  1. Sometimes yes. Although I think he was under control through 2023 at the time of that deal. Contreras went for peanuts just yesterday…
  2. You’re only looking at one aspect of the market. I know it’s one thing if you’re some guy on the Internet posting in web forums about “hidden gem” ball players who are actually far more talented than have been able to show in limited opportunities or whatever. But they do exist, and for obvious reasons. There is also the trade market where richer teams give up dirt to acquire star players from poor teams…
  3. There has been so much about “this is the year Bloom has to do something,” and “the Sox need to make the playoffs this year”, etc. They might be awful this year as part of the script. The fear among too many fans is that Bloom is incompetent and doesn’t know what he’s doing. Well, what if he knows exactly what he’s doing? Then what?
  4. This is why I think it’s still early to give up. I mean, technically it isn’t even winter yet…
  5. And then what? If Henry wanted a cheaper team, this is the course?
  6. Think the Sox should give a 7 year $200 mill contract to a starting pitcher who averages 106 IP per season for his career? The Sox are better off counting on Paxton and Sale…
  7. Alex Scherff!!
  8. I think most of us could come up with unique lineups and rotations right now. But it’s also just December 11, still roughly 60 days before pitchers and catchers report…
  9. … which is nothing for 5 years of a pre-arb All Star catcher. Ceddane Rafaela would have gotten it done…
  10. Didn’t he get DFAd? If you look at what Milwaukee gave up for William Contreras, there was a big miss…
  11. Are the Yankees really in? If deGrom can wind up in Texas instead of with the Mets, are things really going as expected?
  12. I’m going to counter that’s and predict the North Carolina native and former member of the Wolfpack chooses Baltimore…
  13. Career FIP of 4.07 and good for 160 IP every year. He’s no ace but he’s not exactly useless either…
  14. Despite that Yoshida was likely signed to replace some of the offense lost with the whole Bogaerts scenario, I do doubt they have z Yoshida penciled in at DH. It doesn’t make the OF defense much better, but then if other trades are in the works, it wouldn’t surprise me if Verdugo was one of the players being shopped…
  15. Despite all the recent issues, the Sox are still one of the better paying teams in MLB. As such, his agent isn’t likely to advise him to break off negotiations, even if the only reason is to drive up his price…
  16. A lot of teams haven’t made any moves as well. There are about 30 SP left. 1. I’m surprised the Sox haven’t signed Ryan Yarbrough. 2. Rodon, Syndergaard, and Kluber might be the most intriguing ones left…
  17. I would not have minded Sideshow Bob had the Sox signed him…
  18. Exactly, damnit!! What’s the holdup here?!?
  19. Maybe. Really depends on what Henry wants, too…
  20. Which means what? What exactly will any of us do if the Sox don’t make the postseason this year?
  21. The Sox spent $122mill in the 24 hours before Bogaerts agreed with San Diego. There are certainly issues with the Bogaerts situation, but cheapness isn’t one of them…
  22. They have paid premier money for premier players recently, just not their own and not over $217mill. Reportedly they did offer Betts $300mill (over 10 years), but he turned it down…
  23. Who thought this team was going to struggle before 2022?
  24. You think the Sox need a closer?
