  1. It wasn’t even a need until mid-January. At that point, there were certainly good players left (Correa hadn’t even signed the first of his 3 deals yet), but were there any stopgap options definitively better than Hernandez? (I liked Andrus, but as he is not at SS, comparisons are tough.) Also Adalberto Mondesi isn’t dead yet. I get how his consistent IL trips can create that impression. But he isn’t…
  2. Also, if the Sox did sign a SS, they very likely wouldn’t have signed a CF who’s on pace for 81 HRs and a 338 OPS+…
  3. Why do we like to pretend that’s all Bloom and none of it is Cora? You know, the manager who started Christian Vazquez at 1b, 2b and 3b in various games before Bloom was even hired?
  4. Really with the exception of some in-game strategies, there isn’t much about Cora that’s wrong. And even when I question them, I know 1) there’s a reason he’s an MLB manager and I’m not and 2) he does make these calls with infinitely more info than I use to criticize them…
  5. Kike only had about 1,000 career innings in CF before signing with Boston. That worked out. It might be a bit early to panic on Kike at SS. Some (all?) of his errors are likely due a lack of experience at the position. Experienced shortstops Bo Bichette and CJ Abrams have 3 errors each, and neither has the “but I’ve been playing elsewhere” excuse. The Sox are very likely going to stick with Hernandez for a while, and there’s a good chance he improves…
  6. He should be starting over Duvall!!!
  7. And more SS than Hernandez from 2019-2022…
  8. I do doubt the Sox make any changes based on a 9th inning error in a 14-5 game. Most likely they let Kike settle in for a bit and see if the errors slow down. And it really wouldn’t be surprising if they did…
  9. But is he an upgrade over Kike? And serviceable until a replacement arrives? Worcester has Goodrum. I’ll take Chang…
  10. Hey Chang is already here. And his 0 for 5 this year might not be representative of his the rest of the season…
  11. Also, if you’re listening to a game and the Sox are down a run late, it’s ok to let your car idle longer at the next light…
  12. And then there’s this. https://www.nbcnews.com/science/environment/climate-change-leading-home-runs-study-finds-rcna78511
  13. That’s why his parents chose that name…
  14. Those Braves’ fan didn’t watch Jake Diekman try to close out games…
  15. I doubt Houck leaves the rotation until a second starter (Bello? Paxton?) is activated. And at that point they’ll demote Kelly because Ort is apparently too difficult to demote…
  16. Cherington’s Pirates have the best record of any team run a current or former Sox executive…
  17. But how’s the glove? Of course, if the Sox did sign Andrus, maybe they don’t sign Duvall and would instead be 1-5 right now.
  18. Only 6 players in MLB history have had the first name “Nolan.” Four of them came up playing 3rd base. (Arenado, Gorman, Jones, Fontana). Only one (Reimold) started out as an outfielder. And one one was a pitcher - the infamous Nolan Swancy. And the one you’re thinking I somehow omitted from this actually used his middle name - Lynn Nolan Ryan…
  19. On the bright side, there’s a good chance they’re better than Brian Rose and Jeff Suppan. (Payback to 5Gold for stepping on my injury joke toes.)
  20. Plus the Sox did at least extend Devers while Pirates’ star Bryan Renolds was demanding a trade (or an 8 year $134mill contract extension)…
  21. It’s sad because he’s done a decent job identifying guys who can pitch. Wacha maybe could have been have for a multiyear deal that didn’t break the payroll…
  22. Unlike most, I don’t have any complaints about Kike’s glove anywhere he’s played. I don’t like him as a leadoff hitter, but e haven’t seen that yet this year. I still like McGuire behind the plate, and in limited action, there’s been nothing to dislike about him at the plate, either. The issue with Bloom isn’t the little allegedly unconverted moves. He’s had a good share of successes there. But his flaw is his frequent under commitment for vet talent. Why only all these one year deals? Why is the one pitcher he tried to go “all in” Zack Elflin?
  23. Fangraphs had him as their #15 with a FV of 45. The Sox closest equivalent middle infielders had FV of 40+ and were Jeter Downs and David Hamilton. Downs was certainly on his was down the prospect ladder. Hamilton? I make that deal. BTV - and working from memory here - gave Rojas a similar surplus value to Jarren Duran. I can see reasons why Miami does and doesn’t make that deal…
  24. Better. Stay in your lane…
