  1. I think Hosmer is off the table with Miami. I don’t know who is on his NTC, but we know Washington was, and his reason for including them was not wanting to go to a rebuilding organization. It seems pretty likely to me Miami would also be on that list for the same reason. Because like Oakland and Pittsburgh (Both of whom I would bet are also on Hosmer’s NTC.), Miami does seem to be in a constant state of rebuilding…
  2. I don’t think Vazquez is fine and washed up, either. I’ve said all along I expect them to re-sign Bogaerts, but really it will come down to what his demands are. It’s easy to see him (or more accurately, his agent,) pricing himself out of the Sox range. Or, more likely, expecting too many years…
  3. You can only sign the ones willing to sign…
  4. I think all this extension talk on Devers has completely de-emphasized that he does in fact already have a contract for 2023…
  5. Aka The Notin Strategy. Use it. It will catch on…
  6. The Mariners became the third team to win a postseason game in which they trailed by seven runs. The last team to do it? The 2008 Red Sox…
  7. If you’re trading Mayer for pitching, BTV values roughly equal to 2 years of Shane Bieber. Of course, they also value him equally to former abloom trade target Sean Murphy. I’m guessing abloom values amateur more than Murphy, which is why the Sox have Mayer and not Mutphy. But would you deal Mayer for two years of Bieber?
  8. Mayer, Bazardo and Winckowski for Pablo Lopez and Jesus Luzardo. BTV likes it. Sox fans should. Marlins fans won’t, but we shouldn’t let either of them hold this up. Marlins FO? I’m guessing not in favor, at least from a baseball viewpoint…
  9. Not going to get a player - at least not one worthwhile - with 4 plus years of control left. Why would any team trade a ore-arb star player for an A ball shortstop?
  10. And the repeated resets and occasional tight controls. Remember when Cherington had to trade Marco Scutaro just to afford Cody Ross? Those are not Yankee/Dodger spending habits…
  11. The people who believe JH has spending limits (albeit high ones) do have plenty of history to back it up…
  12. The Yankees don’t have windows…
  13. He also may not be tradable in 2-3 years. If the Sox sign Bogaerts (or Correa or Turner), they should plan on keeping him for the life of the deal. They also need pitching now, and their best prospect plays the same position (aka “is blocked”) and could certainly get a very good pitcher in return…
  14. If the Sox extend Bogaerts, should they trade Marcelo Mayer?
  15. The albatross is irrelevant until it shows up. And if Judge becomes an albatross by 2026, it will be a factor. Especially if Cole does, too…
  16. Not really. A strawman is an intentional misrepresentation that is easier to argue against than reality. Like arguing against the Sox signing Hernandez because “he shouldn’t have been top priority”…
  17. How can anyone determine if the Sox will be competitive in 2023 already? Did anyone look at the last place 2012 team and predict a World Series title the following season? Or the last place 2015 team and think that this team is ready for the AL East pennant? And who looked at the end of the 2020 season - one that featured one of the worst Sox teams on the past half-century - and predicted an ALCS in 2021? A lot can change quickly in MLB. Give it a chance..
  18. Twice!! Fire him! Then re-hire him! And then fire him again!!!
  19. No they’re not. Just like anyone who wanted to reset, they had no influence whatsoever. If they did, the Sox fire sale would have happened in April when the white flags were flapping in their full glory…
  20. It’s not so much about what we prefer BBS what they will actually do. The Sox have largely treated the DH as its own position and not as a place to rest a regular, which is a strategy I prefer. Why not just get a hitter? Now I am hoping Soxprospects.com is wrong that Eric Hosmer is earmarked for the role. He just isn’t the level of hitter I like to see in a role that requires nothing but hitting. On the free agent market, the guy who appeals to me the most is Brantley. But I have my doubts on even him as he goes through his late 30s. I do like the idea of trading for Garrett Cooper, assuming he can be had…
  21. Based on what? I mean, besides the geriatric options?
  22. All of them were there in 2022. The problem was in 2022, Eovaldi couldn’t repeat his Cy Young caliber season, Barnes couldn’t return to his All Star form, there was no starter depth at the beginning of the season, and the bullpen overall collapsed with the exception of Schreiber. Houck and Whitlock are fine in the bullpen, but both were starters at some point and just not as good. Plus no one was able to backfill them in the bullpen. And everyone got hurt…
  23. Per MLBTR, Bogaerts is the Sox top priority…
  24. If the Sox offer Eovaldi a QO and he comes back, that makes sense to me. But a long term deal (3 years or more on this case) is probably a bad idea…
  25. Those were the true Wacha. The previous 21 starts were the outlier. The real reason was probably simple fatigue from a long season. Happens to tons of pitchers…
