  1. But even last year, Machado was worth 7.0 fWAR/6.8 bWAR, while Devers was worth 4.9 fWAR/4.4 bWAR. Machado is a better all around player due to his vastly superior defense. And nothing else. In fact, Devers OPS+ through his age 22 season was 116, which is better than Machado’s at the same age (114). No truth to Devers “sucked early on”…
  2. See, once again it’s the whole “but all these complete strangers agree with me. You’ll have to take my word they exist.”
  3. Quoting, not quitting. My auto correct on this keyboard is soooo annoying…
  4. He did lead the league in OAA last year. The sneaky bargain if you get offense at catcher (like Contreras) is to bring in Elvis Andrus, whose glove still plays. In fact, the Sox might be able to get Andrus and Contreras for not much more than Swanson and probably less than Bogaerts. And I’d rather start Contreras and Andrus over Swanson and McGuire…
  5. What difference does it make who spent it? The bottom line was there was not any more to spend. And no - there were several who flat out ignored the existence of the payroll…
  6. You don’t get swayed by the media? Dude you openly admit to quoting then out here nearly every day!!
  7. Should he break it? After his age 25 season, Machado was worth 30.1 fWAR/34.6 bWAR. At the same age, Devers is worth 18.1 fWAR/15.2 bWAR. Is he really a better player who deserves to break that?
  8. People were calling Bloom out for cheapness on this board until it was finally pointed out the Sox still had one of the highest payrolls in MLB. It’s not even just about the Star Factor. There’s a Recency Effect. If you didn’t buy an All Star this off-season, then this of clearly Tampa North…
  9. As opposed to Bogaerts at $189/7? Or even Nimmo at $110/5? This team will need offense, too…
  10. You probably should stop speaking for people who aren’t you. The whole notion that your opinion is widespread among the fans is completely unsupported. And unnecessary. We already take you seriously. You don’t need to pretend to be popular…
  11. 5Gold made an equally good point with his Clevinger update. To some fans, anything shy of All Star is bargain basement shopping…
  12. If he settles for 4/$84mill, that’s a steal. But I don’t he gets that. I’m thinking somewhere between 4/$96mill and 5/$110mill
  13. And there is a significant portion of the sports media that is dedicated to creating controversy and riling up passionate fans, regardless of whether or not there is any controversy…
  14. Sign Contreras.
  15. One guy no one on this board is really mentioning is Wilson Contreras. I think he’s a great fit. RHH power bat. Can DH on days he doesn’t catch (and it’s not like the Sox have David Ortiz in that role). He’s 30 years old with a 116 OPS+ over the past 3 years. And MLBTR projected him for a 4 year $84mil contract, which seems very light after seeing what Jose Abreu signed for. So let’s say 4-5 years with a $22-24 mill AAV IS 4-5 years of Contreras a wiser investment that 7-10 years of Bogaerts/Correa?
  16. Diekman also landed the Sox their current starting catcher…
  17. With the exception of last year pre-lockout, when was the last time any MLB team made the off-season exciting?
  18. I’ve seen a few people citing how late in the off-season last year a lot of Sox moves were made as it should be proof of a loom’s indecisiveness or something. And not due to a lockout that ran from December 3rd to March 10th…
  19. So far 29 other GMs are just as inactive, like they are every year.
  20. I think McGuire filled the void in his heart for a defense-oriented catcher making low arbitration money…
  21. He was posting DRS at an unholy rate prior to 2022. 42 DRS total in 2019-2021, with 21 of them coming in 2021. Last year he went the other way with -9…
  22. Brandon Belt…
  23. Davis was worth -1.1 bWAR. Chavis was worth -0.1 bWAR. Davis was worse but both teams lost that trade…
  24. How does the Chavis trade look bad? We released Davis, but the Pirates released Chavis just weeks later. To me the Pivetta trade was amazing. The Sox got multiple years of a decent SP for 3 months of two journeyman relievers who have combined to play for over 10 teams since that trade…
