  1. Looks like DD might be planning on a Rule 5 pick...
  2. He is the best at what he does. But pointing fingers at other people who have simply created better evaluation techniques should be beneath him...
  3. So if Baines gets in for having 2,866 hits, does this open the door for Johnny Damon, Bill Buckner and Al Oliver?
  4. Unless there is an injury somewhere, there’s no room for Swihart on the roster. If Pedroia is on the 25 man roster, the four bench spots go to Leon, Pearce, Nunez and Holt. Now if Pedroia starts the year on the DL, maybe Swihart has a chance. So that bait is all but cut...
  5. One of the best control pitchers in MLB. If he took a minor league deal, I'm all for it. He might be looking at MLB offers however...
  6. Sometimes recovery isn’t 100%...
  7. That’s not cherry picking at all. It’s his last two seasons, not 2 of his last 3 or 4. His return to health, on the other hand, is pure speculation. In the case of Buchholz, what exactly is fully healthy?
  8. It’s a little counterintuitive to argue that he’s not dependable on one hand but that he will also get guaranteed money on the other. Buchholz provides no guarantees with regards to availability so I doubt any team provides a guarantee for money. He’s pitched 105 IP combined in the last two seasons, both of which ended in injury. No GM is giving him guaranteed money...
  9. It wouldn’t be incredibly surprising if Clay’s lengthy injury history prevented anyone from offering him a Major League deal.. But if someone does, so be it. I’d love to see the Sox bring him back on a minor league deal, but he will probably have his choice of those...
  10. I would think Cervelli is actually a pretty good difference maker. Vazquez is a weakness on offense and Leon is a black hole. All three are good defenders. It’s definitely an upgrade, but not a long term one..
  11. But that was also four years and a few injuries ago. Is he really still even that capable?
  12. Which is usually the opposite of how contracts are structured. If you backload it, a team can afford better players around the free agent before he starts losing it...
  13. Fangraphs has it as 15.5/15.5/15.5/15.5...
  14. Melancon made $15.5mill last year, which is also his AAV. If Eovaldi became a closer, he would be the third highest paid closer in MLB despite having 0 career saves. Only Wade Davis and Chapman make more...
  15. The Sox probably need OF depth with minor league options. Per soxprospects.com, Sam Travis is slated to play LF this year, meaning he might be some depth. They also might sign a minor league deal to someone like JB Shuck or Matt Szczur or Rajai Davis or ?
  16. You don’t think the “one year” part of the QO was a factor? Also neither Chapman nor Jansen make $20mill per year. I’m fact, neither make $17.9 per year. Eovaldi’s deal is more per year than Jansen ($16mill) and just lower than Chapman and Wade Davis....
  17. Awww ... it’s no longer the competitive spending free-for-all that he can take advantage of. And to be blunt, if anyone ruined free agency for the players, it wasn’t the stat geeks; it was Boras...
  18. I like to think so, but I’m not sure how much he has. The only thing for certain is that he has to go. He won’t make the 25 man roster unless the right people get injured...
  19. And Swihart...
  20. Travis, Hernandez, Walden. All could be DFAd at some point this off-season...
  21. Plenty and I’ve named a few. But I predict Dombrowski makes an attempt to acquire Felipe Vasquez from the Pirates. Can he pull it off? That’s another matter...
  22. I hope Dombrowski didn’t just hand Eovaldi that insane contract to make him a closer. If that was the case, why not just sign a closer? If the Sox are going to use any starter as a closer, it might wind up being Sale. Depends on the condition of his arm, of course. But the White Sox used him a closer before. In fact , in 2012 around the All Star break, sSale was having arm trounles and the Whie Sox immediately announced he was closing. (He pitched one non-save relief appearance and told them he felt fine and resumed starting. But if Sale is having arm troubles, should the Sox durable him directly into free agency? Or try him in the reduced role?
  23. So... worse pitchers?
  24. Allen isn’t anyone’s first choice, but that doesn’t make him a bad choice. DD has been trading for closers and closing types (Tyler Thornburg, Carson Smith) from smaller market teams since he arrived in Boston. I wouldn’t be surprised if that trend were to continue
  25. Okthink about this. Allen is #71 overall but #7 in the San Diego system. That means the Padres have nearly 1 of every 10 of the best 70 prospects in baseball. That’s crazy...
