  1. Bauer is a modern day Keyser Soze…
  2. The important thing here is you’re giving credit to scenarios that have never happened. While no one is saying 78-84 is good, since the creation of the current divisional alignment, only one team (2005 Washington Nationals) has won more games and come in last. Only 3 teams have won exactly 78 games and come in last - the Red Sox all three times. No one is saying 78-84 is good. But, abundant pessimism, it actually isn’t horrible and it certainly isn’t hopeless. It’s basically a .500 team. And teams have gone from far worse records to World Series titles in one season…
  3. Old Red only allows his topics and his sides of them! And he loves to repeatedly discredit people by bringing up stuff they said in the past, sometimes even changing the context. But whatever you do, don’t do this stuff to him! That’s not fair!
  4. And is it the truth or not?
  5. Where has anyone lamented playing in the AL East? Acknowledging it isn’t whining…
  6. They were above .500 against NY and Toronto even after September. And even counting the 1-7 record with Tampa, they were over .500 against the AL East prior to September. This is a big reason why Bloom’s White flag at the deadline was so bad…
  7. Yeah!! That would be like constantly refuting a 78-84 record by making sure m the team only gets referred to as a “last place” team! Because all last place teams are equal, be they 78-84 or 50-112!
  8. Or 76-86 if Bo Bichette knew how to run the bases…
  9. Once again Old Red chastises a fan for being excited about the team. The Sox did have a good record against those divisional foes all year long. Had you decided not to turn off when the team was playing will you might have noticed that…
  10. Nobody is whining about it. Except you, all through 2022 any time add none pointed out their record outside the division…
  11. But until then the Sox has been playing very well against the teams in their division…
  12. And resorting to using Matt Dermody and Tayler Scott as starting pitchers…
  13. The Sox did play on the toughest division…
  14. Other than hindsight, why would the Sox have signed Kyle Gibson over Kluber?
  15. A simple 13-14 September and they do…
  16. 57-54 extrapolates out to an 83 win team…
  17. The pessimistic viewpoint is always that the 24 game sample is reality and the 138 game sample was the outlier. The Sox are not the horrible team many claim they are. But it’s hard to see them taking the AL East. Then again, who said “Baltimore!!” twelve months ago?
  18. Nothing is close right now. Scott thinks I can get more out of them…
  19. At this point, Bauer is just message board fodder. The chances of him pitching for any team in MLB are probably less than the chances of me doing so. (My record is clean, but my “fastball” couldn’t get a speeding ticket on the Pike, and I mean East of Worcester.)
  20. The way I see it, Duran is the opening day centerfielder. Since they’re probably not getting Soler, Duvall, etc. Abreu looks to start in RF with O’Neill in LF. Since I don’t they would use two rookies right away, Rafaela starts in Worcester. I do agree there is some fun potential in Duran. I loved how any ball hit into the outfield that a fielder had to take the lateral steps to get went for extra bases. But I am somewhat tempered by his very unsustainable .381 BABIP…
  21. If they didn’t pay, they’d probably just get a player who hit his ceiling in AA. And there’s no guarantee that the $17mill they saved would be spent on anyone. I’d rather pay Sale to pitch for Atlanta than trade him for nothing so Henry can start financing his own personal RWGS (Rich White Guy Spaceship)…
  22. I don’t mind that they actually got something for Sale. I think Grissom has serious potential. Next year’s free agent pitchers are far more intriguing to me, but I don’t get worried about this while Snell and Montgomery are still unsigned. Believe it or not, Boston is still an option for either, and will be until each signs elsewhere. Sure we believe Kennedy when he says they’re done spending. Why? No one believed Werner when he said “full throttle”…
  23. I hear Robert Mugabe has been working on his cutter...
  24. Clearly no one is. He’s been available for over a year…
