    Right. So money isn't important. Yet folks still keep demanding Henry sell the team to another owner who wants to spend more. You need to remind them spending doesn't matter...

    I think he gave Bloom the far more difficult task of winning while cutting the budget, so the rope was longer. Dombrowski was given the relatively simpler task of winning with an open checkbook. And his rope ended when he spent too much and missed the post-season anyway...

    As much as I like the idea of grabbing them both, there is absolutely no denying they did fall into his lap. It's not often you lose a player for the bulk if not the entire year, and then someone DFAs a player at that same position who was an All Star two years ago and is on a very cheap contract. I still think Cooper can take over that position, as he at least has a better track record of success against MLB pitching, but he is not going to make anyone decide Casas is expendable...

    And he is awesome at predicting yesterday's lottery numbers. He can nail them like 75% of the time!

    So who would the 1B be if the Cubs never DFAd Cooper and Smith did not opt out? Dalbec and his .377 OPS? Yippy!

    Well, who was DFAd in April, 2022 that Bloom should have grabbed? The only 1B I can think of in that timeframe who was DFAd was Travis Shaw, and he was let go by Bloom (which in itself might have been a questionable move despite Shaw's slow start)...

    They can only acquire players that are available unless they go crazy and overpay. And all for a temporary replacement, since Casas is not dead...

    What if the other team wants Mayer or Anthony for a competent 1B? Should the Sox unload their best prospects for a temporary first baseman?

    Refsnyder came up as an infielder and has around 400 innings at 1b in his career, which is more than Dalbec had before Boston starting use him at 1b…

    Because if Bloom had resolved first base with two players whose OPSs were .523 and .433, you would have been praising his efforts, right?

    Grissom did have success against MLB pitching before (.746 OPS with Atlanta). Right now it’s just 37 PA. Not everyone starts out hot..

    And you get to yell about it on court. “I object!! That’s pure conjecture!!” In this case, it helps if you’re a lawyer. And know whether or not it is conjecture. Also, if they’re a witness against your client…

    I’m not asking for research, but I suspect hitting on 1 out of 4 first pitchers is probably fairly average…

    The guy is such a punchline. I was pitching to my daughter the other day, and she avoided a pitch way outside, which I told her was a strike. She disagreed. But when I then called it an “Angel Hernandez Strike,” she did agree to that…

    Straight up conjecture on whether or not a first baseman who went on the game would have caught that throw. All we know is none of their FOUR major league first basemen were in the game and the utility infielder manning first didn’t catch it…

    Like I said, defensible pick. I like Mayer and keep it, and it looks better if the Sox has been able to sign another collegiate outfielder in second round selection Jud Fabian…

    Odds favor another outcome for the 100mph arms, too, with Cavalli being a prime example. If the odds did favor velocity, teams would draft velocity. But when it comes to making MLB, what the odds do (did?) favor is hitting over pitching. And that’s (probably?) why the Sox didn’t draft pitchers early…
