  1. Yeah but that’s an evaluation of talent. Not results. If the Sox had signed McHugh over Diekman, would things be any different today?
  2. By who? Larry kept out of the limelight, so he didn’t have LeBron’s non-basketball career. So it’s really tough to make this claim within a different, much smaller circle. In this respect, Bird was much closer to Tim Duncan than LeBron…
  3. I looked at McHugh’s season. Has he really been that much more effective than Diekman? ERA’s are very close. Diekman’s FIP and K/BB suggest he’s been luckier, but to date I don’t think McHugh would have made much difference. McHugh has been better at stranding inherited runners (24% to 42%) but not all stranded runners are equal…
  4. The Sox acquired RHP James Norwood yesterday. Who got DFAd?
  5. While not as good as McHugh, Diekman is getting a bad rap. He’s pitched in 27 games and allowed 9 ER this season. 6 of those 9 came in 2 games. (Diekman has allowed 5 of 12 IR to score this year.) He walks way too many people to be trusted in high leverage situations, but he’s been much better than Barnes and Robles…
  6. Since May 15; .563 OPSA 2.64 FIP 3.00 ERA 11/1 K/BB Only over 12 IP, but he certainly has been better…
  7. What will it take for them to lose faith in Robles?
  8. They don’t have to be traded. They can be DFAd and released. Barnes and Diekman are the only ones making actual money, and neither has any sort of immovable contract. Heck, Robles signed a minor league deal…
  9. Steph Curry, unlike any other NBA superstar with the exception of Charles Barkley, is actually extremely funny. He’s the executive producer of an extreme mini-golf show on NBC (called Holey Moley), and they give him plenty of camera time in which he does some prepared material, and it’s absolutely hilarious…
  10. Did you just say Larry Bird is more charismatic than LeBron?
  11. But no movie for Hot Pie?
  12. Why?!?? I was real patient with Game of Thrones. How did THAT turn out?!
  13. Liar!! Chris Sale doesn’t have sides!! He’s strictly two dimensional!!
  14. In what has to be an MLB first, there are three closers in MLB named Tanner…
  15. The Masses, and often the media, often judges everything by today and not the bigger picture. Now that’s not the wrong approach; you can only watch what’s on today. (I mean, you would never watch an entire seaso of a TV show that sucked because you thought “But next season will be awesome!!”) And there are obvious drawbacks to future plans, like things just don’t always work out. But some people do keep an open mind and I believe a GM running any team certainly has to have some sort of eye on the future. But there has to be a balance (or ratio) between future and present …
  16. Not sure about this league, but head-to-head fantasy tie breakers usually go for the points within the matchups. (Of course, in many leagues that’s your “record” vs a player.) If that’s the case, I’m up 12-8 on you. But I don’t think it will matter, since I don’t plan on being tied with you all year…
  17. Actually like Arroyo, Refsnyder is an infielder whose most common position throughout his career is actually 2b. But, yes, why platoon the #9 hitter, especially if he is a gifted fielder?
  18. I disagree that the Sox needed a RHH OF to platoon Bradley at all, but using a RHH infielder is just asking for trouble. Bradley is coming off a season in which he barely hit RHP, but the big worry is how he does vs LHP? Seriously? He was brought in for defense. Use him that way and bat him ninth. I don’t revenge anyone ever platooning with Ozzie Smith…
  19. No it wouldn’t. He doesn’t look good in the outfield. That’s why Bradley should just start out there period. Like I said all off-season, he’s hitting 9th anyway…
  20. But Arroyo in RF? Is that Bloom or Cora? Or both? (It feels like Suzuki fallout, as Seiya would have enabled the Arroyo-Bradley platoon, but with Kike flipping from 2b to CF.). And why has no one just said “leave Bradley out there regardless of whose pitching.” Not like they acquired him for his bat…
  21. You’re tied. And I own the tiebreaker. You’re only listed first because it’s alphabetical. If I want to pass you up, all I need to do is put a “C” in front of my team name…
  22. Bloom was talking about a tight-handed outfielder right after the Bradley deal in early December. Suzuki didn’t sign until March…
  23. Myers contract overall was beastly but his AAV was/still is much lower. But I’d think Bloom was right to gamble on Verdugo and Downs/Wong. Although as I’ve sad (far too) many times, I’d have kept Graterol…
  24. Supposedly he’s got some marital issues. So it is possible she hates Detroit…
  25. Hence the Mets’ patience with deGrom…
