  1. I dismiss them. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them…
  2. Just so the team has one good Story?
  3. It was definitely unexpected that Rodon would take this long to get injured…
  4. I don’t think DD is going to jeopardize the career of a player just to be petty with the Sox. I also really doubt he doesn’t care about the bottom of his 40 man roster. I do think he struggles to fill it due to his heavy-spending and farm-emptying strategies. But he also uses almost all of it every year just like every GM and he does his best with what he has left to fill it. I think his goal is to stick it to Boston by getting a ring before they do. As the saying goes, living well is the best revenge.
  5. Well, Song has a 15 day “get back on shape” period in which he can be sent to the minors as allowed for players removed from the Military List, but I don’t know if that means he can be left off the 40 man roster for it. This is somewhat of a new area with a Rule 5 pick…
  6. If the Phillies don’t put him on the 40 - and on the 26 - they have to either return him, trade for him, or trade him to another team that puts him on the 26 man roster. The only way he is available in the Rule 5 draft next year is if Philly completes a trade with Boston for him and then leaves him unprotected next year. That isn’t going to happen…
  7. Exactly. The only real option that works for both Song and the Phillies would be the one I’ve been saying since he was drafted, which would be for the Phillies to simply complete a trade with Boston and acquire Song outright. They they could demote him to the minors. Right now his biggest issue is inactivity, and all Philly has done is compound that issue by not pitching him. That DD still has not added him to the 40 man roster makes me think he plans to either return Song to Boston or (more likely) complete a trade for him, and then he could send Song to A ball without having to add him to the 40 man roster and burn an option year…
  8. Which begs the question “WTF did DD select him for?” I assumed it was for pitching…
  9. If you have no IP, your ERA is NOT 0.00. It’s undefined, because of that whole “division by zero” thingy…
  10. So far this preseason Politi - 3.2 IP 9.81 ERA Ward - 3.2 IP 0.00 ERA Song - 0 IP No ERA
  11. It’s also entirely possible the Sox got exactly what they wanted from Renfroe - one season that made him attractive trade bait to help build up the farm. It’s also possible they were hoping Bradley could bounce back and give them the same thing…
  12. The Sox OF might be getting dumped on here. I’m not wild about Duvall in CF, but he is a Gold Glove winner who could easily prove me wrong. Alex Verdugo is less than 3 years older than Cabrera and infinitely more accomplished than the 170PA/70 innings in the OF career totals for the Yankee LF. Yoshida is certainly a question, but does come with a legitimate hitting track record overseas in probably the best foreign league. It’s not a stretch to see Cabrera ranking 5th (Or 6th! Don’t sleep on Bader!) among these two teams’ outfielders…
  13. Hard to believe you’re being shocked at Rodon and Kahnle being injured after calling Paxton’s injury predictable…
  14. Duvall is probably the closest, unless you count Hernandez. Fun fact - Duvall has as many Gold Gloves as Bradley (one) and win his more recently (2021, vs 2018 for Bradley) I’d like Duvall better in RF, but with no better option for CF, I get why he is there…
  15. I think we can forgive him for not playing 100 games in 2020. He did play in 57 out of 60 games. So credit him with 2 full time roles…
  16. Tapia is not a guy you hand a position to. He’s a light-hitting (when not facing Boston) bat-to-ball guy with some speed and plate discipline issues that you settle for when no other solution worked out. He did hurt the Sox badly last year, but some of that was inflated by poor defense. His inside-the-park grand slam, for example, was really just a routine fly to center that was horribly misplayed…
  17. Duvall-Renfroe comparisons are pretty good offensively. Both are strong power hitters with a lot of swing-and-miss. Defensively Duvall is the much better player but Renfroe has the stronger arm.
  18. The point is defensively I don’t think Tapia is even as good as JBJ post heyday. But yes, Kike is the clear best defensive option in CF. So maybe Mondesi pushes a struggling Duvall out if necessary. That does feel like a long shot…
  19. And no spinach…
  20. Sounds reasonable. Especially since Tapia isn’t exactly JBJ with the glove…
  21. So if he struggles - Tapia or Rafaela? Tapia is the veteran option, but Rafaela is on the 40 man..
  22. I’m not wild about Duvall in CF. Defensively I like him over most of the other internal options, but his 0 for 11 with 6 k’s isn’t a surprise. He’s always swung and missed a lot. I mean, a lot of people think Trevor Story K’s too much. If so, you’re not going to like Duvall. Duvall’s career high in K’s is 174. The last time Trevor Story had that many strikeouts, it took him 101 more PA than it took Duvall.
  23. Alfaro is the better hitter, but Wong looks better defensively (caveat: limited action). But Wong had a massive leg up given he’s on the 40 man roster and Alfaro is on a minor league contract. So keeping Wong over Alfaro would have let the team control both, at least until Alfaro’s opt out date. The injury to Wong makes that moot, as it’s going to allow Alfaro on to the 40 man…
  24. But we had nothing else to do in NE, so we started throwing the ball around in March! In Canada, they play hockey and curling until May, the lacrosse through June and July. August is for baseball…
  25. Baseball Reference lists 135 pitchers as coming from Canada, with only 12 topping 1,000 IP. And even among those 12, we had DL Frequent Flyers Erik Bedard and Kirk McCaskill…
