Then why deal Arroyo for another hopeful? Looking at Refsnyder’s career, it’s filled with minor league decency and MLB limited opportunities. Any RHH OF you can get for Arroyo is more likely to be a step down than a step up…

Players like Arroyo get dealt all the time, usually in inconsequential deals. I just find it odd/unrealistic he has become the “go to” trade piece for filling actual needs…

Danish will get demoted. Teams will option a player before any trade/DFA as this limit doesn’t affect 40 man rosters and every team has at least one pitcher with options…

I think 1. Any team in need of INF help will find other, better options and 2. The Sox do still need a utility INF, even if they can keep him out of the OF…

You can only trade with teams when they’re selling. Unless you plan to blow them away, why would even the tankingest team deal now when there may be better offers on the table later?

The -0.5 this year might not be the best metric when talking about his signing. He did have a -0.1 fWAR in 2021 (and a 0.4bWAR). But that was also his only negative WAR in his career…

I’ve always thought Diekman was good. And his long career is proof others have agreed. But his career long battles with walks is the one thing that makes him prone to off years and reckless outings…

Crawford at least has that Seattle start, but I’d prefer him in a smaller bullpen role. But I do agree with them there is MLB talent; it’s just borderline talent that is best used properly. Winckowski and Seabold do both deserve a look. But if you’re right about Seabold, it does kill off any firesale talk for now…

I was ready to move on from Perez. He had his ups and downs. The McHugh/Diekman debate is looking like what Bellhorn calls Recency Effect. Over the last 3-4 years, not much difference statistically between the two. But McHugh was stellar last year. Now there are two differences. 1. McHughdid spent a fair amount of his time as a starter, which does influence his numbers negatively. And 2. McHugh has shown himself to be more injury prone. Do these offset?

If 26yo Connor Seabold and 24yo Josh Winckowski -neither of whom have anything left to prove in AAA - are not ready, when will they be? In their early 30s?

To me his most perplexing move so far has been the Houck/Whitlock Bullpen rotation shuffle. I don’t get why both earmarked relievers got bounced around so much and never had their slots backfilled once we all learned Sale was going to be out. I mean, why not just get another starter?
