Per MLBTR last July “ it would take “a decent overpay” for a deal to come together, including, at the very least, “players close to the big leagues,” if not young MLB talent.” They’re not trying to sell De La Cruz; they’re trying to capitalize on him.     That’s not unrealistic. There’s certainly a chance they insist on Tolle or no deal. We here can’t compare it to last year’s price, since none of us know it. But even if it’s less, it’s not going to be noticeably less…

    If a 35 HR hitter is vital to winning, bear in mind only one hitter (Caminero) of the 11 to hit 35 Hr is still playing. At one point you saud you wanted 20HR hitters up and down the lineup. Well if the lineup has: C: Rutschman 1b: Contreras 2b: Mead 3b: Durbin SS: Story LF : Duran CF: Rafaela RF: Abreu DH: Anthony then that’s pretty much what you have. Rafaela, Durbin, Mead and Anthony have not hit 20HRs yet. But Mead had 17 in 285 ABs. Rafaela was close with 18. Anthony certainly has the power to hit 20. That just leaves Durbin as the least likely. Is that really so bad?

    This. Both Monasterio and Sogard were in the top 8 for plate appearances. Not a good sign when two utility infielders achieve that…

    The Tigers (2024, I think), sold some players off and made the pistseason. No team has ever had multiple 20 game winners in streaks in a season, or a 20 game winners streak plus a 20 game losing streak. 20 game streaks in either direction are crazy rate. The 2026 Cubs did have two ten game winning steaks and a 10 game losing streak. I think they’re the only team ever to do that in one season….

    I just cannot get worked up about 4 games across 2 seasons. How about that the Sox were the only team to make the postseason playing a schedule that had two 90 game winners in their division? I think fans might be getting too worked up anout when the wins happened as opposed to that the wins happened. They all count the same regardless…

    Probably none, which is why Sox fans shouldn’t. The Cubs had a worse postseason than Boston and were less than thrilled with the outcome, but their most common complaint was having to get Peacock subscriptions to watch both games, not that the team should have bailed and built for the future. So a 32-5 run is lucky? Thats just sad and stupid. Yeah, they luckily swept the Yankees, Rays, Dodgers, White Sox (twice) and numerous other teams. I suppose you need to call it luck to fit a stupid argument by Cotillo…

    You seem to think the Sox were the only team that fits that bill. Houston was a .500 team. They were never very good. The Cubs had a 20-3 stretch early in the year and were under .500 in their other games. The White Sox and the Guardians both had hot stretches without which they played sub-.500 ball. Cotillo’s point is kind of silly because he is essentially saying “if you don’t count their wins, their record gets worse.” No s***. And it’s actually more egregious for the Sox, because their hot streak lasted nearly a quarter of the season. That’s not some flukish, lucky break of weak scheduling; that’s an impressive run that shouldn’t be disregarded so easily…

    For EDLC? Were they along the lines of: Breslow: What would it take to pry Elly De La Cruz from your team? Krall: Your first born. And even if it got further than that, that was back when the Sox still had Eyanson, Witherspoon, Rivas, etc. Fairly sure at least one of those three would have been necessary…

    Unless Gasper makes the team as a BUC, then I’d expect the Sox to non-tender Wong and promote someone like Tomas Nido or Jason Delay, or sign some boring free (Jake Rogers?) to become the backup catcher…

    Those teams already had the best record in each league. That counterargument already exists. The main argument against a salary cap will always be it cuts into luxury tax which cuts into revenue sharing which cuts into how much small market owners use the rest of the league to subsidize their teams. No one really wants the salary cap anyway. If the owners of the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, etc. really wanted a cap, they could stop spending and have a self-imposed cap. The salary cap is a red herring. The owners will drop it as a demand the second they get something they actually want as part of an offer…
