  1. Actually if you’re advocating for acquiring pre-arb starting pitching, that level of talent might require Casas in a trade. If so, it does free up 1b for Devers and 3b for Chapman. I think it is more likely the Sox sign redundant plsyers and trade vets other than Casas. I’ve seen columns about signing Robert Stephenson and then trading Kenley Jansen. Certainly any deal for Teoscar will be followed up with a trade of an outfielder.
  2. I can admit it - I also hoped the Sox would sign IKF. Even if it was for 2b, which he has never played, but could probably do so at Gold Glove levels. But I don’t think I mentioned him in any posts this off-season…
  3. I like players who can actually field. Not sure why you think that is such a bad idea. The Sox defense these last few years has created more runs than dairy products and carnival food combined…
  4. And it saddens me. Why would any pitcher come to Boston to pitch in front of that atrocious defense? “Hey let’s balloon my ERA until I’m unsignable!!”
  5. No. Chapman was higher on my list, and I want Teoscar Hernandez on the Sox about as much as I want cavities in my molars…
  6. Yes. Right now I would. Much rather have those 4 along with Cooper Criswell than Criswell alone. Of course I’m still holding out for Matt Chapman, who is still available and criminally short of interest rumors…
  7. The world needs more portmanteaus…
  8. 1. I don’t deny ridiculing people. I just fry not do it over them getting excited about their favorite team. 2. No one ever repeatedly hit you over the head with BA/RBI stuff like you’ve been doing. And frankly, you started that with your “I don’t care for OPS” stuff on you first day here, and then got into RBIs as more important. 3. You missed the perfect comeback to the Catholic (of which I am one) example. Sad.
  9. Calling someone’s prediction wrong is fine. Repeatedly typing it and calling it a sham crosses the line. Doing it over multiple posts is well into ridiculing. And not even ridiculing beliefs. Ridiculing someone for their allegedly unwarranted faith in Brad Keller is one thing. (And I admit it’s weak, but I think the Red is something there.) Ridiculing a Red Sox fan for getting excited about his team is a like taunting Catholics for going to church…
  10. Right, because no one ever proposed that before. Heck I’m sure I’ve done some questionable trades, too. It’s not shameful, but there is at least one neutral check that can help people now. Not sure why people don’t it. I mean, besides the egocentric reasons…
  11. Maybe. I haven’t hurt much buzz about teams actually making offers on Burnes. Certainly that didn’t mean no one has. But the silence is all we have. My prediction is Burnes will be a Brewer at least until the trade deadline, if not all season…
  12. The important thing here is Old Red is absolutely NOT ridiculing a fan for being excited. Not at all. Certainly not in unaltered text immortalized in my post bubble quote. Nothing to see here. Just innocent banter from a grown man who hates enthusiasm…
  13. You absolutely were ridiculing him. You do realize these posts stay up, right? And people can go back and read them again and again? It sort of ruins your “it wasn’t me” attempt at defense…
  14. I had him to Boston in the MLBTR free agent contest. Of course, I thought Boston would sign people back then…
  15. So you’re deriding a fan for being enthusiastic about his team? Why not deride devout religious people about their beliefs too?
  16. It might hurt their return, but it’s still the best case scenario for Milwaukee…
  17. Oh yeah. I mean I hoped to re-arrange the defense but then suggested it only worked if Turner was signed to be a $12mill utility player. Which, given that he played 58 games at 3 different positions, is arguable that he was to some extent. But why not cling to that and destroy all context?
  18. Of course it doesn’t look like Bloom was fired for any of the reasons you said, and instead was turned into ownership’s scapegoat. That the system has prevailed (and even slowed down a like) under Breslow has exposed this. So you were just bias against someone who has a different viewpoint than you. Probably not the bragging point you think it is…
  19. I’m ok with Giolito. He’s light years better than the current best pitcher added so far - Cooper Criswell.
  20. Name one non-BTV trade that has happened. Name one free agent recommendation that has happened. Like people keep saying, BTV just tells you a trade is fair. For example, you keep saying the Sox should get young pitchers with multiple years of control. Of course you won’t actually name any, but thank you for at least limiting it to MLB players. Dylan Cease and Edward Cabrera are two available names that fit that bill. What would be a good deal for Cease? That’s where BTV is useful. It can’t tell you Boston is interested in Cease and Chicago is interested in the specific combination like you seem to think is necessary. But it at least tells you what is fair. And that’s all anyone needs it for…
  21. Personally I get passing on Burnes, since he is so insistent on testing the market and the Sox are unlikely to blow him away. He doesn’t even seem concerned about poorly timed injuries ruining his free agency, like it did to his teammate Brandon Woodruff. If a pitcher isn’t worried about injury, you have no chance at getting him to extend early for less…
  22. BTV tells you if a trade is fair. It can’t tell you of both teams are interested. But it has caused a significant reduction in lopsided trade proposals that only made sense for one team. “Hey the Sox should trade Yorke, Dalbec, Hamilton and Murphy for Spencer Strider!” type deals…
  23. I don’t think Milwaukee is going to go for the “quantity over quality” deal there…
  24. Actually BTV is based on a combination of projection sites like Steamer, ZiPS, ATC or FGDC. Do you think teams don’t use projections? Sorry if BTV is too specific for you. Should we limit all conversation to say-nothing vagueries, like your contributions?
  25. That was two priorities ago…
