  1. For the record, Buchholz did not make $13.5mill last year. He did make that much in 2017 in Philadelphia as part of the final option year of his contract originally signed in Boston. But last year he joined Arizona on a minor league deal. And as he was injured, might be willing (or have no choice but) to settle for another...
  2. If you prefer Brian Johnson over Buchholz, then you are prioritizing pace of play over winning...
  3. His history with injuries is enough that GMs will avoid guaranteed money. And last year clinched that
  4. Dunno. That’s a question for DD. It’s possible the $60mill/4year guesses (for Eovaldi) were way off base...
  5. He didn’t get an Major League deal last year. He’s older now with one more injury in his history. Sign him DD!! Just to a minor league deal!!
  6. Buchholz would be an excellent minor league depth signing, like he was last year for Arizona. He just shouldn’t be counted on for a full season. But for short stretches, he’s a good solution, better than Johnson or Velasquez...
  7. I’ve been saying this amount (but not years) for 3 weeks. It’s the market price...
  8. Good thing signing Pearce. I was hoping signing Eovaldi/Kimbrel/whoever wouldn’t prevent it...
  9. I think you massively overestimate the earning potential of 35yo career bench players...
  10. Well, one year of Donaldson and then 6 years of Dalbec...
  11. Like a one year $15mill offer with a $1mill player option for an AAV of $8mill? Is that still allowed under the new CBA?
  12. Ryu accepted his Qualifying Offer and isn’t available. If the Sox drop down a tier (presumably after spending on a closer), do they look at guys like Anibal Sanchez or Lance Lynn?
  13. Didn’t the Sox sign Uehara after trading for two experienced closers in Hanrahan and Bailey?
  14. Technically, MLBTR mentioned him as a non-tender candidate. That he wasn't let go when Carson Smith was shows DD has some faith in him, although we will see when arb offers go out. By no means is he a lock for closer, but until a better name enters the picture, he is definitely in the running. I mean, I bet I can find people who want to hand the role to Ryan Brasier...
  15. If he gets healthy like he was in Milwaukee, why not? Of course I have no way of knowing if he ever will be, but DD certainly does. And he did acquire Thornburg for a reason.
  16. Agreed. He’s bringing in a closer. There are plenty of experienced closers in free agency and he has certainly shown he isn’t adverse to trades. But one way or another, the Sox will start spring training with an experienced closer. I say this knowing full well that experienced closer might be Tyler Thornburg...
  17. Despite that I will probably name 50 or 60 players I think the Sox could use and afford, I fully expect that when DD makes his actual moves, they will be ones I didn’t anticipate...
  18. He’s ok and a little more important now that Wright is questionable. But finding pitchers who can pitch like Johnson isn’t the most difficult task. And finding one with an option left would be better...
  19. I’d be surprised if anything was done about 2b. If the Sox stick to any luxury tax limits, I think the only bat added at all might be a RHH 1b to compliment Moreland. It might be Pearce or another FA ( Reynolds? Valencia?) or acquired via trade (Cron?). Although this actually would be a good year to get a 2b, given the options on the free agent market. Dozier, LeMahieu, Lowrie, Murphy, Gonzalez, Cabrera, Forsythe, Walker....
  20. There is that annoying trend of wanting your child to have a unique name. Want your son to have a name no one else his age has? Well, try naming him Mike. Or David. Or James. Those names are readily available now...
  21. I think his most valuable ability is pitching for minimum wage...
  22. And by the way, we all know in real life that woman would not be grinning and instead thinking “Not again. I’m switching his Viagra pills with Ambien.”
  23. I told my daughter Cialis is a drug that makes you do stupid things like lug two small full bathtubs to the top of a mountain. I don’t consider that a lie...
  24. The SK Wyverns of KBO signed former Astros farmhand Brock Dyckxhoorn
