  1. Both 04 and 18 went 11-3 in the postseason. The only losses for the 04 team came to set up the greatest comeback ever. Also the 04 had the lead after every single inning in the World Series except the 5th (or 6th?) inning of game 1, when the game was tied. The only reason that series was ever in doubt was those of us still fearing 1986...
  2. About 19 hours by car....
  3. And the Sox won’t get him for that even if they offer it. He’s not accepting. This is his payday, and probably his final one...
  4. Kimbrel, Kelly, and possibly Hanley. (“Possibly” referring to eligibility, not likelihood. He’s ot getting one.) I suspect Kimbrel is the only player getting one...
  5. You have to pay me to eat a taco from Taco Bell...
  6. Kimbrel and Kelly and actually I think Hanley might be (although it doesn’t really matter if he is or isn’t). Kimbrel definitely is. I’d be surprised if Kelly got one...
  7. Bogaerts has one year left and isn’t extending this year. While unlikely, he makes some sense to be the first one to move...
  8. The in-division trade makes sense for the Marlins. Weaken Atlanta’s future while simultaneously strengthening your own. But they’ll probably insist on Acuna and screw the whole thing up...
  9. No idea. I think Pearce will return with a contract similar to Moreland’s. I think only one of Eovaldi and Kimbrel comes back. I lean towards Eovaldi but I think DD might not. There are reasons to consider either one over the other...
  10. As for Realmuto, Houston. Book it. They have the farm and did not exercise their option on Brian McCann...
  11. More than once https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/maaske01.shtml
  12. I expect minimal movement, which makes for ANOTHER slow and boring off-season. If the Sox can’t re-sign Eovaldi and/or Kimbrel, it could get interesting. But if he can, what’s the biggest question? Is it about offering arbitration to Smith and Thornburg? If he re-signs Kimbrel, Pearce And Eovaldi, the biggest offseason moves might be DFAing Phillips and Renda...
  13. They always say that...
  14. Didn’t one player schedule surgery eithin48 hours of that statement? Really, the dispensation of medical status isn’t always Dombrowski’s to give. I’m sure he’s allowed to say somethings, but at some point HIPPA comes into play...
  15. They do have some bullpen depth, but I’m not all that convinced on quality yet. The pitchers on the 40-man who constitute that depth include Poyner, Scott, Walden and Cuevas. The only one I like there is Poyner...
  16. You can make a living on the corners. Jamie Moyer did that for 60 years and did so with mediocre stuff...
  17. Meaningful is one thing. But we will see a bunch of MLB debuts next year, and I would anticipate Sharwyn, Lakins and Hernandez to each make theirs. I doubt Feltman makes his in 2019. Can we let him pitch in AA before anointing him heir apparent to Kimbrel? On the position player side, Chavis and Ockimey should both be on the 40 man roster, but I think one (or both) gets traded and the other isn’t up until September, barring catastrophic injury problems...
  18. Yesterday’s chat on MLBTR suggested a possible trade of Michael Chavis to Texas for Jean Leclerc, which moderator Jason Martinez liked. Of course, this was an MLBTR chat and we have no idea if Boston is talking to Texas or how each team actually feels about the players involved. Martinez did indicate that Boston might have to add another prospect if Texas is aiming to sell high here...
  19. So “ Wait till next year!” can be replaced by “Wait till 4 years from now!!” ?
  20. That might not be all of the criteria for being GOAT. If it is, I’m in the running here...
  21. And Orel Hershiser in 1988 when he almost single-handedly defeated the Bash Brothers. Or was it the Steroid Siblings? Or were they the ones who went by “We Are P-E-D”? Anyway, Hershiser was about as dominant as any player ever...
  22. Sorta the point. Let’s wait until Cora gets a larger body of work...
  23. And for kicking puppies!!
  24. Exactly. Saying Cora is the greatest Sox manager of all time is like saying Roger Maris is the greatest home run hitter in American League history...
  25. Exactly. After his first year, it certainly looked like Price would opt out. One year later, we all knew there was no chance...
