  1. I don’t see any of these guys as viable middle infielders. Chavis will be a interesting cas, since he should see MLB this year. Dalbec isn’t so likely. But Chavis’ glove and footwork per the limited reports on him may got limit him to 1b or corner OF (or DH). Of these positions, only 1b (and possibly DH) opens up after this season. If Pedroia doesn’t come back, Chavis might get some action at 2b, but I don’t have high hopes for him sticking there. I’d actually rather see the more athletic Swihart get the chance over him. But if you look in the Sox minor leagues, 2b is not a strong position. Brett Netzer is the closest option? Most of the 2b in the Sox system (Lin, Renda, Rivera, De La Guerra) seem more like players with a ceiling of utility infielder...
  2. The Getting the RP we need now might negate needing one later...
  3. Pedroia is signed for a few more years yet, so I would think if they plan to keep Chavis, they will probably want to find a place for him before then. Now with Moreland and Pearce both free agents after 2019, 1b will be open either for Chavis or Devers with Chavis taking 3rd...
  4. The really important thing it all got wrapped up in an expedient and timely fashion with several hours to go before it’s March....
  5. It’s a tough call. People have been trying to run the guy out of town all off-season...
  6. So should we chase Pedroia out of town with torches and pitchforks or just take him to the vet and have him put to sleep?
  7. As long as he’s off them now...
  8. Yes. 1st in MLB. They had a parade for that, right?
  9. Chavis will get called up this year - book it. But not to be some right-handed bench bat or to play 2b two times a week. They’ll call him when they need him...
  10. Not to mention Dave Robertson and Juan Nicasio to the bullpen...
  11. It’s not like the Sox bullpen was so great last year. It ranked 9th in MLB and 6th the AL with 4.9 fWAR...
  12. It’s interesting how much faith you have in Rays’m pitchers returning from injury as opposed to Sox pitchers...
  13. That number includes the starts by Johnson, Velasquez, Pomeranz, etc. that actually totaled about 1/4 of the Sox games. While we all expect some starts from the depth starters, do you still think it’s going to be around 25% again?
  14. If Pedroia doesn’t work out, the Sox do have a depth issue at 2b. Holt and Nunez were obviously not enough last year or the Sox wouldn’t have acquired Kinsler. No they no longer have Quiroz as well, leaving Tony Renda as next man up. Certainly they could acquire someone in July, but that’s a ways out. They passed on my recommendation of signing Logan Forsythe to a minor league deal, and he accepted one with Texas. Brad Miller, Jose Reyes, and Brandon Phillips remain on the market. At the deadline, very likely Starlin Castro, Neil Walker and Josh Harrison are available. Hopefully that’s not necessary...
  15. They do seem to have a worse lineup than last year, and for all the talk about the Sox losing Kimbrel and Kelly, who did the Guardians replace Allen and Miller with? Their saving grace is a weak division with 3 rebuilding teams. But hey, sometimes rebuilding happens quicker than anticipated. (Are the White Sox a postseason dark horse?)
  16. I think most baseball experts and people will agree the top four teams in the AL, barring disastrous injuries, are the Sox, Yankees, Guardians, and Astros. After that, there remains the second Wild Card to round out the playoffs. The early favorites are Tampa, Oakland, Minnesota, and Los Angeles of Anaheim. But it’s worth pointing out in the last two years, both Oakland and Minnesota took the second wild card pretty much out of nowhere. So what are the thoughts on this year for the second wild card? One of the four prime suspects listed above? Or is there another good candidate for that spot? Also, this is MLB. The four front runners are not guaranteed anything, as postseason turnover is paramount. With that in mind, which of Boston, NY, Houston or Cleveland is most susceptible to missing the playoffs? Thoughts?
  17. Sorry. It was HGH. http://www.espn.com/mlb/news/story?id=3156305
  18. As a hitter, I like Chavis better. Not sure where he plays. Dalbec has power but should be trade bait, unless other teams are discouraged by the amount of miss in his swing...
  19. 16 career IP not enough of a sample size for you?
  20. Some. https://www.google.com/amp/amp.usatoday.com/story/3002546002
  21. Whether or not the Mitchell Report is a sham is irrelevant in a discussion about Pettitte using steroids. Since Pettitte ADMITTED USING and all. The goalposts were fine where they were...
  22. Based on what? We know Yankee trainers were already shooting up their players at the same time...
  23. Especially with Chavis still trying to figure out where dark comes from...
  24. Pace of play suggestions: 1) Foul ball = automatic out. Plus the hitter has to reimburse MLB for the cost of the ball. 2) Batter hit by pitch = batter is out. This should really move things along 3) Manager changes pitcher mid-inning - First batter up credited with a home run and 4) Manager/coach visits mound - hitter is credited with a home run. That should cut down on those time wasters. 5) Pitchers uses two baseballs and is required to pitch the second while the catcher is throwing back the first. 6) Hitter steps out of batters box - Hitter is out and suspended for two games. And is required to get divorced. That should work.
  25. Do you not see the difference? Petite was named in the Mitchell Report and confessed (to using one time. Suuuure it was just once.) Papi’s name surfaced as part of a leaked list of names that failed an anonymous survey test and the leaked list actually contained more names than the reported number of failures. (Hint: that makes its credibility questionable.) Major difference. There is no more evidence that Papi used than there is that Mariano Rivera used...
