Why not Ceddane Rafaela? He has a lot going on that other trans will like, and his defensive versatility and skills do give him a very high floor. I keep seeing him forecast as a “utility player”, but he’s a top 100 talent that will interest any team. And he’s close to MLB and requires a 40 man roster spot in 3 months. I like the prospect, but you will never acquire any decent pitching via trade if you refuse to make any of your good prospects available. Even taking out the top 5 is probably too many. How many players with careers longer than 3 years do you think there really are in the Sox system (or any system) right now?

At some point on there, I believe he also traded Josh Reddick for Andy Bailey. The move had very little impact, as Bailey got hurt a lot, but it was part of his very active off-season…

“Winning the off-season” is how you facetiously describe a team that spent ton of cash on big name free agents and/or made high profile trades and still only got marginally better. “Well at least they won the off-season.” Are the Globe pundits suggesting sarcasm as an off-season plan now?

No idea if San Diego is interested, but they do have two $300mill contracts right now and the acquisition of Juan Soto figures to add another mega contract that dwarves the deals for Machado and Tatis…

Is there any indication Miami is willing to dilute the return by attacking players they signed less than 12 months ago? It is possible they recognize they have a rare surplus of starting pitching and want to convert it to talent in other areas…

Pham is a free agent and is probably gone. He has a team option but not one that should be exercised. The Sox already have two outfielders in the gold for next season. I’m hoping they can fill out the OF with Brandon Nimmo. Of course Bloom might go and trade Verdugo just like he did Renffoe and Benintendi before him…

Bello’s stuff isn’t likely to be the biggest factor in determining his place in the rotation; it’s his IP limit. Counting two minor league levels, he’d thrown about 150 IP this year, which is already 30 IP more than his previous career high. He’s not going to be penciled in for 180 IP next year…

Have you seen the rotation Tampa is taking to the postseason? Or that Baltimore has ridden to the best second half record in MLB? Or that St. Louis is using to take the NL Central?

Not true. We do need SP, but if the pen limits the opposition to 5-6 innings per game for scoring, it can work out well. Of course you need to be 7-8 pitchers deep in the pen and maybe more to pull that off…

Agreed that a killer bullpen is more important than an ace. More pitchers look like aces when you only need 5-6 IP from them…
