On Song
1. Song was on the Military List in Boston.
2. The Military List does not exclude players from being taken in the Rule 5 draft. It’s not for minor league protection but was created when MLB players went to war, like Ted Williams and Bob Feller.
3. When Song comes back, his clock starts ticking for the Rule 5 draft. Per MLB rules, Song should be permitted 15 days in the minors for conditioning.
4. Once that is completed, he cannot be demoted until after he has spent 162 on the Phillies’ active roster.
5. If Song goes on the IL, all games he misses do not count towards his 162.
6. If Song is still on the Military List at next year’s Rule 5 draft, he can be selected again.
7. If Boston selects him next year, the situation gets beyond confusing…
