  1. At some point, Martinez is going to have to simply take the best offer, whatever it is. Teams are apparently very reluctant to meet his demands. And if the teams who lost out on Cain yet thought him to be a better value, were all offering less than $80mill for 5 years. Now they are supposedly going to top $125mill over 5 years? For the player they deemed a worse value? And who plays a drastically different position?
  2. Even 3/4 of Pedroia is a very good 2b...
  3. Sadly, this might be the most accurate post in the history of talk sox...
  4. Especially after that crap haul for Stanton that was apparently so bad, even Boston could have topped it...
  5. Not likely. Trade Pedroia to pave the way for who? Marco Hernandez? Brock Holt? Another free agent who wants too much money and to play on another team anyway? If you're one of those people who only wants players who want to play in Boston, you would never get rid of this guy..
  6. Heavy metal fans prefer Gwar
  7. The entire trade was conditional on signing JD. Although I'd DFA Brentz anyway.
  8. This whole scenari suggests Dombrowski is not "all in" on trying to win this upcoming season. "All in" would have him meet Boras' demands, This is fine with me that he doesn't want to ruin 5 or 6 years (or more) from now with another bloated contract for a player who a late30's player barely justify starting. So... start those backup plans, DD. Before everyone else does...
  9. Sure multiple teams might be pursuing him. But who? With Cain, there was a lot of chatter linking him to several teams and multiple 4 year offers. That makes sense considering he signed a 5 year deal that was likely the best offer. With Martinez, the talk so far has been Boston and no one else. If Cain's agent had little issue letting his multiple 4 year offers be known publicly, and it secured his client a fifth guaranteed year, then why no similar reveal from Boras? Are you arguing Boras shouldn't be doing what is clearly best for his client?
  10. If this stalemate with Martinez continues, the Sox could and should grab Morrison (or Duda, if Morrison is unavailable), which makes Hanley's vesting option less likely to vest. So that $22million, plus the $25million not spent on Martinez (minus the cost of Morrison/Duda) could be put towards Machado or Harper. I feel like I've said this before. But if Dombrowski doesn't do anything different today, why should I?
  11. No one still trade anything worthwhile for Brentz. Do Bryce a favor and simply DFA him for the purposes giving him an unconditional release. ...
  12. He also shouldn't let this drag into spring training. If Martinez insists on more money, he can't showing up late for work. ...
  13. If Hosmer turned down that offer from San Diego, he should for Boras now. Turn down $20mill annually to live in the city in the USA? For a player who isn't exactly the best player?
  14. Yes but only 99 44/100% possible.
  15. Gardner had 2.6 fWAR in 2015 and 2.4 fWAR in 2016. Not bad seasons, but also not over 3 fWAR. ..
  16. I think we all know how this plays out. Martinez finally caves in and signs with Boston and then breaks his arm on opening day. Stop looking in one basket, DD...
  17. And Esteban Quiroz. Don't forget him. After all, he does represent 50% of Dombrowski 's work these past 11 weeks...
  18. Holt and Hernandez both have options. It could a case of one winning the starting job and the other heading to Pawtucket...
  19. Hey, if JD has better offers or offers he likes better, he can take them. If not and he settles for less, it won't reflect well on Boras. The Sox will have to settle for a lesser DH option for a year, but they will save for a good down payment for Manny Machado...
  20. I'm sure the Diamondbacks are all smiles and giggles over the prospect of swapping Pat Corbin for Jacoby Ellsbury. He can create that void in centerfield left there by AJ Pollock's (eventual) departure...
  21. And who would you move first and why?
  22. But would you trade 3 years of Bradley for one year of Salazar? How about two months of Salazar?
  23. But there is a big difference between giving up a good prospect and giving up a good prospect for 2 months of a new player. Epstein also dealt similarly ranked Eloy Jimenez, whom he presumably loved, but in return got several years of extremely underpriced Jose Quintana
  24. I'd have no problem if they brought Clay back, but 1 year is preferable to two. ..
  25. He shipped out two guys with value to upgrade. Adam Warren and Rashad Crawford were not a guys carrying a ton of value. The team already had the best record in the NL and was "winning now".
