  1. Look at all of 'em!!! Although technically I think it's only 113.
  2. Hanley is an example of how bad outfield defense can impact a game/season. While Stanton isn't that bad, is the drop off from Bradley to Stanton a similar magnitude?
  3. He won't be given away, but the talent might not be so elite. And it certainly won't requre a top prospect. Otherwise the Sox would not be involved. Nut both the duration and sticking point are issues. The overall commitment is $300mill, and the only reason he got that deal in the first place was to appease him after complaints from a previous fire sale (in the wake of the Josj Johnson trade). Or do you actually think the Marlins care about their fans and baseball team now?
  4. If its an overall improvement, yes you do it. But why is it Sox fans only look at 3 out of 115 World Series as the "How to" for team building? Plent of teams have won a WS without a legitimate big home run bat like Ortiz, Manny or Stanton. That said, I prefer Stanton to Martinez...
  5. Based on what? Bradley makes multiple plays every game. Stanton homers one more time once every 4 games. How many runs did Hanley cost the Sox in LF in 2015?
  6. Of course we're giving up top talent and paying the whole contract. Have you forgotten who our GM is? He'll offer Benintendi and Rodriguez and not only take on Stanton's whole contract, he'll take back Prado too...
  7. That's a clear fraud. There's no such thing as a Marlins' fan..
  8. They teally don't need one. They were still one of the top scoring teams without one. That's just the quick easy fix. Nine teams in the AL hit more home runs than Boston and still scored fewer runs. Home runs are exciting and fun, but any upgrade over Mitch Moreland will be an improvement. But I hope it isn't Hosmer. Carlos Santana? Yes. Hosmer? No...
  9. They apparently have made a grwat offer, supposedly including Luke Weaver. Big obstacle appears to be Stanton and his expressed desire to go to either coast...
  10. Must be a Sox fan "This team won over 180 games and two division titles in the past two years!! IT MUST BE TORN DOWN!! COMPLETELY AND ABSOLUTELY! !!" Given that number of traded I'm guessing this blogger is either Jerry DiPoto or a close relstive
  11. I'd just assume leave both out and send Bradley. Just because the Cubs want Benintendi doesn't mean they'd take no one else. And the Sox need someone who is pre-arbitration. The Marlins might be reluctant to include Volquez. Not sure. But no one wants Prado and they do have a lot of big, ugly contracts. Ziegler being another. ..
  12. Benintendi was number 26 on Fangraphs trade value list. Russell was 40. Bradley 46. 40 for 46 seemed like the most even swap. If the Cubs want Benintendi, it will cost them a lot more than just Addison Russell. If Castillo is removed, I'd also take out Prado. Personally I prefer Castillo to Prado, who is pretty much done and owed $28mill over the next two years. Castillo ($37mill over the next 3) is owed more for longer, but also is more likely to contribute. Neither is a key component in the trade. I do figure since Castillo is at least a decent defensive player, he can add value with his glove. Prado is now an oft-injured worn down player who provided negative value in a quarter of a season last year Personally I'd rather have Castillo among the two. So I am assuming Miami also would. Both can be left out...
  13. Crazy impossible three way trade that will never happen Cubs get: Jackie Bradley Marlins get: Addison Russell, Michael Chavis and Rusney Castillo Red Sox get: Giancarlo Stanton, Edinson Vazquez and Martin Prado Marlins free tons of money, even with taking back Castillo, whose Cuban heritage is a plus for them. (As is his defense.) They also get 3 arbitration years of a very good tshortstop. And a good 3b prospect. Cubs fill the biggest hole in their lineup with a guy their FO drafted and do so without dropping $70-80 mill on Lorenzo Cain. Sox get a new LF, SP, and Prado, who is otherwise immovable to the Marlins. A lot of money, although Volquez has only one year left. Prado really can't play 2b anymore and might end up platooning at first with either an internal candidate (Swihart? ) or a cheap external one (non-tender candidate CJ Cron?) I might be too far outside the box here. Where's that box again?
  14. Really the only question is Price. ERod is out for a while. Porcello probably is a 3-4 starter. Pomeranz was equally good in 2016 as he was in 2017. And none of these guys is as big of a question mark as Cueto. ..
  15. Cueto is owed like $92million over the next 4 seasons and is coming off a season where he had a 4.52ERA in a National League pitcher's park. No way he opts out and no way is he worth trading for. The Sox shouldn't even trade Rusney Castillo for him straight up. ...
  16. Actually Jon Lester and Matt Cain (when he was good) spent years living in the top sliver of the strike zone doing just that...
  17. Based on what? Hope? Or are you saying that Martinez will struggle to maintain an .800 OPS after 3 years? The latter point is probably true and the entire point I wss making. Martinez is a short term answer thst requires a long term commitment. And also likely requires breaking up one of the biggest strengths on this team. Let him sign elsewhere...
  18. JD is the headliner bat on the market. But he's the type of hitter that whoever signs will regret and try to trade in 3 or 4 years. He soon turns 31 years old, basically the same age Hanley Ramirez was when he signed in Boston. Prior to Boston, Hanley had a better career than JD. He came here for fewer years and less money than JD wants. And most fans want his shorter deal gone already, to the point where many advocate signing Lucas Duda or Logan Morrison in order to steal playing time and stop Hanley's option from vesting...
  19. If Jay Bruce gets that, I will declare free agency for myself and make a reasonable demand of $20mill for 3 years..
  20. Right. Because eye witness testimony is so reliable. So please tell me how watching Bogaerts 162 times and no other shortstop for more than 3 consecutive games should lead one to conclude Bogaerts is average or above average or below average? How many times did you see Cain and Buxton (whose name you didn't even know) before you decided they were clearly inferior to Bradley defensively?
  21. Sign Santana. Maybe fill in the blanks in the 7-10 starting pitcher spots somehow. Hopefully stop taking stupid 1980's style suggestions like "Get a left-handed reliever." I'm OK with a lefty reliever. But not one who is only acquired because he is left-handed. Get a stopgap 2B in case Hernandez isn't ready or doesn't live up to the task.
  22. Dyson? Defensive CF is not something the Sox need. Despite Dojii's comps, Dyson is basically Rusney Castillo (1.4 fWAR in roughly 1/2 a season). Pay Dyson the project $12mill and the two are interchangeable...
  23. Agree, which is why I don't want him. Also per MLB Network today, Boras has set the price at $200 mill. I'd just assume go get Stanton, who is far better and has about the same health track record. ..
  24. I'd agree with 8 names on that list, but it's littered with too many guys who simply are not starting shortstops, including Javier Baez, who was listed twice. ..
  25. Devers winning a Gold Glove seems like a stretch, and isn't even the biggest stretch. Holt is an awful defensive 2b. To be blunt, he's an awful defensive infielder. Hanley was passable at first, but might be physically unable to handle the position very often. Martinez at first is as unknown as it gets. And really, if he sees himself as an outfielder, might be a deal breaker. Wherever he goes is his choice....
