  1. I can agree with this. My biggest gripe about Cherington was that he would never trade any prospects....
  2. Well, he's not at fault for the team not winning, unless you fault him for the repeated collapses of his historically weak bullpens. But the weak farm system and the horrific contracts he gave to players like Cabrera and Verlander, could cripple that franchise for years, especially if the team continues to play poorly, which will likely negatively impact attendance and in turn, earnings. This means their spending will be capped by the debt-equity ratio of the CBA. So he left a team with no farm system and likely handicapped their ability to pay for free agents. Not a good spot...
  3. You do realize DD was fired for leaving the Tigers in a similar position?
  4. So you're saying Dombrowski needs to prioritize the future of the utility infielder position over current needs for relief and offense? Lin is far from untouchable.
  5. Their MLB Comparisons were usually pretty optimistic, to be kind. Thankfully they stopped doing them.
  6. So would the Sox have been better off letting Fister give up 6 runs yesterday instead?
  7. The contract thr Yankees gave Miller that year was considered to be a pretty crazy one at the time for a non-closing reliever. Most teams, including the Sox, were not ready to pay $32mill over 4 years for a set up guy.
  8. Unless the main issue is the team is scoring too many runs, Bryce Brentz is not the solution for any offensive problem...
  9. Hopefully Nick was kidding. Otherwise that suggestion is just like George Constanza when he worked for the Yankees. "I figured out how we can get Bonds and Griffey!! And we wouldn't have to give up that much! !!" The more I think about it, the Alonso/Devers solution is the best solution so far....
  10. Leon and Vazquez are both good defensive catchers, but I give the edge to Vazquez. I really don't care if either hit. Someone has to bat ninth. Upgrade the top eight somewhere. Specifically 1b...
  11. You also have to bear in mind he was their emergency backup Luis Basabe and they still kept their main one...
  12. We'll so far Dombrowski's mid-season moves this year have been to acquire his former Tigers' players like Fister and Peralta. Does this mean our 3b solution is going to be Brandon Inge?
  13. The reality has become prospects aren't worth what they were worth a few years ago. Is David Phelps worth four minor leaguers?
  14. So this proposal is the Sox trade former Giant prospect Heath Hembree, who is the rough equivalent of Giants RHRP and former Sox prospect Hunter Strickland, for Giants prospect Chris Shaw to replace Sam Travis, which wouldn't be necessary if the Sox had just kept Travis Shaw? I'm not confused...
  15. Like I said, I get not wanting to pay for Harrison. But the Flores/Nunez/Rivera trio is barely an upgrade over Holt and Marrero, if not a step down. Harrison is light years better thsn any of them. I like Moustakas, too, but at least Harrison is controlled beyond this season.
  16. Nunez, Flores or Rivera over Harrison?!?!?! If it's about the cost, I get that. But Harrison is an All Star while these other three all are or should be utility infielders...
  17. Solarte is a very good player buried in the obscurity of San Diego. But I thought he was on the DL...
  18. Not all blown saves are losses. In fact a team can get multiple blown saves in one game and still win...
  19. Actually I would plop Moreland on the bench in that scenario. If Devers struggled mightily, then Frazier could replace him at third...
  20. 1. Call up Devers and demote Marrero. 2. Make a trade for Todd Frazier, assuming the White Sox don't want the moon. Chavis and Ockimey? Frazier is really the smart choice because he could take over for either Devers or Moreland if needed to. 3. Add a bullpen arm. Not Robertson. Hopefully we finally see Carson Smith, but what does anyone really expect from a guy who hasn't thrown a pitch in 16 months. 4. A depth starter might not be a bad way to go. I'd hate to see a meaningful September game started by Hector Velasquez or Doug Fister. This isn't an urgent need now. But if the White Sox want Brian Johnson for Frazier, it could escalate. ...
  21. I would argue Bogaerts is the most expendable. He has the least control and his defense at short is more suspect than Benintendi's is in left...
  22. Yes but the only teams that might be interested in Hanley would be contending teams. A team in contention isn't going to trade a hitter for Hanley. Not a hitter we want anyway. Basically this proposal was that the Sox need to trade Hanley for a hitter better than Hanley. That's not going to happen. ..
  23. Because he's a step up from Sandoval?
  24. Prado to the DL with a knee sprain. I guess we can ignore those rumors. Frazier talks probably intensify, but why does the media insist he'll be so cheap?
  25. Why wouldn't a Martinez acquisition simply return Hanley to 1b?
