  1. Is Burnes a Boras client? B-R lists his agent as CAA Sports…
  2. And notin thinks that 78-84 team could have flipped that record around if they played some quality defense…
  3. The one advantage to dealing for Burnes now is you get him at his arb price for 2024 and any potential extension wouldn’t kick in until 2025 when Sale is off the books (assuming his option doesn’t trigger) and therefore more palatable to any budget concerns for this season, assuming there are any. I’d still prefer a deal for a SP with multiple years of control…
  4. What are the eligibility requirements for the minor league portion vs the major league portion?
  5. He turns 36 on April 11. Still time to send a card if you’re interested…
  6. Certainly has potential…
  7. 1. Budget limitations on the current year might be a factor. What if Burnes’ arb cost was acceptable this year and his AAV might work next season when Sale is gone. 2. Better pitcher? 3. Depends on the prospects.
  8. There is value in innings, but if he’s cost prohiythat would defeat the whole point…
  9. I’d say no on young outfielders, given they have Mitchell, Wiener and Frelick. SS depends on how they feel about Brice Turang…
  10. By throwing around gobs and gobs of cash…
  11. Giolito for some reason was actually pretty high on MLBTRs Top 50 list. Given his last two years, it’s a question if he belonged at all. One bad season is certainly forgiveable. But the rapidly diminishing luster on Giolito has dropped him down to Pillow Contract Candidate as his ceiling. However, if the Sox do acquire some budget breaker like Yamamoto, is a one year deal for Giolito a better fit?
  12. Unfair post!! If anyone counters it, it becomes self-fulfilling! Does that count as a fact check?
  13. I agree the one free agent/one trade is probably more likely than 2 free agents. Both Burnes and Montgomery work. I also don’t see a big difference between Montgomery and Stroman. So that combo works for me. But what to give up for Burnes? Whether or not one agrees with BTV, it’s probably accurate in saying the oft-mentioned Yorke won’t be enough. Duran matches up nicely, but Milwaukee has two young outfielders (Mitchell and Frelick) along side the immovable Yelich filling his position. Bleis is also a close match, but is also an outfielder and possibly too far away. I’d hope one year of Burnes doesn’t cost Mayer or Anthony. And certainly not Bello. So who?
  14. My point(and theory) is, of course it was retracted because it limited his options. I doubt translation was a factor despite the statement
  15. Correcting a misleading statement happens to most people. I get fact-checked as much as anyone. Sometimes I acknowledge. Sometimes I ignore. Sometimes I probably don’t see it. But saying John Flaherty wasn’t left off the playoff roster isn’t “nitpicking” and it sure as Hell isn’t a matter of opinion. It’s fixing a 100% misleading statement. Sorry if you don’t want these errors corrected. But at least I respond directly to you and don’t quietly attack your commentary in a series of posts that all contain the phrase “some people out here will tell you” or “some posters out here will tell you” and then finish that statement with my content. Maybe I need to switch my tactics over to the clearly more acceptable Subtle Backhanded Stab (this last sentence should be in green, and it needs to be a real deep green. Maybe like a pine green. But not hunter green, because hunter green isn’t a green at all. He’s a Red.)
  16. I think we all know it would be. In no way anything the most sought-after free agent pitcher in the entire market and the biggest Japanese import since Daisuke is going to be allowed to publicly eliminate anyone from his market, whether he meant it or not. Of course it will be a factor, just not the significant one Sox fans could use…
  17. On Yamamoto He’s indicated a preference to sign with s as team that would give him a Kapanedr teammate. Right now, only two of his Orix Buffalo teammates are property of an MLB team. One is Yoshida. The other is Rangel Ravelo, who signed with Seattle yesterday. Did Seattle sign the rather fungible Ravelo in hopes of him being a familiar face to entice Yamamoto?
  18. That’s possibly a factor, but that kind of thing happens every year…
  19. Maybe Breslow wasn’t so sold on Gray? Maybe he did match but Gray chose St. Louis? We really don’t know to what extent the Sox were involved, if at all, and may never know. Or maybe (re:most likely), Breslow didn’t bother with Gray because he was focusing on other pitchers. He’s already been connected to Montgomery. Msybe they’re talking to Yamamoto’s people? This was the fist week anything could happen on that front. I won’t hold what Breslow doesn’t do against him until he actually does something…
  20. I don’t think drafting Yorke has anything to do with taking Blaze. They took Yorke earlier than most scouts had him because they liked something about Yorke but didn’t have a second round pick and didn’t think he would last until their third round pick…
  21. Some of those big money teams are also not spending. San Diego leaps to mind…
  22. Why not? They dealt Eovaldi to Boston.
  23. Another way to look at it is two potential suitors have spent their allowance. I liked Gray. I didn’t want Nola anyway, How many “big money” teams are left for the last 3? (Or 4, since someone is going to sign Ohtani.)
  24. No. That two have fallen doesn’t mean the rest are eager to sign with anyone who answers the phone. Unless instructed otherwise by their clients, the agents for each of these pitchers will be checking in with any and every team with an open Walker to make sure nothing is left on the table. Now it’s possible someone like Montgomery will say “anywhere but Boston.” But I wouldn’t bank on it.
  25. The trade market has numerous options. Cease, Burnes, Glasnow, and Bieber could all be dealt this off-season…
