  1. With Sale - and I do think 2023 rests heavily on him - there are reasons to be hopeful and reasons to worry. I’m hopeful because of the fact all of his injuries last year were to body parts that were not his pitching elbow and shoulder. I worry because he still seems to get injured, and lately it’s been while doing mundane activities. I mean, who breaks a rib while pitching? And not even pitching against a hitter - just throwing? And riding a bicycle? What’s next? What can he do safely? Will he hyperextend a knee while sneezing? Pull an abdominal muscle while washing his face? Will he try to make tuna fish on toast, and end up in the Burn Unit with mayonnaise in his hair? Yes this is what I worry about…
  2. I am less upset about losing Xander than Betts and potentially Devers. His bat played, but I just didn’t like him much as a shortstop. And I don’t know how he felt about changing positions…
  3. Hey if we can assume deGrom, Eovaldi and Heaney are healthy, why not Paxton? Are you a TJ Shamer?
  4. So might a rotation of Sale, Paxton, Kluber, Whitlock, and Pivetta. But yet question marks still remain…
  5. It seems like if you want to lock a player up to one of those teams-friendly deals, you need to sign him after 2-3 years at the latest. That’s what Tampa and Atlanta keep doing. By the time players reach arbitration, it’s too late. The Sox keep waiting until a player has 4-5 years of service time, and the closest thing to an extension was getting Bogaerts for 3 years. Really what Bloom should have done was extend Devers right after trading Betts (with a deal that didn’t start until 2021 to allow the precious reset). That’s would have gotten him locked up and at least allowed for some positive PR after the massive negative PR move of trading Betts…
  6. Platoon with who? Andrus isn’ta target due to his bat. And the only other RHH in the infield is Story…
  7. It’s blatant sarcasm…
  8. Again, Ramon Laureano. (Wasn’t your suggestion all along that the Sox need a new RF?) BTV accepts Matt Lugo for him. Oakland always accepts less than BTV…
  9. And both are probably overvalued!!
  10. You do realize those type of moves are the one thing that have changed…
  11. Yes. More teams lock up their young stars or trade them to someone else who will. Not to mention the top end contract lengths and cash. You still see the occasional 27-28yo free agent, but it’s not as common. And now when you do see one, you can’t sign them for 6-7 years anymore.
  12. No, that’s a plan for filling gaps for one year. You can’t build sustainable success through free agency anymore…
  13. It might make us greedy and start asking for Juan Soto…
  14. I was glad he went elsewhere. Still prefer Andrus…
  15. The spent $560mill on three players to go from a 60 win team to a 68 win team. They don’t make a good argument for improving through spending…
  16. No. 2b. Segura was render really a very good SS…
  17. It’s more relevant than anything from 4 or 5 years ago absolutely. But it’s also just one year and sometimes a pitcher can just have a bad year or be injured. I mean, Verlander had his best season at age 39. That’s just ridiculous…
  18. I’d greatly prefer Andrus, since Rojas really only had the one good season and is very one dimensional. But I also think Segura is probably most likely…
  19. I do think Bloom knows what he’s doing. I also think what he’s doing is not what a lot of fans expect or, in many cases, want him to do. The plan is clearly unpopular, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist…
  20. Story is certainly an option, but it appears as though they are exploring keeping him at second…
  21. Or maybe find another Chris Murphy. It’s a common enough name…
  22. Yeah Bloom has been just throwing money all over the place. I think the issue here is you made your mind up any Bloom a long time ago and now you’ve gone to fitting the stories to match your opinions. Certainly not open-minded…
  23. As opposed to a 35yo pitcher that’s made 26 starts total in the past two years. Now THAT is a building block…
  24. Do you remember your point? Teams only go in for Verlander (and his ilk) when going for it, and the Sox were in no position to do that. So tell me how 68-94 Texas is in a better position? And hopefully your argument doesn’t hinge on them finishing ahead of Oakland…
  25. And if we only use one season, do we conclude Elvis Andrus is a better home run hitter than Bogaerts? There’s a reason most use multiple seasons. I prefer 3 years worth myself…
