  1. 31 pages dedicated to getting rid of the ninth spot hitter because he hasn't been hitting for 7 games?
  2. Trade him for what? Just to run him out of town? At least name a position you'd want to fill if you cant think of a player. The Sox turned down offers for Encarnacion and Puig for him over the winter.
  3. Melancon had two save chances in Boston. I don't think that qualifies him as a "failed closer." He had one season in Boston with some injuries and an overall awful year (possibly due to the injuries?) But he's not much for validating the argument...
  4. Is it hindsight if he does it and it works? I think it's a little silly to call out the manager for sitting players sometimes. Unlike us, Cora talks to these guys and knows how they feel each and every day. And we've all watched enough baseball to know giving a player a day off before an off day is very common as it gives him multiple days to heal up the bumps and bruises of day to day games. Sure Betts had to be used last night, but then it's not like Cora knew the game would go to extra innings. This team is 5-1 in all road games, and yet everyone seems to find reasons to question Cora largely based on him making decisions they wouldn't make. At what point does the big picture matter?
  5. 1. Not so sure Barnes' walks of Anderson and Bout were as intentional as you imply. 2. Throwing strikes right down the middle to Justin Bour is a very quick way to end the game, but not with the result we all wanted. 3. Cameron Maybin is the Marlins' best hitter? Hottest, maybe. But not their best or even close. 4. If not for one bad inning on opening day, would this thread even exist?
  6. So as of now, the Sox starting pitching has not given up more than 1 earned run in any game for 6 games in a row. That's absolutely insane...
  7. No mention of the Yankee Stadium nachos?
  8. Rather he sat Benintendi or Martinez? The guys who produced the Sox only run in the first nine?
  9. I'm sure thats happened before. Or are you saying you're positive he made this decision without talking to Betts? It looks like sitting Betts was the right move. If Cora sat Martinez or Benintendi, the Sox likely would have lost this game in nine...
  10. Hey crazy thought. Maybe Cora actually talked to Betts and Mookie thought he needed the day off. Managers do have the chance to do that. ..
  11. That's another possibility. Just a less likely one...
  12. Supplying data as support isn't the same as simply countering with opinions. Countering with observations and supporting logic is another matter. ..
  13. That's a very flawed counterargument. "It hasn't been proven so therefore it's bogus." It's not like traditional lineup construction has been proven. If Cora had been drawing lineups out of a hat, would the Sox be sco ring more, less or the same? While personally I do think lineups matter, I'm willing to bet the standard style lineup construction we all learned growing up isn't nearly as optimized as we think. The logic behind it appears very flawed in many cases...
  14. Yes. Swihart should be a much bigger addition than JD Martinez. ..
  15. Wow. It didn't take long at all to get to the " we're winning but not by enough" complaints. What happens if the changes don't work in the first game?
  16. "Golf is a good walk wasted" - Mark Twain
  17. You do realize that I agree wIth you and he is going to be in Boston. I never said he was opting out. In fact, I don't even think a market mis-read is likely at this point, given how everything played out this past off-season. Price 's agent is likely to advise him to stay even if he wins the Cy Young. No one is going to give him that amount of money at his age and with questions around his elbow. So, since we all know he isn't opting out to get a bigger and better deal, and his agent isn't going to advise it and cost his client tens of millions of dollars, what chances does that leave - as miniscule as they might be - that Price opts out? If you had to select the most likely reason Price exercises that clause, what do you think it would be?
  18. Hardly. Actually I like getting into the sabermetric arguments with people who pull some information out of nowhere and educate me on the subject. It is difficult to be likewise educated (although not impossible) by someone who belIeves their observations are the end all be all
  19. Again. Second best reliever one season ago. This year, only two innings pitched. Relax. He well get significantly better. He well NEVER be perfect. And I think for Some that might be the minimum expectation. ...
  20. Can you name one veteran backup catcher who was ever traded for a young AA power-hitting prospect? Guys like Leon typically via waiver claim. ..
  21. It's not "nonsense". It's just very unlikely. It is a true statement that the ONLY CHANCE he leaves Boston is of he wants to leave the city. The point here is that he certainly won't be doing it to get more money, since we all agree that is not going to happen period. The "whine and trade" scenario is provaly more likely to happen but less likely to work. Since no one will take that contract, and hopefully Dombrowski isn't stupid enough to pay him to pitch elsewhere. (And getting a good return is also not likely in this case. ) So does this lead to phantom DL stints like Sandoval got?
  22. What was so shaky about Smith yesterday? He faced 3 hitters. One hit, one k. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not shaky. ..
  23. So KC is going to swing a desperation trade for a catcher in order to compete, but in the process trade away their best starter?
  24. I expect Price to be here for 7 years. But part of me does really hope he bails after his year.
  25. It is amazing that it only took one inning this year to completely give up on the pitcher with the second lowest WHIP from the Sox bullpen last season...
