Agree. Outside of Moncada, and even going back to include Guerra and Margot, a lot of fans justified the deals with "that might never pan out anyway." But panning out can be a serviceable minimum wage player who enables the Sox to keep Bogaerts, Betts and Bradley and whatever other overpriced players the Sox have...

Since arriving, Dombrowski has traded awayan impressive list of prospects. But let's not go overboard. In any BA Top 100 list, you have about 10 players give or take who go on to be star players. Another 30 who are serviceable starters, another 30 who are bench players, and 30 who never make MLB beyond maybe a September call up. Those of you from BDC might recognize this as Notin's First Law of Prospects or the 10-30-30-30 Rule. By the logic of this rule, we probably traded away one star, three other starters, some bench players and AAAA fodder. At most, four players we might miss. If it is 4, we did give up a lot. Quite a bit to give up 24 years of starting MLB service time, especially if 6 of them are from a star player. We better win a title or two to justify it. But it might be less than that...

And it will to some extent. Of course he's a victim of the numbers more so than actually pitching poorly sometimes. Last year he blew past the Guardians in the first, and if Chisenhall didn't hit a Pesky Pole home run that gets out of no other ballpark, he might have actually had a good outing. But as it wad thr post-season, there was a quick hook...

Keeping Buchholz and using the options on Rodriguez and Barnes makes the most sense. We won't be able to get a pitcher with that type of contract unless he sucks.. Last deadline the Twins decided it made sense to keep the remarkably inconsistent Ervin Santana because replacing him would be too difficult even at his price point. Look how much mediocre pitchers go for now. It only gets worse at the deadline, because that's not a desperation tine for sellers nearly as much as it is for buyers...

People make WAAAAAAAAY too big of a deal of post-season numbers like they are an indication of handling pressure when a lot of times they are nothing more than a handful of games spread out over several seasons. ..

It is possible that they all do bad or are hurt and hopefully someone elevates up. That comment did remind me of the 2003 ALCS against New York. The Sox lost the four games started by Pedro and Derek Lowe, but won the three games started by Wakefield and John Burkett. Not that Burkett outpitched Pedro that week...

What is your source here? Soxprospects.com has Kimbrel down for $13mill in 2017 and B-R has him for $13.5. This is probably why we don't get the sane figures. Inconsistent reporting...

He's still on the 40-man. But as he has options, he's probably far down the depth chart. Guys like Hembree, Abad, Eiias, and Ross who don't have options and are competing for one or two spots in the bullpen re in front of him. I do expect one or two of these guys to be moved. But they might simply be released if no deal can be found, and any deal that is won't be too big of one...

His role is pretty up in the air right now. I like him as a starter more than Pomeranz, but I think Pomeranz was acquired with him being a cheap starter in mind...

Doubtful the Sox bullpen comes in under $20 million. Kimbrel is $13 million by himself and if Buchholz returns to the bullpen he adds another $13.5million. But even without Clay, Ross, Thornburg, Abad, and Kelly are all up for arbitration. Pretty good chance they total up at least close to $7mill. I do disagree Dombrowski is bothered by this and working on the limit. He had options, like non-tendering Abad or Ross and keeping minimum wage Robby Scott, for example. He just didn't do them...

Which would be the stupidest option of all, because he would be paying Moreland $5mill to play for someone else. At that point, why not just keep him and have some actual depth? Do you think keeping Jeff Rutledge on the 25-man instead is that much more important? And before Dombrowski goes releasing Moreland, he should consider that option for Allen Craig, whom he has yet to release. Why is that?

True, but at that point it becomes his decision and not Dombrowski's.. And the longer we go into the off-season, the fewer starting first base options are left for him to approve. ..

In the last CBA, a newly signed free agent couldn't be traded without his approval prior to June 15, regardless of no trade protection. If the Sox do sign a DH, Rutledge will either be returned or a deal for him completed so he can go to Pawtucket. ...

Very true. The bigger question is who fills out the fifth spot. Unlike me, I think Dombrowski and Farrell view Pomeranz as a starter. This leaves one spot for Wright, Buchholz and Rodriguez. Given that he has options and that teams don't necessarily need 5 starters as heavily in April, I do think the unpopular move of devoting ERod to Pawtucket to start the season is very likely. This leaves Wright and Buchholz with one spot and the other likely in the bullpen. ..

Rick Hahn doesn't return my calls, but at some point you know he asked for Moncada, Kopech and Swihart. Probably Rodriguez as well. Look what he got Rizzo to give up for Adam Eaton. ...
