  1. Per MLBTR the Mets are listening. The Sox are out. If his price is similar to what the White Sox got for Sale, it would require 2 Top 30 MLB prospects. As the Red Sox have none, any deal would involve Devers and probably Benintendi. Hard pass. Thankfully the Yankees dealt Sheffield for James Paxton. S combination of Sheffield and Andujar probably would have done it...
  2. I hope you might see the humor in a player injuring himself allegedly playing a video game and then parlaying that into a Comeback Player of the Year award...
  3. Which they could do again if the acquired Andujar. Or they could flip Andujar, whose appeal would not be limited to high-spending teams, for a player or players that fit other specific needs. You know, if only they could get around those tortuous MLB rules about trading newly acquired players. ( Oh wait. Those don’t exist.) Any trade of Kluber will involve getting back the best players possible regardless of position. But if they wanted Andujar - and they probably did. - they would probably just do exactly what they did before when they acquired Donaldson..
  4. Yes having Eovaldi close should in theory reduce his chances of injury. But if MLBTR projections are correct, the difference between him and Kimbrel is only $2.5mill per season. Is using Eovaldi as a closer instead of Kimbrel, inarguably among the best in the game in that role right now, worth saving $2.5mill? Of course, the real money (and years) both are paid is still undetermined. But at what point is it the better move to just bring back Kimbrel over trying Eovaldi?
  5. But if MLBTR projections are close, what is the advantage of signing Eovaldi to close over Kimbrel?
  6. Then why did they trade for Josh Donaldson last year?
  7. That might have been the case. Probably why you moved on to Paxton. Although 3 years of Kluber at his current AAV might have been worth Andujar...
  8. Remember the late 1990’s when Yankees’ fans bragged any season that didn’t end with a trophy was a wastefd season. And now we have this. How much farther can the trash talk fall?
  9. Kluber would have been a better move, but maybe the Guardians didn’t want Sheffield. Or they wanted a ton more on top of him. I have to think Cashman asked about Kluber before going out to get Paxton...
  10. Absolutely. Everyone remembers the champions. Last place is only remembered by people looking to gloat...
  11. He was also voted Fortnight Player of the Year...
  12. If the Sox don’t sign Eovaldi I predict they bring back Kimbrel...
  13. Robertson has closing experience too. Neither are bad options, but Britton hasn’t pitched much in the past two seasons...
  14. They could slide Gleyber Torres to shortstop and sign a 2b like LeMahieu or Lowrie or Asdrubal Cabrera or Marwin Gonzalez. Or go see Jeter and get Starlin Castro back...
  15. There seems to be a trend among Canadian pitchers that they have a significant history of arm troubles. I’ve read one important factor might be the shortened baseball season they experience growing up...
  16. Apparently he was. The lack of a name, the prominence of Brewer in this thread, and the similarity in IP lead to the confusion....
  17. Who I are you talking about? Colten Brewer? He’s not 22; he’s 26. And he did pitch 337 IP in the minors but he walked 109 batters, not 33...

    CJ Cron

The Rays DFAd CJ Cron yesterday rather than pay his expected arbitration salary of $5.2mill. Cron played 140 games last year with 560 plate appearances and hit 30 home runs with an OPS+ of 123. He was valued at 2.0 bWAR and 2.1 fWAR. Ok I heard the Rays might have money to spend this off-season. But they can’t spend $5mill on a 30 HR hitter? Do they think they can get one cheaper?
  19. Reportedly multiple teams that are interested in Eovaldi want him as a closer. He has said he’s open to the idea but prefers to start, which is probably exactly what his agent told him to say. Frankly any team that wants him as a closer is being stupid. His predicted contracts all have him making starter money which is more than any of the closers already on the market, and there are lots of them. If a team is willing to pay Eovaldi $15mill to close, for just a bit more you can probably get Kimbrel. And for a lot less, you can get Robertson. Or Familia or Miller or Allen or Ramos or any of the other closers already available...
  20. For the second time, HE’S NOT NINETEEN. He turns 27 in February and has not been 19 since 2011. So we do all know how he’s going to develop...
  21. I meant, maybe Dombrowski wants the option to make a pick in the Rule 5 draft. I’d be surprised if he actually made a pick, but he needs an open roster spot to even be eligible. I also think someone like Eovaldi fills that spot soon enough...
  22. Maybe Dombrowski wanted to leave one spot open so he has the option to make a pick...
  23. Soxprospects.com also has 39. The removals of Austin Maddox and William Cuevas brought them down to 33 and with 6 additions today back to 39. So one spot open and no Ockimey?
  24. Zero chance they save a spot for Felton to start the season. The guy has only pitched in A-ball and they are in no rush to see if he is Craig Hansen2.0...
  25. No one knows. The Sox are run by a guy who once DFAd a relief pitcher who had been drafted 2 years earlier so he could keep a 29yo career minor leaguer outfielder. He might DFA Pedroia for all we know..
