  1. I think barring injury, we can safely assume Toronto (Bichette) and Minnesota (Correa) will not be acquiring a shortstop unless said shortstop is willing to move to 2b. LAD might, assuming Turner is willing to move again. But they won’t be replacing a healthy Turner and sending him to the bench…
  2. I wouldn’t guarantee either is dealt. The hottest deadline commodity is always relief pitching. Eovaldi as a starter should have a market, but the Sox also might not get enough of an offer and might value the exclusive negotiation rights they get by keeping him. Bogaerts requires a specific case to be dealt - a contending team that needs a shortstop. Especially given his preference to not change positions. There aren’t really any teams that fit that bill except maybe the Yankees. And that deal is a little tough to foresee happening. But certainly injuries can happen sound the league…
  3. Barring a massive turnaround, does it do any good to hold on to Bogaerts? He reportedly plans to opt out and this team is going nowhere unless some bats wake up very, very quickly…
  4. Who said anything about Devers? Ever? Bogaerts has left himself in a rough spot. His opt out was poorly timed and the Sox got proactive in replacing him. That took away any leverage his agent had. And it doesn’t appear there has been much willingness to negotiate; no one knows what it would take to keep him…
  5. Because the Sox can’t hit!!
  6. While I totally agree, it still isn’t an excuse for the status quo…
  7. Because the lack of offense is costing than more games. The house is burning down and your trying to douse the burning drapes. Is it an issue? Yes. Is it their biggest one? Not by a long shot. And the solution is right there assuming Cora ever wakes up and tries it. Houck is not a good starter. And using him to piggyback Hill (who actually is a good starter is another waste. The 2 or 3 games the Sox might have won with a good closer are nothing compared to the number of games the pitching has held the other team to 3 runs or less and the offense still couldn’t do anything about it. I mean, ghost runners are a run basically handed over to the offense. You don’t even need a hit to drive one in. But the Sox have only driven in 3 of 7. The Sox bizarre defensive play in late innings just makes it worse. Robles should have 0 blown saves and the defense has given him two…
  8. The Sox scored 5 runs in 28 innings. Twice the White Sox scored 3 runs in the third inning and never looked back. How is a lack of a closer the issue there? Also they do win the extra inning game and Robles closes it out if the Sox play proper defense and guard the line…
  9. The Sox have allowed all 7 ghost runners to score, but have only driven in 3 of 7. The ghost runner is essentially a gimme. Hit a grounder to the right side and a flyball. It doesn't even require a hit. The RP can actually do his job well and let one score. But somehow the Sox just cannot get the ghost runner home. Also worth noting, one of the three they have driven him came after giving up 6 runs in the top of the inning when the Angels might not have been so concerned with him...
  10. What did the sun ever do to you?
  11. And the thing is, these “back in the day” comparisons always involve the elite arms from that time. Bob Gibson didn’t do this. Nolan Ryan did that. The Sox don’t have Gibson or Ryan. The Sox don’t even have Jim Lonborg. They have Nate Eovaldi. And the only way Eovaldi becomes the next Lonborg is if he takes up skiing…
  12. As long as the Sox don’t replace Fatse with Jarrod Saltalamacchia…
  13. But for every Jim Lonborg, how many Mark Fidrych’s were there?
  14. But will it be 60-70 all year? With no real ST, we had to expect those shorter outings..,
  15. So the closest thing he has to a qualification is an anagram?
  16. Taking starting pitchers out before they get hammered is hardly new; it’s been done for decades. That’s what pitch counts were for…
  17. It does take a lot of talent to shutdown this offense the way Fatse has…
  18. JBJ is also on a very short list of Sox players actually hitting. WTF Cora?
  19. Right. And how many of those players have Scott “Let me take you to free agency” Boras as their agent? Again, no counteroffer from Bogaerts? Don’t feed me the “he was too insulted” ********. Because chances are very good he wasn’t even there and because saying “no” without a counter is an old and extremely well-known Boras tactic. But if your argument is these guys are intentionally tanking because they are not being overpaid enough - let them all f***ing walk. Seriously. I can understand concern over contract. But tanking because of someone else’s contract? That shouldn’t be condoned…
  20. That 2 run outburst in the sixth inning snapped a string of 42 consecutive innings in which the Sox failed to score multiple runs…
  21. Isn’t that exactly what having a dedicated closer does? That’s actually literally why the role was created. In postgame press conferences, when asked why a certain reliever was used, rather than tap dance around whatever, managers got to say “because he’s the closer.”
  22. No. We never heard that expressed here…
  23. Stupid play by Garcia. Good for Vazquez for taking advantage
