  1. Like how Bobby Bonilla is not part of the Mets AAV. But the whole point that they were intentionally losing the AAV is ridiculous. They still had to pay that lower yet still exorbitant amount for longer, meaning it has the chance to impact the luxury tax in more seasons. So now if any deal can impact the luxury tax, it would get mixed? If the Sox replace Bogaerts with a minimum wage shortstop, they are clearly trying to avoid the luxury tax. So will that get vetoed too?
  2. You’re still not getting it. This is not Bloom deciding to run the team as cheaply as possible. This is Henry and/or Werner giving Bloom marching orders to run the team as cheaply as possible. And it may have started back in 2019 when Dombrowski wasn’t allowed to extend Betts. If they fire/demote Bloom, do you think the next guy gets an open checkbook? Do you think Henry is eating these stores and wondering why this is happening?
  3. So you still think payroll isn’t a factor for this team? No one worries about it. But those who have repeatedly acknowledged it are clearly closest to being in the know…
  4. And the thing is, a lot of this negative PR goes away if they just extend Devers…
  5. If the Sox even said “we are not sure Bogaerts has a future here” or “we want better defense at shortstop”, it would have been understandable. Agree with them or not, at least it looks like it’s about baseball…
  6. If the Sox are going to stick to being under the limit, Correa won’t work. They need to be looking at players like Andrus, Kiermaier, Brian Anderson, Belt, Narvaez. They might need to move Verdugo for a pitcher. Or maybe sign Fulmer or Yarbrough and trade Houck…
  7. At any point will they be worried about his pitching?
  8. Correa might have crazy demands, but then that would make this the second year in a row teams have just ignored him on the market. And now that he’s seeing the offers Turner and Bogaerts got after seeing what Seager got last year. Think at any point he starts taking it personally?
  9. Numero uno is probably Dustin Pedroia with 8 years $110mill. Looks like dirt but I also recall people insisting he retire early and surrender his salary rather than sit out injured…
  10. And they were all pretty bad after signing. The best of that bunch might have been JD, and then probably Price. Sale has two years left, which is actually enough time to catch up ( and is more of a statement about Price). And Story is TBD…
  11. The Dodgers have 23yo Miguel Vargas at 3b, he of the .915 OPS and 32 HRs in the PCL last year. Think he just gets one season to prove himself?
  12. Also, Soto will be able to out-pizza the Hut!
  13. We got a leadoff hitter and a closer. We should be better at the beginning of games and the end as well. Time to pitch up the middle!
  14. I’m not sold on needing a big RHH bat. A big bat, yes. But with the overwhelming majority of pitchers being right-handed, the loss of the shift, and the elimination of the LOOGY, I’m fine with a big left-handed bat as well…
  15. The RHH options for DH are all players like Duvall, Mancini, Gary Sanchez, JD, Sano, Wil Myers. The LHH options are better - Brantley, Conforto (if he can be the pre-2021 Conforto), Dom Smith and the criminally underrated Brandon Belt.
  16. I’m with you James Dansby Swanson. Correa? I’d be surprised. I expect one of Story, Hernandez or Andrus at SS this year…
  17. Yes. It’s already over. Cancel the games! Forget the season!! Let NESN show reruns of “The Andy Griffith Show” and old Match Games from the ‘70s. No point in playing baseball this year…
  18. It also be helped that we didn’t give up on the season on December 9th…
  19. Or Soto in two years…
  20. I think Deja Doh or whatever…
  21. I mean if you want to have fun speculating - what will Juan Soto’s next deal look like? I’m thinking 14/$532mill
  22. I was thinking 12/$360.
  23. I don’t think he could have dumped JD Martinez so easily last off-season. $21mill was still a big AAV back then and teams rarely go that high for a DH because it’s not the toughest position to fill. I wanted Schwarber back. But if - and I don’t really know this - the goal was to improve the defense, Schwarber is not a good outfielder, we saw he’s really not a good 1b (but credit him for the effort at a new position), and Martinez wasn’t going anywhere unless he chose to. Which he didn’t…
  24. Maybe the new goal is “frolicking in Scrooge McDuck-style”…
