  1. But would that have stopped Cora from platooning Williams, hyperbolically speaking?
  2. He’s their Roman Anthony. Bear in mind the A’s expect to open the 2028 season in Las Vegas and shed their small market economy. As Kurtz will either be in his first arb year that year or the next, they might not have as much fear about affording him as they would if they stayed in Oakland. Simply put, Kurtz is not a solution for the Sox any time soon…
  3. Except that most hitters reduce their chase rate by taking more pitches, which includes taking more strikes along with more balls. In the end, they often simply replace swinging third strikes with called third strikes…
  4. Or anyone else. His contract demands were never insane, but no one ever met them. San Diego had a couple team-friendly team options and they still declined him. Either his health history is very frightening or he is one insufferable SOB…
  5. No one talked about OPS in 1939. Stop ruining the hyperbolic examples…
  6. Does this attitude make the collapses more tolerable or just allow you to say “I told you so?” I get the George Will benefits of pessimism - that you’re constantly either proven correct or pleasantly surprised. But if you follow that credo, it does mean you’re prioritizing being proven correct over personal enjoyment. Personally, I’d rather enjoy the good times. The bad times are going to suck regardless of whether or not I expect them…
  7. As long as we have Cora, Abreu will be platooned. Cora has some religious convictions about letting left-handed hitters face left-handed pitchers if it can be avoided. If Cora had managed the Sox in the 1940s, I truly believe he would have platooned Ted Williams in LF with Pete Fox…
  8. Toro’s success was brief, as it is every year. But Romy has been a revelation…
  9. Well I did a Google search on “David Hamilton Luis Castillo trade” and my top match was a Talksox thread about Seattle exploring Castillo trades. David Hamilton did eventually get mentioned by drewski (who, as far as I know, works for neither team) but not so much as a legitimate proposal. And there were numerous replies from harmony extolling the virtues of Dylan Moore. I have serious doubts this trade was ever proposed by either team, and might just be something we fabricated here…
  10. No way they included Reynolds on that offer!!
  11. I know. Im excited for this team and they’ve made June and July fun. But I know the postseason is no guarantee and I also know their fate is not solely up to them. Not to mention, the term “collapse” gets thrown around a bit quickly. Certainly the 2011 Sox had an epic meltdown. But the most popular one is always 1978. Did that team really “collapse”? They won 99 games! They lost a big lead not solely because the wheels came totally off, but more because the Yankees played .750 baseball for nearly 3 months. Sure the Sox lost the head to head games, but the real damage was done in late July/early August where they had a rough stretch and the Yankees cut about 7 games off their lead. But they did bounce back, and it was the Sox who won the game to force the play off. At the time, it was their winningest season in over 30 years and their second highest win total since 1915. But because the Yankees played an other-worldly half-season, it’s considered a collapse…
  12. Dylan Moore didnt get a Gold Glove at 2b, and his award for utility player should have gone to Rafaela, who outperformed Moore on pretty much every metric…
  13. No link? No story? Not even a tweet? How did you find out? Were you in the room? Or get a call from Chris Cotillo?
  14. Can I get a link? It feels incomplete
  15. It’s a universal take for all athletes, save the rare 20-something dominating his Pop Warner league…
  16. The Mariners were never going to trade Luis Castillo for any package centered around Hamilton. I could see te being interested in Hamilton after last year. But not to the point of unloading Castillo. His contract wasn’t that bad and most important, hes been remarkably durable throughout his career…
  17. Why? He has options. You can get the same benefit for a lot less money by DFAing Nate Eaton. And if injuries become an issue, Yoshida is much better depth to have…
  18. Of course there have been more failures than rings. To what team does that not apply?
  19. Sweet deal for Anthony. He still gets to be a free agent by age 30…
  20. I think the most overused phrase concerning minor leaguers is the phrase “blocked prospect.” I’ve seen it used on A ball players, on pitchers and occasionally on players a stage ahead of a more highly ranked prospect. I mean, can a pitcher EVER be a blocked prospect? That said, Password is about as blocked as any prospect Ive ever seen. In AAA, and even if we are not counting Refsnyder, is fifth on the OF depth charts on the 40 man alone. 6th if we extend it to include DH. And barring unforeseen trades and injuries, no one is going anywhere for at least two years. And even then it’s only Yoshida. Yes Garcia is a Top 100 prospect, but that doesn’t make him some rare Earth precious metal. There’s like, what, 100 of them every year? Sure no one wants to give say the next Bagwell, but that doesn’t mean we need to devotedly clutch every future Garin Cecchini just to make sure. Im surprised he survived the deadline. Next I will be surprised if he survives the off-season…
  21. And what would they have accomplished at this point if they did acquire the infamous “#2 starter”?
  22. To be fair, Dustin May might meet that requirement.. Buehler has been worth -1.3bWAR with a 72 ERA+. May has been worth -0.3 bWAR with an 85 ERA+…
