That’s why I like Yoshida first and why I was (sort of) on the Nimmo bandwagon last season. The Sox haven’t really embraced OBP as an offensive weapon in a while.*. It worked when they did it. Time to bring it back. *Yoshida could change this.

Yes, but with a better farm. Also - and this seems off to say - the Dodgers seem more rational with their contracts. For example, but the Dodgers guaranteed Freddie Freeman the same money the Mets guaranteed to Brandon Nimmo. Now Nimmo is younger and has it spread out over more years. But he’s also more injury-prone, plays a tougher position, and, well, isn’t a former MVP…

Batting Devers second gets him 18 more PA on average. It might not seem like much but Devers’ plate appearances are good to maximize. The #3 spot is the most likely hitter to come up with 2 outs and no one on base. Obviously it’s not a place to dump a mediocre hitter, because the 3 spot still gets lots of plate and should have a fair amount of RBI opportunities, but it’s not the ideal location for Devers. Not really sure who I would bat there (and absolutely no idea who Cora would). I also liked the idea of Yoshida at leadoff since the Sox haven’t had a good leadoff hitter since Betts. Cora probably sticks with Kike there, which seems like a bad idea that he just keeps trying…

The NBA cap actually permits and creates dynasties, since teams can sign their own superstars for more than other teams can. The NFL doesn’t do that but certainly has ways to promote teams keeping their own, like franchise tags. But unlike the NBA, NFL players seems to hate that. But then NFL salary rules and structures don’t appear to follow rules of any known branch of mathematics. The NBA isn’t much better. The NFL does position itself for more roster turnover than other sports because -Tom Brady aside - careers can be insanely short. Tough to build a dynasty when there will be 40 new faces within 5 years…

In some respects whoever said that was probably right; Song could probably out-push-up everyone in MLB. The problem is that doesn’t necessarily translate to throwing 100+ pitches with control and command…

Oddly the cap seems to have had the opposite effect of what was intended. Or at the very least, has made zero difference. Look at the NBA. Since they re-installed the cap in 1984, only 11 different teams have won a title. That stretch covers 38 seasons. In capless MLB, you only have to go back to 2008 to find 11 different World Series Champions…
