    I actually expect him to be somewhat cheap compared to other free agent pitchers, because of the health issue. And by "somewehat cheap", I'm referring to the total money and the number of years, since to me as a fan, years are more important that the cash. Last off-season, DL mainstays Michael Pineda and Drew Smyly both signed 2 year $10mill deals even though both were expected to miss all of 2018. Eovaldi is probably looking at a lot more than $5mill per, but probably not looking at more than 2 or 3 years, because no one wants to go long term on him given his health history...

    Ir's not even just the arm strength but the insane accuracy. He could have been a pitcher...

    I've always liked Eovaldi, but the big issue is his health. He missed all of 2017 and has had a spotty record before that. I think he should convert to the bullpen, where he could be a deadly weapon. As a starter, he does have a tendency to go from unhittable to very hittable very quickly. He's good at the back end of a rotation where you can hope for 15-20 good starts over a season as long as you can live with 15-18 clunkers. But getting that many starts out of him in the first place is the issue. Of course, he is still only 28 and can get better...

    Are you talking about re-signing Eovaldi as a reliever or starter? I would agree he'd be an excellent reliever and the reduced workload might help his career. It's just a question of whether or not he prefers to be a starter and won't consider alternative roles..

    Or John Burkett, who was an outstanding bowler, probably a better bowler than pitcher. At one point, I remember reading he had 17 sanctioned perfect games (as a bowler, not a pitcher), and that was 15 years ago so he has probably added to that total since...

    I started defending Hanley's attitude when I read the story about him telling Yasiel Puig to not make the same mistakes he (Hanley) made. Certainly Hanley got a bad reputation in Florida/Miami, but that story does make it look like he grew up somewhat...

    Knock it off. I didn’t tell you what you were allowed to do. I tried to explain why merely labeling something as an “opinion” doesn’t mean it automatically becomes free from criticism or counter-theories. You know, like how someone posts a stat using WAR and out of reflex you immediately post how WAR isn’t perfect and is therefore useless and should never be mentioned gain in your presence, unless it is followed by the words “is not perfect and is therefore useless.”

    I think a lot of fans try to put way too much on all of this clubhouse stuff. People are people. Some are irritated by everything; some by nothing. But as fans we all try to make it very “cut and dry” and put every player into one of two camps. Everyone is either a leader or a cancer. But if you look around, it’s easy to see that the overwhelming majority of people fall into neither category...

    Also possible, although difficult since his agent is Boras. I just bring up this possibility because there has been interest in Machado in the past and DD might still have some. But he also might be less interested in a competitive bidding process. Although he did show us all he will get his man that way if need be (Price, for example)...
