But those same writers have called him - direct quote here - the biggest landmine in this free agent class. He will be massively overpaid and for far too long. He's already turned down seven years. And he will be a huge reason why the Sox have to let some younger players go eventually. I'd just assume go for the shorter deal and save up for Betts...

A Gold Glove caliber defender on a 3 year deal? Once someone actually signs, that contract might look really sweet. But as of now, there are about 180 unsigned free agents and only 66 days until the season opens. A lot of these players will retire (involuntarily?), but there is a lot of signing action that should start happening any day now. In theory. ..

Disagree. When someone points out "these players make too much," I don't get the counterargument "would you rather the money go to the owners?" Absolutely!!!! The owners are going to be the ones providing my entertainment during down years. How many players are going to do that? Id also rather see owners buy their own stadiums instead of begging for tax money ( unless the stadium is public). A free agent might help the team for a few years. Or he might hurt the team. But either way, many of them become insanely wealthy regardless of help or hindrance, and none of them will use that wealth for my (and your) entertainment. ..

Its disturbing because he hasn't done anything. It's one thing to have Martinez/Morrison held up by a slow market. But what is it about the market that's preventing him from talking to his own players?

Like I said, the problem is DD hasn't even started the process. I don't know how long a contract extension takes to negotiate - maybe minutes, maybe months - but that he hasn't even called his agent to say "I'd like to work something out" is the disturbing part. Unless he prefer Pomeranz walk after 2018..

Sadly, I am starting to find it easier to believe every day. I think his daily reminders from his Outlook Planner pop up and say "9AM - Call Scott. Verify status quo" "10AM to 5PM - Surf internet. See what other GMs are doing."

So.. why not at least start the process? I don't care when Pomeranz signs, but it's the complete lack of action that is troublesome. It's like Dombrowski fears calling Pomeranz' agent because he doesn't want to tie up the line in case Boras is trying to get through. (Hint - Dave. That's not how phones work any more.)

From taht article Drellich also tweets that although left-hander Drew Pomeranz is open to a long-term extension with the Red Sox, the two sides have not discussed one to date. The 29-year-old southpaw made 32 starts for Boston in 2017, pitching 173 2/3 innings of 3.32 ERA baseball. He’s set to become a free agent at the end of the season. I think this is what is the most frustrating. Let the Martinez negotiations drag out as long as it takes one way or the other. But that this whole thing has put EVERYTHING else on hold? I'm beginning to think that not only can DD not multitask, he can't even task all that well...
