  1. There is no “waiting until the team is worth investing in.” That’s not what’s going on. It’s become very obvious Henry wants to run this team like Tampa is run. No one ever looks at Tampa’s rotation and thinks “that looks unbeatable.” Lately it’s been McLanahan and/or Glashow. Rarely both. And rarely anyone else. Unless you were high on Zack Eflin and his 99 ERA+ over 7 years in Philly. (If so, maybe you can get equally excited if the Sox sign Eric Lauer.). Tampa also doesn’t churn out star pitcher after star pitcher from their farm; they live off scrap heaps. Guys like Jeffrey Springs, Jason Adam, and Andrew Kittredge that they poach from other teams… It’s obvious the Sox really do want to be Tampa North. If it works, that’s a good thing. Tampa has made the postseason 5 straight years, something Boston has never done in team history…
  2. In Kluber’s two previous seasons, he posted a 4.17 ERA/3.66 FIP with a 4.1:1 K:BB over 244 IP. There isn’t much there that didn’t say he deserved to be paid as much as Kyle Gibson or Matthew Boyd…
  3. It’s almost as of there was some franchise-altering move around that time…
  4. Jordan Luplow is another RHH outfield option that excites no one (but he does excel at hitting LHP). The Sox could platoon Luplow in LF with Yoshida and platoon Refsnyder with Enmanuel Valdez at DH…
  5. Unless the Sox are talking about using Urshela as a starter and not a bench piece.
  6. Great idea for an oft-injured flamethrower!
  7. Also helps that Hicks likes Rice-A-Roni more than baked beans. And it’s truly sad that my entire knowledge of San Francisco cuisine is limited to Rice-A-Roni…
  8. Besides why are you prioritizing baseball over money here? Lorenzen is two players for the price of one! His position on his Topps card is “BOGO”. So what if he hasn’t had a hit in years?
  9. Is he a worse choice for an OF than Jorge Soler?
  10. Michael Clifton Lorenzen. Never heard of him?
  11. If the Sox are penny-pinching, maybe another potential sensible solution is Gio Urshela, who could bolster some infield defense and hit somewhat from the right side…
  12. I don’t think he would, either. But that doesn’t mean I can’t speculate on reasons why he might. I think if a player hires Boras, the notion of him taking any discount is best disregarded…
  13. And they were wonderful games he’ll treasure forever!
  14. The obvious solution is to sign Mike Lorenzen, coming off an All Star season. He might get more money than normal after last year, but you have to remember, he is also a RHH outfielder with a career OPS of .710, which is not much lower than the .724 Tommy Pham has posted over the last 3 seasons. So in that respect, Lorenzen is a bargain!
  15. But is water still wet!?!!?!?
  16. Maybe he loves barbecue. So both Texas as St. Louis are in play while he waits for Nashville to get a team…
  17. Maybe because it’s the status quo? Maybe because with no state income taxes it’s worth more? Maybe he wants another ring?
  18. The only time I ever wanted Myers was in a one-for-one deal for Price before the 2020 season…
  19. And he got a chance without having a Cy Young!
  20. Absolutely not. Which is why I never think of it as am option. I do recall one pitcher - I think it was Rick White, but I’m a not sure, taking a deal with a team (St. Louis?) because there was a special school in that city his son needed. But I also recall that pitcher working out his own deal without an agent…
  21. If Bauer actually is innocent - something that remains possible - at this point he’s just bad PR. Most of his “other issues” seem to be that the one thing he does better than pitch is be a complete and insufferable *******, a character trait he has no issues owning. However, it’s also perfectly legal…
  22. Once Tommy Pham becomes a candidate, how far away are Garrett Cooper, Wil Myers and Trey Mancini?
  23. You would have to ask Montgomery himself. But I doubt he’ll take less money to play anywhere; players don’t hire Scott Boras so they can take less money…
  24. Interesting thought. Hoskins hasn’t played outfield since 2018 and I’d still prefer him out there over Soler.
  25. We’ve already tried everyone in that post except Grichuk…
