  1. Better to ruminate in the dugout than on the field…
  2. But most of the names on that list are probably unattainable. Dylan Cease? Woo? Jones? Ragans? Higher ceiling or not, that guys aren’t moving. Especially since all but Jones will likely be in the postseason chase…
  3. So Raffy is every player now?
  4. DRS is probably a better team measure, but OAA for the player…
  5. I have no idea how players feel about DH. I can see some not liking for various reasons, and others embracing it for various reasons. Some (many?) fans, on the other hand, seem to view the DH a bit differently. On this site and multiple others, it seems like a lot of fans think the DH is for “resting players”. Even saw one fan question Boston moving Devers to DH by asking “does Boston realize teams don’t have full time DHs any more?” Huh? What non-losing team doesn’t? Thinking the DH is for resting players is like thinking the closer role is for resting starters. DH is a position. They play every day. Yes it’s not for every player. What position is?
  6. The Sox are currently 9th in DRS and 22nd in OAA, up from 25th in DRS and 26th in OAA last year. Don’t confuse “improved” with “perfect”…
  7. Then well over 90% of the league has been “demoted” at some point, including every former high school shortstop (except for 30 of them, obviously) and every member of every bullpen ever (including former SP Mariano Rivera)…
  8. It’s also possible the Sox go the more traditional pending free agent route and look at pitchers like German Márquez, Tyler Anderson, Erick Fedde, Brandon Woodruff, etc. Maybe we can even get Chris Sale back! We still have Vaughn “Big Receipt” Grissom…
  9. Point? Here we have an article about the Sox looking for pitching less than 3 weeks after trading away Quinn Priester…
  10. DH is a position not a demotion. Is DH a greater demotion than moving him to 1b? After all, a huge chunk of the league’s first baseman (including Casas) are players who started out playing other positions but were moved to first base because they could hit, but not field and 1b is the easiest position to field…
  11. 1984 Rick Sutcliffe. Traded from Cleveland to the Cubs on June 13th. Made 20 starts for Chicago and won the NL Cy Young award and came in 4th in NL MVP voting. Im still confused about Luis Gil. Currently he has 2.073 years of service time, which is a lot (too much?) for last year’s Rookie of the Year winner. He pitched 7 MLB games from 2021-2023. Did he just accumulate 172 days on the roster while pitching those 7 games? And if so, why was he still eligible for ROY in 2024?
  12. Don’t tell me. Tell Cora and Breslow. Or maybe they could let him sit until his shoulder feels better…
  13. Masa is not DHing in Worcester because Roman Anthony has a sore shoulder and is occupying that slot. But Yoshida does have three options left, so he could be demoted…
  14. He can’t hit now because he can’t throw well enough to play LF and because he simply doesn’t hit enough to supplant Devers at DH…
  15. The Sox are 2-9 in games where either Hamilton or Sabol start, including 0-1 when both start…
  16. I think those higher arbitration costs are why many players don’t last 6 years…
  17. I think Grissom could cover Hamilton’s defense. Outside of 2b, Hamilton is a clear weakness with the globe. But what Grissom can’t cover is Hamilton’s pinch running skills, which are valuable in this Ghost Runner Era. Don’t underestimate Yoshida, whose biggest flaw is that he’s overpaid. He lead the Sox in every non-cumulative batting category vs RHP last year. He’s been a defensive liability, but not a player worth discarding immediately just because a couple players are posting good numbers down at that Worcester Launching Pad. There’s plenty of time at PA to get everyone in…
  18. But Criswell isnt the answer to any team’s search for pitching. Last year, he was one of the Sox top 5 SP, and they still only trotted him out 14 times. Every team already has at least one Criswell, and very few if any are looking for another…
  19. Most teams already have Criswell or two, and thats why they need a starter…
  20. I thought demoting Hamilton to activate Yoshida would keep the roster the same size. Are you saying Yoshida isn’t a full man? Is that a short joke?
  21. Blaming the utility infielder does seem a bit dicey. But I think the primary goal is to open a spot for Anthony…
  22. So… the top FOUR teams win three times as often as the bottom ONE team? Isn’t that a bit skewed?
  23. They might hold out until Yoshida returns, since he would likely get a 25 man roster spot. Yoshida to left, Duran to CF. Rafaela as a defensive replacement. Hamilton to Worcester…
  24. Do those sources have names or does their credibility rely on their CAPITALIZATION?
  25. Cut Breslow some slack. He was just getting started and is still relatively new to this whole “who do you extend” strategy. Not like the Sox FO has anyone on board who has any relevant experience and can help…
