The thing is, now Grizzlies just feels like one of those “fierce animal” mascots, like Lions. Or Hawks. Or Blue Jays. Jazz only makes sense as a moniker if it’s part of the city culture. I get Jazz, Grizzlies and Lakers all began in cities where those names made regional sense. But Grizzlies actually works anywhere. Now if there is a city that should not let the names travel with the team, it’s Buffalo. I mean, Buffalo Bills is just a bad pun and possibly the worst moniker in professional sports. But that city also has a minor league baseball team called the Bison. That’s just annoying. But to make matters worse, their hockey team is called the Sabres. I mean, come on! “WINGS” is RIGHT THERE!! And it’s a legit hockey term!! I can picture the uniforms as orange, while the helmets get painted to look like blue cheese. And maybe green sticks. Your NHL Buffalo Wings! It should have already happened. What’s wrong with those Snow Belt Freaks?!?

You can’t compare his velocity as a second baseman to his velocity as a shortstop. He’s throwing from a much closer part of the infield and not having to throw hard nearly as many times…

I keep reading that Story has no arm strength left and now throws like a kindergartener using his wrong arm. And while his arm strength is certainly down from where it was, it’s still stronger than 2022 Gold Glover Dansby Swanson and Sox fan favorite Jose Iglesias…

True, but most of these guys have 30-40IP. At 35 IP, each earned run add 0.26 to a pitcher’s ERA. Hopefully they can get those down as IP goes up…

I don’t think the problem is McGuire. Wong is certainly the better defensive catcher, but that doesn’t make McGuire the problem…

I suppose this is meant to target the pitching. Although sometimes we score 3 or less and lose, like the 1-0 loss to Tampa. The issue that day wasn’t pitching. Their SP has been pretty weak. But it’s also actually improving. We started the season with 3 SP on the IL; next week (hopefully) another comes back. Sale has improved nicely, something that was anticipated by those who understood pitchers cannot simply pick the ball up after a multiyear hiatus and continue as if nothing happened. Even Kluber looks better recently, although looking worse should result in a DFA. I won’t call this starting pitching “good” and yes, it’s the big weakness. But it is slowly improving and might someday reach the level of “adequate”…

Well they started with the name “Athletics” in Philadelphia and kept it in Kansas City and eventually Oakland. It would be a shame to drop it at this point. Also they won’t go to “Aces”, as good as that is, simply to eschew any connection to gambling…

Or unicorn lunch boxes! Back when those things were made of sheet metal and came with a thermos that was essentially a 4” PVC pipe but with only a 1/2” hole down the middle for your shot of chocolate milk, those things were wieldy weapons in the right hands…

What’s up with all the “unicorn” references for things that don’t exist anymore? “Unicorns” are for things that never were. (Because unicorns never existed.) Dinosaurs, dodo birds, slubber doffers - those are for things that existed once but not anymore…

Most of the guys in the WOO bullpen have already been released by other teams at some point. But I think that’s probably true of most AAA bullpens…

I think he’s probably a utility player at best. But the Sox presumably know him better than me and my cursory evaluation…

It might be as simple as they want him to play and won’t call him up to sit on the bench. Maybe they think he’s actually got a chance to be good. Or at least adequate for an extended period. If Kike gets hurt, they really have no choice, barring another move. They might even think Dalbec can handle shortstop for a few innings or even a full game without derailing the entire season. They also clearly don’t care if Dalbec comes up to sit, which might be a bigger factor than we realize. Just a thought…
