  1. The 13 starting pitchers who posted between 3.0 and 3.9 WAR in 2019 had 198 quality starts in 411 outings for 48.2 percent: https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/player/_/view/pitching/season/2019/seasontype/2/table/pitching/sort/WARBR/dir/desc Please double-check my math. As expected a pitcher with a higher WAR generally had a higher percentage of quality starts and a pitcher with a lower WAR generally had a lower percentage of quality starts.
  2. 188 https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/stats/_/id/29966/rick-porcello This year the high-flying Red Sox have 25 quality starts in 97 games: https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/_/type/pitching/name/bos
  3. Last year saw Taijuan Walker, Robbie Ray and Mike Minor as rentals.
  4. Andrew Cashner in 2019! Every deal made during 2019 Trade Deadline season WWW.MLB.COM July 31: Astros acquire RHP Zack Greinke and cash from Diamondbacks for 1B/OF Seth Beer, RHP Corbin Martin, RHP J.B. Bukauskas, and INF/OF Josh Rojas The Astros pulled off a stunning blockbuster at the Trade Deadline buzzer, scoring D-backs ace Zack Greinke for a package of four prospects in Beer
  5. Unless another team makes a more attractive offer.
  6. In two-plus years since the start of the 2019 season Joey Gallo has an OBP of .367 in 886 plate appearances while Bobby Dalbec has a career OBP of .285 in 358 plate appearances. Simply adding context to a comp raised in your post.
  7. It's hard to overlook Joey Gallo's .391 on-base percentage in 363 plate appearances this year versus Bobby Dalbec's .259 OBP in 266 plate appearances.
  8. FWIW earlier this month the Yankees won a series in Seattle, the only series loss the Mariners have suffered in their last nine series.
  9. And the Seattle Mariners have claimed Ryan Weber off waivers. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/mariners-claim-ryan-weber-off-waivers-from-brewers.html#comments
  10. Nor was the Barnes deal a "highway robbery steal" for the Red Sox.
  11. ZiPS, Steamer and FGDC project Matt Barnes to finish this season with 2.1, 2.3 and 2.5 fWAR, respectively: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/matt-barnes/12863/stats?position=P#dashboard That's a good season for a reliever.
  12. Matt Barnes is a good reliever who landed two-year, $18.75 million contract for 2022 and 2023. This year Barnes has already posted 1.7 fWAR, valued at $13.8 million, but FWIW ZiPS projects Barnes with 2022 and 2023 fWAR of 0.6 and 0.6: https://www.fangraphs.com/players/matt-barnes/12863/stats?position=P#zips-3-year-projections This year 0.6 fWAR is worth about $5 million.
  13. Dodger righthander Blake Treinen has a career ERA+ of 138 and a FIP of 3.31. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/treinbl01.shtml Treinen in January signed a two-year, $17.5 million contract with a team option for a third year.
  14. Did anyone suggest that one stat was better than the other? OPS against was just an odd stat to single out. Posters now have contributed a broader variety of stats. Good for us.
  15. Among qualified relievers this year, Matt Barnes ranks 21st in BAA (Batting Average Against): https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2021&month=0&season1=2021&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2021-01-01&enddate=2021-12-31&sort=10,a ... and 31st in ERA-: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=rel&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2021&month=0&season1=2021&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2021-01-01&enddate=2021-12-31&sort=14,a
  16. Jarren Duran hopes to better the MLB debut of fellow outfield prospect Jarred Kelenic, whom the Seattle Mariners reportedly will recall today. Kelenic, who is nearly three years younger than Duran, posted an .096/.185/.193/.378 line and an OPS+ of 8 in 23 games with the Mariners before being sent back down to Tacoma. This year Kelenic has posted a .320/.392/.624/1.016 line in 30 games at Triple A.
  17. Sounds like market value.
  18. BTV is far, far too volatile in its valuations.
  19. Another Matt Barnes comp from today's chat at MLB Trade Rumors: https://www.jotcast.com/chat/chat-with-mlbtrs-steve-adams-7-14-21-11030.html
  20. Good point. One small sample and one even smaller sample.
  21. Daniel McElveny is the second high school shortstop the Red Sox drafted this year out of Chula Vista, California. Bonita Vista High school is located less than three miles from Eastlake High School, which produced Marcelo Mayer, the fourth pick overall.
  22. Mere speculation, but ... Matt Barnes' agent may have approached Red Sox management with Liam Hendriks as a comp. Last offseason Hendriks signed a three-year, $54 million contract. The front office may have countered with Alex Colome, Mark Melancon and Greg Holland, who last offseason, like Barnes this year, were coming off solid campaigns. Colome and Melancon signed one-year, $3 million contracts while Holland signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract. Negotiations may have resulted in a contract in the range of those signed last offseason by Blake Treinen and Trevor May. Or not. Treinen and May signed a two-year, $14 million contracts.
  23. 33-year-old Blake Treinen has posted 7.5 fWAR in 461.1 career innings, 31-year-old Trevor May 5.1 fWAR in 348.2 career innings and 31-year-old Matt Barnes 5.2 fWAR in 374.1 career innings. Draw whatever conclusion ... or no conclusion at all.
