  1. FWIW the 2022 Steamer and Marcel projections for Jarren Duran: Steamer 372 PA, .252/.306/.412/.718, 0.7 fWAR Marcel 256 PA, .236/.294/.386/.680 How much weight would a trade partner give the humble projections for Duran, who turns 26 years old near the end of that season? https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jarren-duran/24617/stats?position=OF https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/duranja01.shtml
  2. Baseball Trade Values may deem a proposed trade a fair deal but that does not mean the package is the best the Cincinnati Reds would receive for two years of a reasonably priced top-tier starter in Luis Castillo. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2021&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=&rost=&age=&filter=&players=&startdate=&enddate= A team will likely need to overpay in a trade for the nearly 29-year-old righthander.
  3. Alex Cora is not among the three finalists for American League Manager of Year: BBWAA Awards finalists 2021 WWW.MLB.COM The finalists for MLB's four major end-of-season awards -- Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, Cy Young Award and Most Valuable Player -- were revealed on Monday. The 2021 award winners for each league will be announced next week, starting at 6 p.m. ET each day: • Monday,
  4. But Wade Miley (and Jonathan Aro) netted the Red Sox Carson Smith (and Roenis Elias).
  5. Anthony DeSclafani? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/desclan01.shtml
  6. Is that a death wish?
  7. For 20 years the Seattle Mariners have been unable to bunch together enough wins in a single season to advance to the postseason. Over that 20-year span Seattle has a better cumulative regular-season record than nine MLB teams (all of whom have bunched together enough wins in one season to make a postseason appearance). FWIW over the past two seasons the Mariners have a better cumulative regular-season record than the Red Sox. Nevertheless the Red Sox advanced to AL Championship Series this year while the Mariners were left again on the October sidelines. The tough-luck* Mariners have become more and more endearing. If Seattle can bunch together wins in one season, the M's may make another postseason appearance during this poster's lifetime. Or not. BTW the Red Sox should be commended for a fine season. * although Pythagorean suggests the Mariners were lucky in 89- and 90-win seasons in 2018 and 2021

  9. https://www.bostonherald.com/2021/10/15/matt-barnes-left-off-red-sox-alcs-roster-but-cbo-chaim-bloom-remains-confident-in-all-stars-future/ https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/red-sox-matt-barnes-suffered-bizarre-thumb-injury-late-season
  10. Any evidence of cheating should be forwarded to the commissioner's office.
  11. Seattle GM Jerry Dipoto likely shopped Kendall Graveman to many teams and took the best offer in the end. The Red Sox may have been in the mix but could not match other offers. Or not. After the trade Kendall Graveman posted 0.3 fWAR in 23 appearances while fellow short-timer Joe Smith, the veteran reliever who went from Houston to Seattle, posted 0.5 fWAR in 23 appearances. The key for the Mariners was four-plus years of 24-year-old infielder Abraham Toro, who posted 0.8 fWAR in 60 games with the M's. The same week Seattle acquired three-plus years of part-time Tampa Bay closer Diego Castillo, whom the Rays were unlikely the trade to a division rival.
  12. Which team likely cheated?
  13. Baseball Trade Values is likely to downgrade Jarred Duran after the now 25-year-old posted a negative 0.5 fWAR in only 33 games. The ZiPS three-year projections have Duran at 0.4, 0.6 and 0.5 fWAR in 540+ plate appearances in each of the next three seasons. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jarren-duran/24617/stats?position=OF#zips-3-year-projections Duran is unlikely to land Frankie Montas or Sean Manaea.
  14. The Seattle Mariners are headed in that direction, going 8-11 (.421) against the Houston Astros this year after going 3-7 (.300) in 2020 and 1-18 (.053) in 2019. The Red Sox contributed a 2-5 (.286) record against the Astros this year before going 2-4 (.333) in the postseason.
  15. 2022 Seattle Mariners. Or not.
  16. The Red Sox needed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals to close with a 29-28 record over their last 57 games (despite a purportedly easier schedule).
  17. Well, Frankie Montas was not as young as Tyler Glasnow (and six other pitchers) were that 2013 season in the South Atlantic League: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/leader.cgi?type=pitch&id=54256e41 https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=montas001fra
  18. Your post was in response to the post: "The last quality starter developed thru the SOX farm was Buchholz."
  19. Frankie Montas was a 20-year-old who had never pitched above Single A when the Red Sox traded the righthander to the White Sox in July 2013. Montas had an ERA near 5.00 over 164 innings in the Boston farm system and did not become a Top 100 prospect until 2015. Perhaps the White Sox deserve credit for the development of Frankie Montas.
  20. FWIW the Seattle Mariners have lost in the first round only once in their 45-year history (after going 90-72 in 1997): https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/SEA/ Of course the Mariners have advanced to the postseason only four times. The 2001 Seattle club lost in the American League Championship Series after going 116-46 in the regular season.
  21. According to MLB Gameday Hansel Robles struck out Yandy Diaz despite throwing all eight pitches outside the strike zone (with no bad ball/strike calls).
  22. From Wednesday's New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/06/sports/baseball/yankees-red-sox.html?campaign_id=190&emc=edit_ufn_20211006&instance_id=42201&nl=updates-from-the-newsroom&regi_id=96643131&segment_id=70844&te=1&user_id=b794be0b84d54ef474f824bb5ba60eb2
  23. Nathan Eovaldi should get votes.
  24. FWIW Alex Cora did not finish among the top four in the AL Manager of Year voting at CBS Sportsline: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2021-mlb-awards-picks-juan-soto-edges-bryce-harper-for-nl-mvp-unanimous-selections-for-al-mvp-cy-young/ Tampa Bay's Kevin Cash finished first and Seattle's Scott Servais second.
