  1. True. Of course even in my scenario, I didn’t portray him as smart…
  2. Hey when I’m the guy defending the Yankees, there is absolutely reasonable doubt. I’m fine accusing them of starting the Crimean War, kidnapping the Lindbergh baby and getting Arrested Development cancelled. And I’ll do it all without proof…
  3. Part of me thinks it’s just a story Cohen’s camp out out there because they just don’t want to pay for Judge but don’t want to look cheap. I mean, the only other option is he’s colluding with the Yankees but too stupid to hide it. Why would the Mets brazenly admit this to the press, unless it’s a cover for something they think makes them look worse?
  4. So reportedly Verlander is looking for a contract similar to Max Scherzer’s 3 year $130mill deal with the Mets? At forty years old! Would it be legal for a team to offer him an incentive-laden contract? Something like a league minimum base salary plus $1.5million per start? The MLBPA only allows for incentives to be participation-based, which this is. If Verlander makes all 33 starts, he would earn $50mlion. He wouldn’t drop under $40mill unless he missed 7 or more starts. And the team would be protected somewhat in the event of injury. Would this be legal? Would any team do this? Would Verlander hypothetically go for it?
  5. Sale wasn’t much in the last half of 2019. The Sox did drop 24 games in 2019 and ran into payroll issues that “top prospects” Houck and Dalbec were not able to alleviate. The Cliff was all about the lack of prospects coming up being able to fill in while the high-priced veterans declined. Did that happen or not?
  6. And allowed Kimbrel to be credited with a save in a game that was clearly saved by Benintendi….
  7. I’d argue there was a cliff. And the Sox plummeted over the edge in 2020…
  8. Yes I can name those pitchers, too. So are you arguing that the Phillies bullpen, 23rd in MLB in ERA last year was good? Right after saying the 2021 Red Sox Diekman-free bullpen, which was 13th in ERA, was bad?
  9. It could be enormous. Or nothing. It could be Cohen admitting to collusion with the Yankees. Or it could be him trying to give an excuse to his fans about why he isn’t dropping $400mill on Jusge…
  10. If you look at the 2021 Red Sox and the 2022 Phillies, what do these teams tell you about the importance of a bullpen?
  11. And now the alleged strategy for the New York Yankees and Mets - COLLUSION! Apparently Andy Martino has found the Mets (primarily so far) and Yankees seem to have the exact same type of agreement on free agents that MLB has been sued for three times already. It does seem more the Mets, but then Asian those are the only people Martino has talked to. But this could get very, very ugly…
  12. I don’t think whether or not it surprised them matters and I don’t think the roster was as full of holes as many claim. One issue fans struggle to acknowledge is that the gap between the best and worst MLB teams is significantly closer than the equivalent gap in other sports. And that’s why teams can turn around fast and why trans can put together surprisingly stellar seasons despite being “full of holes”…
  13. A bit misleading since December to mid-February was a league-wide transaction-free lockout…
  14. Why would the Sox want to be under at the beginning of the season? Especially after making the LCS in 2021? The window was open then. The big issue to me was not replacing Sale once his injury was known. Even if replacing him meant adding a reliever to backfill for Houck/Whitlock…
  15. I don’t mind staying over the threshold. They were trying to get into the playoffs. Not like they knew Eovaldi was going to collapse and only make two more starts after the deadline. They traded a catcher, managed to replace him with a guy who actually hit much better, got a 1b acquired a bunch of prospects, and dumped Diekman Sure they needed a hot streak to get in, but that’s hardly unheard of. And once in, anything can happen. Philly barely eked into the postseason and then ride that wave to the World Series. They did need at least one arm, probably more. But I don’t mind that they at least tried rather than playing out the string…
  16. With the changes we’re seeing in the game, such as no shift, it would not surprise me if Bogaerts want their first choice at shortstop. Especially if he is still adamant about not changing positions (which he might not still be). I always assumed Story was Plan B after Suzuki didn’t happen. That may or not not be the case, and we’ll probably never know…
  17. Is that really true to the Bloom Era? There have always been Sox connections to players that aren’t elsewhere, going back to Lou Gorman to Duquette to Epstein to Cherington and even with Dombrowski. It might be a little worse now, but don’t you sort of expect that when the team has no farm and has been in the process of trying to get some control wrapped around a $230mill payroll. I mean, if you have no budget and no farm, Joe do you add players?
  18. That’s actually the problem with the Ruld 5 draft. Players lose a year of development. Teams lose a year of control. In most cases, who wins?
  19. The Marlins DFAd longtime Notin man-crush Eleiser Hernandez. But I think at this point even I might not go above an MiLB contract for him…
  20. If they want to make a pick at all. The Garrett Whitlock picks are a definite rarity…
  21. That’s what Ronaldo Hernandez is for!!
  22. If you’re going to hold being 26 against Ward, how old is Ort again?
  23. And I am openly criticizing Bloom for protecting Ort (especially Ort) and Chang while leaving Ward and Wallace exposed…
  24. No spots open. Sox cannot make a Rule 5 selection without an open 40 man roster spot..
  25. So Bloom is not as high on Jacob Wallace as I am, or feels he won’t get selected. But here’s the thing - he will…
