  1. I blame Cora. There’s no rule stating Ort has to pitch. MLB has no participation rules. I blame Bloom for keeping Ort, and have through multiple DFAs. Clearly Bloom is not going to be swayed by Ort’s inability to prevent the opposition from scoring. So it’s time for Cora - unless he’s complicit - to make a stand and never let Ort pitch except in blowouts…
  2. Kluber appears so. We should probably let Paxton throw a pitch first…
  3. 13-5 since the first series…
  4. It’s Rule 9.17©. No need for a change. Just need scorers who know how to use it…
  5. That rule already exists. The official scorer can award elsewhere if the relief pitcher of record was ineffective in a brief outing. But I can promise you he won’t in this case…
  6. Technically, the scoring has been fine (3rd most runs in MLB). The hitting has been average. Metrics like wRC+ and wOBA have the Sox in the 12-13 range. Interestingly they’re not just lucky, as BABIP is 21st in MLB. If ever anyone wanted to re-start a clutch argument, this team might provide solid evidence…
  7. It is amazing that this team where no one can hit, pitch or field is somehow playing .500…
  8. And how often do 20 game projections hold up over 162 games? By that logic, Max Muncy will hit 80 HRs this year and Adam Duvall will injure 16 wrists. I think for about $2mill, the Sox stand a very good chance to exceed both the offense and defense Vazquez would have provided, and I’d take the current tandem over Vaz. Of course if signing Vaz meant not signing Kluber, i probably would have objected at the time, back when I still had faith in Kluber. But in hindsight it would have been the smarter move..
  9. I think Kluber averaging 88mph with limited command is the bigger issue. Having looked at StatCast data as a result of these CERA debates, I did notice Wong ranks among the best catchers in MLB for most of the metrics they monitor. Of course, at this stage of the season, sample sizes are limited. McGuire isn’t the bottom of catcher defense per StatCast. Hes pretty average, basically the same as the now overpaid Christian Vazquez…
  10. Clearly we all understand the problem with Kluber is McGuire. Reese is holding him back…
  11. I think the rotation looks better lately, but I’m hesitant to say it looks good…
  12. I also think a lot of white flags went up after getting swept by Pitt. That Baltimore-Pitt-Detroit stretch was supposed to give them a positive start, better than 5-7. Of course, those teams sit at a combined 35-26 (30-19 against the rest of MLB) and weren’t the pushovers everyone anticipated…
  13. Stand up when you say that, sir!!
  14. I will say, if he let the Padres back into a Red Sox-Brewers game, I am with you 100% on questioning his defensive aptitude…
  15. He was not. Espinoza’s best ranking was BA #19 in 2016. Kopech was BA #11 in 2018 and MLB.com #10 that same year…
  16. Apparently you mean “unless Kluber pitches to McGuire..
  17. Weren’t they? Both BA Top 20. And if they weren’t blue chippers, the Sox wouldn’t have been able to deal them for Sale…
  18. Not in San Diego, anyway. And why should it? Has any team from San Diego ever won any sort of title?
  19. I think Pudge Rodriguez and Joe Mauer could be on that list. The best All Around catchers today are probably JT Realmuto and Sean Murphy. With Adley Rutschman looking to climb that ladder fast…
  20. Aren’t the Sox playing well too?
  21. That happened one time. Just one game. Not sure why people even have an opinion on this yet..
  22. It’s actually almost literally a whole different set of pitchers…
  23. So… making a team entirely out of shortstops doesn’t work? That can’t be!
  24. I’m still on the “Mistake Not Keeping Graterol” mantra. But Wong might be able to make it look like less of one…
  25. Brewers. The Sox played the Brewers last night…
