  1. The Sox didn’t trade 12 years of Betts. They traded 1 year of Betts and 3 of Price (at a 50% discount). Those 12 years came along later. When the Sox acquired Sale, they traded for 3 years (assuming options). Not the six they’ve had him. And not the 8 (or 9 if his option vests) that will comprise his Sox tenure…
  2. How does 2020 go with Betts? The Sox won 24 games. Throw Mookie’s 3.6 bWAR into the mix and subtract Verdugo’s 1.2 bWAR, and you’re looking at “improving” from 24-36 to 26-34 or 27-33. Then Betts leaves to be a free agent. THAT is the alternative path…
  3. The pundits at the time expected the Sox to land May, Lux and Verdugo. That’s insanely unrealistic for one year of any player…
  4. I would strongly suspect Bloom aired about arms. But LA was reluctant to deal them for one year of Betts plus Price at cost. Isn’t that why Minnesota got involved in the first place?
  5. If the Sox had the option of keeping Betts, I’d be more inclined to agree. But once negotiations failed, money was instead spent on Bogaerts and Sale, and ownership decreed getting under the tax limit, the idea of keeping Betts completely vanished. Given the limited offers, the Sox chose the best option of the two.
  6. Exactly. No Connor Wong. And I still say they should have kept Graterol…
  7. Walk up song suggestions?
  8. But that doesn’t mean Wong was “highly regarded” as opposed to “the best they could get”…
  9. Hey I’m not trying one who said Wong was so highly regarded they dealt a Hall of Famer to get him. That position might be more supported if Wong was actually in the first (and much better) version of that trade…
  10. It’s doubtful the Sox will continue the most recent pace of both their ineptitude against the AL East nor dominance of everyone else. Certainly if they continue only one pace, the ineptitude one is a lot easier…
  11. . So you’re saying the entire point was to get Wong? And not that Wong just happened to be determined to be acceptable in the final iteration of a trade that was essentially a salary dump?
  12. I know. Shocking news…
  13. Why? Did they take Sale bike riding and break Story’s finger?
  14. And maybe a Tampa uniform?
  15. Can I just write “Ort” on 39 slips of paper?
  16. Actually it turns out Andre the Robot was really a giant Bigfoot…
  17. Is Dalbec really all that much of a safety net?
  18. I think it officially kills something that had a minimal chance. Like when Steve Austin killed the last Bigfoot..
  19. And Bloom must have serious faith in former Tampa draftee Mills since he traded a non-40 man player to get him. Granted, he only had to DFA Hosmer to squeeze him onto the roster…
  20. The Sox also have a freebie add to the 40 man roster once Story goes on the 60 day IL. Candidates include Tapia, Allen, Crook, Diaz and Alfaro. At least that’s who I think the candidates are…
  21. And if German is truly not worthy of a 40 man roster spot, it’s safe to assume that he was not worthy of one in December when he was protected over Thad Ward…
  22. On BTV, Dalbec has as much value as German and Duran has significantly more. While the Sox do need an entire 40 man roster, it still needs to be pitcher-heavy, especially early on. Even you have called Duran DFA material. If he is not worthy of a 40 man spot, does it matter who replaces him as long as that player is worthy?
  23. Yoshida?
  24. But also only 4IP. At some point, the untried younger pitchers with track records of minor league success should be considered over players with track records full major league question marks like Dalbec or Duran…
  25. If the Sox did sign him, would they DFA Mata?
