  1. Some of the OTM guys do get access to the Sox front office. Seth Mnookin, for example, used to actually deal with FO personnel…
  2. Well, they extended Sale when he was battling with injuries. Grissom’s injury is just bad luck right now and really doesn’t make that trade look worse…
  3. I will say when the Sox were initially trying to extend Devers, they offered him a contract similar to the one Matt Olson had agreed to with Atlanta, since they envisioned Devers eventually moving to 1b. They had the right idea at one point, but they don’t seem to want to actually do anything about their bad defense beyond hope it miraculously improves…
  4. Why would he?
  5. I believe them. I just think they will have an interpretation about when the “time is right” that I might not agree with…
  6. Arroyo in RF was Cora’s choice, and Arroyo want the starter. Not the same thing. Franchy at 1b was a questionable call all around. The man clearly belonged in the OF if he was getting on the field at all. But this is true from the bottom up that this team has been making a lot of questionable defensive calls on the roster and in the lineup. So they probably will use Valdez at 2b while Grissom is out. Apparently the Boston front office and coaching staff like to pride themselves for trotting out an infield that couldn’t catch a cold if they were naked in Norway…
  7. That would be a very questionable attitude from the Sox front office given how last year played out. Of course at least you must then agree with me that this poor defense is really a choice to here making…
  8. Great. That should round out the questionable infield defense perfectly. I wish Cora would just set that guy’s glove on fire. But if he’s truly thinks this guy is an option, then that’s on Cora and his extremely questionable valuation of infield defense, an odd trait for a former infielder…
  9. None of that is remotely true. Keeping Devers at third base is 100% a choice. Using the DH spot to bury his glove is absolutely an option that has been there since 1973. And this is just one way to rectify this situation that didn’t involve making a trade…
  10. No. Rafaela’s versatility is best left under glass that’s only broken in case of emergency. If Duran is the opening day CF, Rafaela can return to Polar Park for a while. Of course, it’s also possible (likely?) Rafaela is the opening day CF with Duran in LF and Abreu returning to Worcester. In which case, Reyes is the makeshift 2b and Hamilton opens the season on the bench…
  11. Disagree on whether or not it should have. But some of us think defense is more important than RBIs. Maybe you’ll be much happier to watch the Sox struggle defensively at certain positions than I will be. After all, you not only like Devers as a defensive option at 3b, but wanted the Sox to re-sign Turner thus forcing Yoshida back into LF. At that point, why even have a defense?
  12. So therefore you find it necessary to stop any further discussion on the topic? If you want to post about something else, start the conversation for once rather than telling everyone what you don’t want to talk about and playing Old Schooler Board Censor…
  13. What if it’s just one guy’s position? You know, like it is in this case?
  14. In-house candidates already on the 40 man roster are Pablo Reyes, David Hamilton and Ceddanne Rafaela. Most likely, Reyes starts and Hamilton takes the utility infielder role. I doubt any moves happen, since it doesn’t look like a long term solution is needed yet…
  15. Mondesi isn’t a scrub. But as Bloom should have known, when the problem is injured middle infielders, the oft-injured Mondesi is not the solution…
  16. Did he know at the time Chapman could be had for Giolito money?
  17. It’s possible and even likely, although we really don’t know what money was talked about when Breslow ruled out Chapman. But if you want to improve the pitching, improving the defense can improve all the pitching, not just one rotation slot. And maybe the Sox simply don’t love Montgomery or Snell as much as we fans want them to…
  18. Depends on Cora. He might just want a high-spending one so he can get credit for making them good. The Dodgers have been to the postseason ten straight years now. It’s easier to f*** that up than it is to take it to the next level…
  19. Ugh… https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/vaughn-grissom-likely-to-miss-opening-day-due-to-groin-strain.html
  20. Mets might be another consideration…
  21. https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/red-sox-third-base-outlook-rafael-devers-defense-must-improve-in-2024/584163/ A little more mainstream for you?
  22. Yes for the limited few with a third baseman ranked in the bottom three and that have the money (not budget, money) to easily afford him…
  23. And a column on overthemonster.com. Twitter? Really?
  24. And I have uncovered his true identity https://www.overthemonster.com/2023/8/23/23840932/when-does-rafael-devers-become-a-full-time-dh-boston-red-sox-third-baseman-red-sox-analysis
