  1. He is expected to opt out, but he is the ultimate Buyer Beware free agent pitcher whose injury history is as long as all of the other MLB pitchers combined…
  2. His eye test is largely limited to checking RBI totals and regurgitating Tony Massaroti talking points
  3. Way to defend your point about the limitless spending of Padres’ ownership! Also you should probably prepare to be disappointed if that’s your Sox wish list. Devers and Bogaerts are the most likely, but I’m not even sure how likely they are…
  4. No they don’t. No owner does…
  5. They do have pitching and I suspect they will be paring some salary. Snell is my hopeful from them, but maybe they deal Darvish. They just extended Musgrove so I assume he is their keeper. They also might want to try to keep Cleavinger and have arb cases pending for Josh Hader and (I think) Jake Cronenworth. Plus holes at 1b, LF and CF . And they traded best prospects who play those positions…
  6. I don’t think MLB owners casually throw strong $16mill as casually as fans do…
  7. They’llbe much more willing to trade Snell once they come to San agreement with Soto, long term or not. Sox can then extend him on their own terms…
  8. Like most of America, I’m hoping for a Seattle-Milwaukee World Series. Fun historical series, as Seattle was the original home for the Brewers, then called the Pilots
  9. Then get on the Blake Snell Train!! WOOT WOOT!! Leaving the station this December and heading for a Fenway near you !
  10. I imagine Flexen is on the radar, especially if Seattle maintains his surplus value of $1mill in a trade for him. Jeter Downs?
  11. Or think of Lackey and Lester and some chicken!
  12. So apparently the grass is alway greener. If people think Sale is unreliable, not sure Strasburg figures to be an adequate replacement. Strasburg still has 4 years $140mill left on his deal, which is basically Sales’s entire contract jammed into one fewer year. Not to mention, as much as I rip Sale for only throwing 48 IP in the last 3 seasons, Strasburg had only thrown THIRTY!! I am not sure I can hard pass hard enough on Strasburg. No Strasburg. Not even at gunpoint…
  13. MVP said he isn’t. That works for me. Actually if his arm situation is real, he probably isn’t a good idea at SS. If he could have it, that would be great. Much easier to find a 2b than a good SS…
  14. There is a greater chance of the planet Mars crashing into the Earth in downtown Toledo and then bouncing off and continuing its course into deep space than there is of the White Sox not picking up Tim Anderson’s $12.5 mill option.
  15. I left them out with a mention, but they are (with BTV surplus values): Lopez 35.2 Rogers 40.2 Cabrera 9.1 Luzardo 22.1 Sanchez 8.8 Garrett 15.9
  16. One bat I hope the Sox can look into for DH/OF is Miami’s Garrett Cooper. The guy is a pure hitter…
  17. I don’t think the Sox have any plans to platoon Verdugo. And they shouldn’t…
  18. SS - While I like Bogaerts, I don’t think he’s coming back, and I also think that might be the right long term move. The Sox could try for a big name free agent like Correa, Cora’s fellow Puerto Rican countryman, and hope he is amenable to an eventual position change. They also might take on a lesser free agent like Jean Segura. Or trade for a contract another team wants to move, with the obvious candidates being Ha-Seong Kim of San Diego (his 2 years $15mill left isn’t that cumbersome, but the Padres have two $300 mill contracts plus just took on Juan Soto plus that team has shortstops playing nearly every position already so they really don’t need him), Paul DeJong (1 yr $9.2mill with 2 options, good fielder, bad hitter but does have good Fenway power), and Nick Ahmed (1yr $10.4mill, defensive wizard and Matt Barnes former college teammate, but far, far too injury-prone lately).
  19. Re-signing Wacha is a good idea. As for pitchers to trade for, I suspect the following will be available (besides the five from Miami): Blake Snell Aaron Civale John Means Jack Flaherty Brad Keller Brandon Woodruff Antonio Senzatela Dakota Hudson Probably a score of others..
  20. I don’t think the free agent market (which already lost Charlie Morton) is going to provide that without taking on some contract that will become the next Chris Sale deadweight much earlier than expected…
  21. If you asked 26 players whether or not clubhouse chemistry matters, you’d probably get over 20 different answers, and the only repeated one would be “what are you talking about?” (I suppose “who let you in here?” would also be very common.) Trying to simplify the dynamics of the clubhouse is pointless. The players are all humans and all react in their own way each stimulus. The whole notion of this idyllic Kumbaya Environment is very often some columnist that didn’t talk to players just extrapolating some minute situation into pretending it’s the entire atmosphere. I’m not even convinced you have 26 happy players on winning teams. Why? Because players are human…
  22. Pivetta threw 175 IP this year, which is a career high, with his previous being 164 IP back in 2018. Not uncommon for pitchers to wear down over a long season…
  23. Nimmo!!! And not Gallo!!
  24. Kike’s one year contract is the perfect stop for Rafaela…
  25. Hard disagree. Unless you think Eovaldi has another 2021 season left in him…
