  1. What if he opts out and then sucks? Price's "value" to the Sox is largely related to His ability play baseball. Recently some others added players included Lugo and Swihart, among others.
  2. Its also potentially being more overblown in the media than it deserves. ..
  3. Made doubly interesting by the rumors that Russell may be short-lived in Chicago.
  4. The Cubs traded their best prospect last year (plus others) for a rental closer when they already had a guy (Hector Rondon) doing a very good job in the role....
  5. 1. If Price feuding with Eckersley is a big deal, Escobar is a bad fit. He has a reputation for leaving trail of unpleasantness wherever he goes. 2. The value of prospects has plummeted in recent years. While I believe Escobar to be a rental, he's very likely to be pricier than people realize. 3. With Jhonny Peralta already in house and Marrero not costing games, the urgency isn't there...
  6. Exactly. I don't get why people call them "fake news" or whatever (although the use of that term in this thread may have been a poke at President Trump, but many others have voiced similar opinions not in jest.) Do these people have a different definition of the word the "rumors" than I do?
  7. I believe he means the Sox all expected Price to suck for a few years on his deal, and the hope was the early years would make the later ones not matter....
  8. I have a lot of issues with the Price signing, and not one of them involves whether or not he gets along with Dennis Eckersley...
  9. With Hanley a physical question mark, maybe the Sox should look into Miguel Montero once he clears waivers. Certainly not as a catcher, where the Sox are solid defensively. But as a DH. Montero is a lousy catcher and apparently not much of a teammate (although, technically, he was right about Arrieta), but he can hit (112 OPS+ this year). Some team is going to get him for a pro-rated league minimum salary, with the Cubs picking up the tab. Probably Tampa...
  10. I had a pretty good run of suggesting low profile players the Sox should have looked at. The two they finally did panned out pretty well - Cody Ross and Rick Porcello. Of course plenty of others went on to abject failure on other teams. Lately every deal I hate has been working out. And everyone I liked has flopped. I guess that makes it time to start hating on Jhonny Peralta. ..
  11. Only if the Sox can also include Rusney Castillo plus a bad contract to be named later...
  12. Yet they might be willing to take Sandoval (plus prospects) if it meant they could unload Miguel Cabrera, who is still owed about $198million and doesn't have an OPS above .800. And the one guy who actually thought giving a 32 year old future Hall of Famer an 8 year $240mill contract was a good idea is currently running y he Sox
  13. Probably only need him for 6 weeks..
  14. Are the Sox winning 62% of Sandoval's starts?
  15. Where in Illinois? NW burbs here. Worst name I've seen was a cashier at a supermarket in Palatine. Her name was apparently pronounced "Shi-THEED"but the spelling on her nametag read "********"..
  16. Marrero's offense is practically non-existent, but the Sox are 18-11 when he starts and 25-23 when he doesn't. ..
  17. It wasn't a good example of the point AND was making. But Bellhorn's point about not being able to find bad stats about Trout was spot on. I guess you did inadvertently prove that...
  18. Third base has sucked for the Sox since Mike Lowell retired. My point is I always see things like "Bogaerts doesn't hit enough to play thIrd" or "Swihart dOesn't hit enough for a left fIelder" and that's a pretty weak way to pick a position. Base position on defensive ability, and offense just needs to surpass defense....
  19. Ah but there is a big difference between "we need offense" and "Player X doesn't hit enough to play third base."
  20. I was never a Shaw fan, but Sandoval made me one...
  21. That's not a statistic; that's supposition...
  22. I know we all grew up learning otherwise, but defensive positions are actually best determined by defensive skills, not offensive ones...
  23. It's not about Bogaerts being happy. Don't confusr happy with comfortable. I never heard anyone say Hanley was not happy in left field.
  24. Bryce isn't on the 40-man
  25. He also has 58 at bats through roughly 58 games..
