  1. I think Rusney should have a future in MLB, but the Sox are not going to gamble on him this season given the potential penalties they would face from the luxury tax should they call him up. Next season is still in play for Castillo, but he will be another year older and runs the risk of declining past the point of usefulness. He is more likely to be nothing more than the highest paid player in the International League for a few more years. ..

They do get reviews from the league office. But also bear in mind, a lot of what we think are the rules are solely umpire calls. For example, ask any amateur coach about what happens when a player making a taf drops the ball and he will tell you the runner is safe. That's not the rule. The rule is it becomes the umpires call if the runner is out or not. (Many umpires do use the guideline that the runner is safe when the ball is dropped during a tag, but the rule is that is it their call.)
  3. Or see if thre is an injury between now and then. Any deals made for slight upgrades between now and the deadline likely deplete the Sox limited trade resources unnecessarily...
  4. The more optimistic comp for an older player in the minors might be Daniel Nava or Matt Carpenter. ..
  5. Mostly they buy the higher potential prospects time by taking the occasional call up. That and they have falling spring training numbers that make fans feel they have true potential. Now Filia might be a legit prospect. But a huge part of me thinks that if he wad, DiPoto might not have parted with him so quickly. ..
  6. Oh God. Enough with these unrealistic trade proposals. It would need to be at least $75 bucks and an Amazon gift card...
  7. Exactly. A pitcher can be in very different health each year with various lingering pains that affect performance. Or can be at very different stages of his career and/or relying on different pitches. And one bad start can make it all look bad, especially with very few opportunities over very long stretches. Or in some cases, one bad inning...
  8. When asked about the collapse of the 2011 team, he said it was "God's will." That absolutely rubbed some Puerto pne the wrong way, despite that his religious commentary should be untouchable if it's not offensive. ..
  9. You're missing the point. You cite Verlander, but for a huge portion of his career he actually was not good in the post season. A few yearsvaho, you would be heading his name along wIth Price. Porcello has made two career post-season starts since he was 22 years old. That's a really small sample size to make any jugdments on...
  10. How did that Beckett extension work out?
  11. So are you saying you think the Sox would be better off signing Charlie Morton instead of Chris Sale? As said before, paying for the post-season gets you Pablo Sandoval. ..
  12. if the Sox trade Bradley and his $6.1mill salary and then promote Castillo and his$11.7mill salary, they only increase payroll by $5.6mill, which is easily under the payroll penalty limits. Doesn't leave much room for other upgrades. Or include the salary of any player acquired for Bradley. ..
  13. I know the Sox are not going to be able to replace Betts during stretches where he is injured. But they have to be able to do better than Swihart. He really is a waste of a roster spot. ...
  14. And there's really no point in trading him. They'd either need another outfielder or need a DH. Bury him best the back of the order
  15. He caused his own problems today. For all of his terrific control, he walked 3 hitters today. Two of them scored, the third drove in a run...
  16. If he is easily replaceable, why is he good trade bait?
  17. What's your point? This team has also made the last two post-seasons and only one other American League team can make that claim. Post-seasons can be heavily dependant on who gets hot, something any Major Leaguer is capable of doing...
  18. Disagree. I'm sure i can find a few World Series champions with weak bottoms of the order. The Sox are a pitching-first team right now...
  19. And probably not overly excited about defensive center fielders...
  20. But are they prioritizing his confidence or just seeing how he pitches? This isn't a team that is strategizing how to win. They want their young guys throwing well. If Rodon retires Martinez, wouldn't that bolster his confidence? And if he fails, big deal. The guy is crushing everyone anyway. Teams more concerned with winning will pitch around Martinez. But right now, the Sox are not playing those teams. ..
  21. And the idea of trading Bradley to the Reds for Gennett is silly. Not only do the Reds have center field defense pretty well taken care of, but then the Sox have no one to replace Martinez at DH if he goes to left field. So the Sox weaken the defense and move one of Holt or Nunez to bench so they can get more at bats for Swihart or Travis? This doesn't seem like a good plan to me...
  22. Moustakas is already in to his plate appearances incentive bonuses and has a $1mill buyout as opposed to Freese, whose base salary is $4.25mill with a $500k buyout. Moustakas is more expensive, but it's a lot closer than I realized. The only advantage to Freese is the comparable dirt cheap asking price..
  23. Well, the tank mode White Sox are probably more into seeing how their younger and injured pitchers are coming along thsn worrying about whether or not JD Martinez beats them. What do they learn about Rodan's recovery if he walks Martinez?
  24. And Devers looks pretty weak this year. While demoting him might not be the best thing for Devers, playing him everyday might not be the best thing for the Sox. Bradley contributes defensively, making his struggles at the plate a little more tolerable. If the goal is to win a World Series this year, is Devers with his offensive struggles and defensive limitations really the best option at third for the rest of thr season?
