  1. The time for that type of gamble is back in March. Right now Pounder is far, far more likely to be a problem than a solution. ...
  2. There's a two way street. You also need to figure out how many extra wins, and yes there are some. The team that has run into the second most outs on the bases is Houston, whose offense boasts 3 MVP candidates. If the Sox had that type of firepower, I could see questioning their baserunning. But they don't, and the aggressive baserunning might be doing more good than you realize. And focusing on the outs as stupidity while ignoring the safe plays doesn't change this...
  3. Who remembers Tyrion's wedding? Probably the leasy exciting wedding in the show by body count...
  4. Of course one could argue that censoring history is the most likely path to repeating it... pas
  5. Exactly. I would imagine there were a few racists among the Founding Fathers, especially the ones who owned slaves. Should we close down the USA and revert to being a British colony?
  6. I'd rather have a "What the f*** is This?!?" button
  7. Wild Card games are playoff games. In fact, two teams that tie for a final wild card spot would have to play an additional regular season game in order to determine which one goes to the wild card game. Given how tight the AL is this year, we might see that actually happen..
  8. Herb Washington didn't work out as a pinch runner with amazing speed. But he remains the only player in MLB history to appear in 100 games without ever batting,, fielding, or pitching. Also he's the only player ever to have his position listed as "PR" on his Topps baseball card. I believe former Blue Jay outfielder Junior Felix was also a track runner who was recruited for his speed. But he was clearly more athletic and had more baseball skills than Washington. Also that story could be completely false...
  9. But you said he wouldn't deal Stanton to Boston for fear of how Yankee fans will react. I say not only will he not consider Yankees fans opinion and do what's best for Miami, but Yankee fans wouldn't care. If anything, they'd be angry at Cashman for letting it happen. And that does count the extremity regard they hold for Cashman right now...
  10. While true about the deal, Stanton really need not do much to transition to 1b. He played the position in the minors before being switched to OF.
  11. Jeter owns the Marlins, not the Yankees. He will make decisions based on what is best for his current team and won't care about his former one. And be realistic. Jeter could urinate all over a statue of Babe Ruth and broadcast it on the YES network and Yankee fans would still love him...
  12. The Marlins don't want all the Sox contracts you don't like for Stanton. The one they might not mind is actually Castillo, because Cubans do have a certain marketing appeal in Miami. But the rest of that trade would have to involve giving up players you prefer to keep. Think of giving up three from Devers, Benintendi Groome, and Chavis. Otherwise if the Marlins are going to be spending all that money, they would just assume spend it on Stanton. If you wete GM of the Marlins, would you trade the best hitter in franchise history for Price, Hanley (who wore out his welcome in that city once already) and others? If you would make that deal, any chance the Marlins will hire you in the next 3 days?
  13. The only reason saves matter is because fans overvalue them...
  14. He's a utility infielder. How long were people going to be addicted to him and pretend his defensive versatility was such a rare and irreplaceable commodity? If only Randy Kutcher got this kind of love...
  15. And that was good use of Kimbrel in a non-save situation. Is it possible Farrell learned from his mistake the other night?
  16. Addison Reed is the new Greg Gagne
  17. He can also tell you the advantages of the left nut over the right one when it comes to luxury tax implications..
  18. This sounds like a job for the WAPM..
  19. True if you live and die by batting average, home runs and RBI.. Not true if you look at BABIP, LD% and all the other numbers available...
  20. Perfectly stated...
  21. The logic, which certainly does exist with some managers, that closers are "paid for saves", it's akin to starting players just because they make more money. Which means Sandoval should be starting over Devers for the next two seasons. However last year, Terry Francona introduced the idea of using the best reliever, Andrew Miller, when the game wad on the line, going so far as to occasionally give him the save over the closer Cody Allen. THIS is the smarter way to run the bullpen. And why we really need Francona back...
  22. Changing leagues should give him an advantage, since fewer hitters are used to him. As he is a late inning reliever, the whole "DH" thing is moot. I'd bet he never faced a pitcher in his entire NL career...
  23. The entire point was that Kimbrel should have been used in the eighth once Reed put the game in jeopardy. If Kimbrel could have gotten out of the eighth - and no Sox reliever was more likely to - than anyone else could have pitched the ninth. Workman has barely pitched in the past 3 years and is much more of a question than answer at this point...
  24. Brentz has struck out in 25% of his at bats in AAA. How much of an upgrade is he over a 0.0 fWAR player?
  25. I have no problem replacing Young. I just do think Brentz is any better, and his good season in AAA is more an argument against him than for him, considering how long he took to adjust to AAA pitching. If th e Sox promote him now, will they reap the benefits in 2022? I'd actually rather see Rusney Castillo get the shot, but that isn't happening this year. Although it might next season. For this year, the Sox probably need to find a cheaper Ryan Raburn type lefty masher on the waiver wire. Raburn himself, being in Washington, won't be available. But you get the idea...
