  1. You are all about the age discrimination. Next thing you know, you’ll be telling us women have no place in MLB…
  2. If the Twins move Lopez, would they still want to move Ryan and/or Ober? Lopez’ contract was written to be traded. 4 years $73.5 mill, but a jump from $8mill in 2024 to $21.75mill in 2025. The Twins clearly don’t want to pay that bump. It’s like Sandy Alcantata’s contract - huge bump this year the Marlins do NOT want to pay. I suspect both will be marketed this off-season, and both might move. With one coming to Boston, hopefully. I know Alcsntara missed 2024 recovering from TJ, but I doubt the Marlins hold him and hope he rebuilds value. Recovery from TJ isn’t some big mystery anymore and it clearly scares no one. (Fellow Marlin Jesus Luzardo is recovering from back surgery and is more likely to get a chance to prove himself.) One of Lopez or Alcántara works for me. Both have talent and get paid enough that acquiring them shouldn’t be crazy, and both deals are short enough to not be huge problems…
  3. Trading is a tough method, because the Sox want everyone that other teams would ask for to be unyouchable. As far as I can tell, the only worthwhile players the Sox would move are Abreu and Hamilton. Nice players both, but would any team unloading pitching need a RF and a 2b? One strong possibility on all fronts is the Twins. Word on the cyber streets is they’re looking to move the contract of Pablo Lopez (3 years $65.2mill.) And the Twins also have vacancies in RF and 2b. (To be fair, they had the vacancy at 2b for most of not all of last season. And Lopez (38.6) is a good match for Abreu (30.3) and Hamilton (11.4).
  4. But on the bright side, Sam is a Full Throttle Liar…
  5. Well, let’s not write Martinez’ contract for him. And Tanner Scott is a LHRP. But the Sox would be better off taking advantage of some of the underrated players and extending Houck and Crawford as opposed to signing Burnes, Fried or Snell so they can have the privilege of being unable to pay for Houck’s better years because they’re still paying for Max Fried’s waning years…
  6. The thing is, opting him back in is less of a no-brainer than you think. If the Yankees do, his remaining contract would be the largest for a pitcher of his age, plus make it more difficult to retain Soto…
  7. Cancel my surprise. The Yankees can void his opt out by giving him an extra year at his $36mill AAV. This should have been expected…
  8. Gerrit Cole opts out!!! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/11/gerrit-cole-triggers-opt-out-in-deal-with-yankees.html I did NOT see that one coming!
  9. Hey it worked out great for all those Celtics’ fans who bet on the team right before they traded for Kevin Garnett, when odds went from something like 35-1 to 6-1 in a matter of hours…
  10. Crochet feels risky. For Abreu+, I’m in (as is everyone who doesn’t work for the White Sox), but for Campbell+, I’m hesitant. Im still fully on board with the Nick Martinez and Tanner Scott combo over either Burnes or Fried. And maybe Snell, too…
  11. If you like BTV, they say you can go a lot less for Crochet. He’s not worth as much as you think, and probably for these three reasons. 1. Only 2 years of control left. This is actually huge, and why pitchers like fellow 2024 breakout SPs Tanner Houck and Cristopher Sanchez are worth more in trades. 2. Crochet’s second half was miserable, with an ERA of 5.12. As this was his only season as a starter, how much does this guy really have? 3. One TJ already. A second one takes out his two remaining seasons…
  12. So four years of Duran coming off an MVP caliber season for two years of Crochet, because the first half of his first season as a starter was good?!! I like Crochet, but I wouldn’t give up Duran alone for him. Let alone adding Campbell. (Chicago, in full blown tank mode, likely wouldn’t want Duran anyway.) BTV gives Crochet a surplus value of $40.2mill. Campbell alone has a value of $38.6mill, and Duran had a surplus value of $71.4mill, meaning in this trade, the Sox give up $100mill for $40.2mill. And the BoSox have add a lesser prospect, too? BTV does equate Crochet in value to Kyle Teel ($40.4 mill)…
  13. Who cares about World Series odd in early November? What are they telling us? That this team has barely improved since October?!?
  14. No. On the bright side, he’s a good pitcher whose Twitter/X handle is @BuehlersDayOff21. On the downside, he’s only 30 and has already had TJ TWICE!!! No pitcher having a third one has ever pitched again.* Doubtful he gets a long deal, but even a 2-3 year contract stands a far too big of a chance at ending quickly in a pile of dead money and shattered hopes… *Johnny Venters did, but not very well and not for very long.
  15. But first sign Anthony to a deal similar to that of Jackson Chourio. If Milwaukee can afford it so can Boston
  16. I doubt Campbell is used in a reserve role, even if it means playing reasonably frequently. Soxprospects.com has/had him penciled in as the starting 2b at one point, and he might get that role. Although now the Sox have 3 good options with him, Hamilton and Grissom. As the only non-40 man player, he probably starts the year in Worcester and doesn’t finish it there…
  17. And both would have been better than what the Sox did. But in this thread, mvp proposed trading Duran and Abreu to sign Soto. I just provided equal value (on BTV’s model) trades for Duran and Abreu that would fill the pitching need and completed his proposal…
  18. Jarren Duran to Philly for Cristopher Sanchez. Two players coming off breakout years with multiple years of control and similar values on BTV. Philly is weak in CF and DD originally drafted Duran. Sanchez, even after an excellent season, is still only their #4 starter. Abreu to Minn for Johan Duran. Again, similar BTV values and Abreu has a similar skill set to Max Kepler, who is now FA. Plus the Twins OF depth took a small hit with the sudden retirement of Alex Kiriloff. Then sign Soto. Sox need a superstar to replace Mookie…
  19. I had Jhostnyxon as their third most likely to be protected, behind Fulmer and Dobbins. The only question is whether or not they protect 3. I’d think Jhostnyxon isn’t likely to be selected, as very few A ball players are. But we’ve all seen longer odds get taken, and some team like Oakland/Vegas/Sacramento/Narnia might simply because it’s such a low risk move…
  20. I left out the money because the only comment I heard from Teoscar’s camp was he wanted more years, not more years plus more money. He might have wanted both and explicitly told the Sox as much, but that wasn’t reported. If years mattered to him as much as the stories impressed upon us, they mattered more in Boston than in LA. That’s not a sign he wanted Boston…
  21. I got the impression DD turned to Sale and Bogaerts only after talks with Mookie broke down…
  22. Rebuild his value? He went from being a 2.8 bWAR player in 2022 to bring a 2.1 bWAR player in 2023 while playing in a ballpark that every CBO knows surpresses RHH. And at age 32, he is exiting his prime and that extra season of age becomes more limiting than a 0.7 bWAR decrease. If he wanted to rebuild his value, wouldn’t Fenway be a better place than LA for a RHH? Why not ask the Sox for ONE year instead of three?
  23. Last time the Sox offered Teoscar two years and he told them he needed three. Then the Dodgers offered him one year and he asked “where do I sign?” He gave harder criteria to the Sox - not a sign we’re on his Preferred Destination List…
  24. Teoscar didn’t want Boston last time…
