  1. Probably. And that’s a reduction in pay for JD (in terms of AAV)…
  2. Devers and Bogaerts are the foundation. Start there and build up. The Sox are only committed for $88 mill next year (not counting Bogaerts) before arbitration raises and can fill holes multiple ways…
  3. I think JD gets one, too. If he accepts, it’s a one year deal. If he declines, it’s a draft pick
  4. Possible but risky…
  5. I think Bogaerts payday falls between Story (6/140) and Semien (7/175). So … I’m sticking with 6/150..
  6. Bogaerts is my SS I think with the cash coming off the books, re-signing Bogaerts and extending Devers makes sense. I’m ok with McGuire doing the bulk of the catching as he is a very good defensive catcher
  7. Lineup wise, I’m thinking C: McGuire/Wong 1b: Hosmer 2b: Story 3b: Devers LF: ? CF: Nimmo RF: Verdugo DH: JD if he accepts a QO. Casas/Dalbec if he doesn’t. BN: Arroyo, Pham (plus Wong and Dalbec mentioned above) I’d love Ramon Laureano in RF (with Verdugo returning to LF), but I don’t know what Oakland wants and I think Dave Forst finally started blocking my texts.
  8. 1. Judge is unlikely to be available. But he hasn’t signed anything yet. 2. Judge turned down 7 years $213 mill from NYY. So he clearly wants more 3. Judge has topped 112 games twice in 6 years. Granted he should make it a third next week. (2020 was only 60 games so he obviously couldn’t play in 112, but he only did play in 28 so I’m counting it against him.) 4. Judge is 30 and had issues staying on the field in his 20s. He clearly wants to be paid until age 37, and is unlikely to be healthier than he has been. I get the appeal, but these long term mega deals that pay players in their 30s for what they did in their 20s are how teams get in the type of mess the Sox are currently in. If X takes $150mill for 6, he’s the far better option… And get Brandon Nimmo for CF. He fills a huge need…
  9. Dead or not, I take Howser over Franchy at 1b…
  10. So… you’re not human…
  11. Isn’t some of this on Cora? The guy was using Vazquez as a 2b man long before Bloom arrived…
  12. Calling someone’s point by point rebuttal isn’t “agreeing to disagree”…
  13. From the guy who gets cranky when someone criticizes his opinion…
  14. 24th wild card at the latest…
  15. From what I understand, Kike is starting a rehab stint soon. So a Duran/Franchy Death Match is probably not going to happen…
  16. I’m actually wondering why not try Franchy in CF. He has 344 MLB innings spread out over a few seasons, so the metrics are useless. But unlike Duran, he can track a flyball and his offense is probably better. He was a flop at 1b, but he might be ok in CF…
  17. He has a really good arm, too. I think he has MLB talent, and if players like Kevin Newman, Geraldo Perdormo and Nicky Lopez are MLB starters, he can at least attain that level. He’s probably best used in a utility role, however…
  18. Duran probably wouldn’t be playing if they had other options. Or if they kept JBJ…
  19. Nope. Bogaerts. I’m all on board with him although I am not sure the team is. If the Sox signed Correa or Turner, if be excited as both are talented players. But part of me would miss X…
  20. He’s just angry because the Yankees are no longer the best team in New York…
  21. I’m not wild about McCann, but he’s an option for unloading Barnes. The Speier article talked about Bloom”s deadline pursuit of Sean Murphy, which I’m all for. BTV gives Murphy more trade value than Marcelo Mayer, so while no names were mentioned, I’m guessing talks got pricey. However maybe Arizona’s Carson Kelly is available as he becomes more expensive. The DBacks have shown willingness to use Daulton Varsho at catcher. Another who might get too pricey is Milwaukee’s Omar Navraez. He’s very good. If Story stays at 2b and the Sox cannot retain Bogaerts, that does make for a huge infield hole. Free agency will have Trea Turner and possibly Carlos Correa. Internally I think Jeter Downs or Christian Arroyo are the top options. Bad and therefore available contracts (I’m trying to unload Barnes) would be Nick Ahmed and Paul DeJong. Ahmed for Barnes would be an interesting swap as they were teammates at UConn. But as Ahmed seems to be hurt all the time, I’d prefer DeJong…
  22. They brought in JBJ for his glove, not to sit. So then we’re back to Refsnyder, who was actually pretty good as an OF bat
  23. Possible the OF bat was needed because they assumed Kike in the infield? They didn’t bring in JBJ to be a bench player, and they already had Verdugo. So once the got Story, Kike became that de facto outfield bat…
  24. So you’re saying Mookie was going to be impossible to sign?
  25. Mookie did say that 3 years later. But then he didn’t even take the Dodgers’ offer until two months worth of games had been cancelled. The Sox offered Mookie $300mill for 10 years. Same ASV. Two less years. At the very least, id call that a solid effort for Dombrowski to retain him. And when he couldn’t, Dombrowski instead signed Bogaerts to a great contract and Sale to a disastrous one. Basically spending the cash earmarked for Mookie…
