  1. Running with this: SP: Syndergaard, Bassitt, Sale, Paxton, Pivetta, Bello (with Crawford and Winckowski for AAA depth) RP: Fulmer, Montero, Houck, Whitlock, Schreiber, Barnes, Kelly, LHRP (Taylor? Strahm? Darwinzon? Walter? Murphy?) C: McGuire, Wong 1b: Casas 2b: Story 3b: Devers SS: E Hernandez or ? LF: Verdugo CF: E Hernandez or ? RF: ? So with $50mill committed to pitching, that leaves $30mill with your limit for a RF and either a SS or a CF. It’s doable although maybe Bogaerts and Swanson are not the answers…
  2. Also as it stands now, a Hosmer / Dalbec platoon might be the solution for DH. Not my preference, but it does check a couple boxes. That really just leaves SS and RF…
  3. Is the limit $80mill? I thought $80mill was what the Sox had committed once Bogaerts opts out…
  4. The entire comedy was based on him acting buffoonish but redeeming himself at the end by virtue of his heart of gold. In this respect, the obvious influence of Ralph Cramden (of “The Honeymooners”) is rather blatant…
  5. So you think Bloom should have brought a Schwarber back to play where?
  6. No one believes you were complimenting him by referring to him as a buffoonish animated character…
  7. For SP, sign Syndergaard and Bassitt For RP, sign Montero and Fulmer. That’s probably about $50mill in AAV right there. SS, RF and DH (and maybe C) still up in the air…
  8. Hosmer is very likely in play for the LHH DH role, by virtue of being in Boston with a full NTC and no salary against. Either he is part of some 1b/DH rotation, or he gets DFAd. But I’m just keeping Vogelbach alive because some people have written him off for weird reasons.
  9. That’s the beauty of intangibles; you don’t have to know what you’re talking about. Just drop a buzzword!!
  10. Thinking Willson Contreras as C/DH for 2023…
  11. To his credit, Dombrowski has not done in Philadelphia what he did in Boston and Detroit. No 6 or 7 years mega-contracts. No emptying the upper levels of the farm. (Heck he actually tried using them.) Interestingly, he has reverted to his Detroit days in hoping and praying a closer happens as opposed to his Boston days of stockpiling the bullpen with closers (most of whom got hurt). Bloom obviously liked Schwarber; he traded for Kyle while he was on the Injured List and waited out the impact. But he “whiffed” because the Sox were simply too close to their budget limit to afford a second DH while having other vacancies in the lineup. By the way, does this newfound love of Schwarber mean you’re finally through referring to him as Fred Flintstone in a derogatory manner?
  12. Career OPS vs RHP : .822 Career OPS vs LHP: .485 I have no issues with the Reverse Dalbec, especially since we still have the Original Dalbec, so it matches up nicely…
  13. Why pass on “DH only” Vogelbach when the Sox do need a DH? The Sox don’t need a DH to back up anywhere. It’s a nice luxury, but actually straight up offense should be the top (and possibly only) requirement…
  14. To be fair, he never said successfully argue. I mean some people might argue Adam Duvall’s strength is his ability to infiltrate the minds of others and make them do his bidding subconsciously. But their argument doesn’t change reality. And the reality with Duvall is rather obvious; it’s defense first, then infiltrating minds is a distant second. Then power…
  15. It might be more common than I realize, but I have never done it…
  16. It was also a product of the times, a and I think Canseco named him in “Juiced!”, although admittedly I never read the book. To me, if it’s based on an SI cover, clearly these accusations are made by people who never heard of Gabe Kapler…
  17. Not only have I never hit on a colleague’s spouse, I introduced a couple colleagues to their eventual spouses…
  18. Bloom has been part of a front office that acquired him before…
  19. So he got injured and refused to sign an extension while injured? And folks are complaining about this? If only Chris Sale had followed suit…
  20. For what and by who? With Nomar, there was a lot of interpreting him sitting in the dugout as being selfish. Cabrera used to call the official scorer during games to get errors changed to either other players or into hits. Also he allegedly was known for making moves on the wives of his teammates…
  21. The bad teammate stories surrounding Orlando Cabrera are much, much worse. I assumed the Sox simply moved from him in order to take advantage of loopholes in the free agent compensation system (and maybe they did), but the White Sox moved from him for reasons related to him being a selfish a-hole…
  22. Jeter did help himself by being a cornerstone of MLB’s most popular franchise and playing during the “Let’s Give Awards To Bad Shortstops” Era. It’s really an indictment the entire Gold Glove system that horrible defensive players like Jeter, Edgar Renteria, and Michael Young combined to win 8 Gold Gloves while far superior defenders Adam Everett, Jack Wilson, and Rafael Furcal have 0 combined awards. It turns out, Sox fans, Renteria might have just been an overrated defensive player given awards he didn’t deserve…
  23. If the Sox retain Bogaerts, I assume he’s only the SS for maybe 2 or 3 seasons tops. I really don’t have a lot of faith in his defense, but it will come down to how much longer he can hit…
  24. And we all thought Lars Anderson would hit better than Danny Heep, but sometimes reality doesn’t oblige. I’m not saying Rafaela is Darren Lewis 2.0 (which wouldn’t be a bad thing as DL had a good career); I’m saying by if he plays good defense, hits .250, and walks 8% of the time, that’s exactly what Lewis did. For years…
  25. I know t this is laced with sarcasm, but there’s always someone who rewards this and doesn’t get the sarcasm and then still fails to realize how truly ridiculous it is to try and compare our lives to MLB players do directly. I mean how am I supposed to imagine my agent turning anything down? (That’s not the entirety of the issues with this comp.)
