  1. The Sox certainly don’t have as many injuries as the Yankees, but all of ours play the same position...
  2. Me either. I looked him up
  3. His OPS for the season is .871 His OPS when batting 2nd is .583 His OPS when batting 4th is .885 His OPS when batting 5th is .944 Worth pointing out he has only 12 PA batting 2nd and only 13 batting 4th...
  4. Bleich has only recorded one out in his MLB career, coming via strikeout. This means he currently has a perfect 27.00 K/9...
  5. But it wasn’t really a blowout game until after Ramirez pitched...
  6. I would suspect a primary reason for the light loads in Spring Training was heavily influenced by the extra activity in the postseason. Extra IP in October are likely a big factor in why so few teams repeat any more...
  7. Well, we have 5 starting pitchers all performing below their normal levels and some at career-worst levels. This means one of two things 1) Massive level of coincidence. 2) Something was done differently.
  8. Agreed. A moratorium on all Fire Sale talk until May 31. Agreed? (Open to new suggestions of a reasonable date.)
  9. Although they are apparently bringing Walden back up. Not sure what Dombrowski saw in Ramirez that 3IP just completely vanquished...
  10. But you don’t need to send anyone down to activate Lin. Moving Pedroia to the IL creates the necessary opportunity...
  11. Well 12 walks in 11IP for one of the best control starting pitchers in the AL, for one...
  12. It’s a bit premature, but so far: Porcello - no QO? Yes. Hernandez as his replacement. I agree with this halfway. I have my doubts about him (or any rookie) suddenly trying to pitch 180 IP at the major league level. But I could see him and Shawaryn combining for the rotation spot. Johnson? I’m barely behind the decision to keep him this year.
  13. I’ve always said spring training games serve two purposes. 1) Get loose and get ready. 2) Not get injured. They’re like the stretching a runner does before a marathon. Certainly no one monitors the stretching a runner does to determine if he can win, but it gets him ready and helps avoid injury. The Sox accomplished to second part, but not so much on the first...
  14. That spring training games are meaningless was in response to people saying the Sox need to “turn it on and start winning”. There is a big difference between “meaningless” and “useless” or “pointless”...
  15. And Keuchel? Like I said, two open spots...
  16. He’s on a minor league deal. His MLB minimum wage can’t be that prohibitive, can it? He has a better track record than a few pitchers the Sox are keeping and further depleted their depth. Not sure what Josh Taylor and Brian Johnson bring to the table that Erasmo Ramirez doesn’t....
  17. But sometimes pitching against those guys with high uni numbers, you face hitters with worse strike zone judgment...
  18. Why would they need to DFA Ramirez? Lin is on the 40 man roster already and the injury to Pedroia creates an opening on the active roster. Not to mention, even with the addition of Ramirez and Leon, the Sox still have 2 open 40 man roster spots...
  19. Or it’s a preparedness issue...
  20. The really unusual thing about Porcello is the walks. In the past 2 seasons, he’s pitched 203 and 191 IP and walked 48 batters in each season. This year in 11IP, he’s already walked 12!! And the thing is, those seasons with 48 walks were bad by his standards. That he’s already walked a quarter of that total in maybe 5% of his normal IP is a definite red flag this season...
  21. The 60 day IL isn’t necessary. Chavis is already on the 40 man roster and the Sox have 2 open spots on it still.
  22. Never wanted Moreland, but I’d welcome him back...
  23. J Immaterial. The question involved $230mill, which is an approximation of the upper limit where the Sox are now minus Pedroia’s AAV. If Henry is going to squeeze the budget, then it was unwise to extend Sale and Bogaerts ...
  24. I rarely take the word of sports media when it comes to health speculation...
  25. This 100% also depends on whether or not Pedroia thinks he’s done. I really doubt he has any “quit” in him. And really, how much of a difference should it make? If Pedroia remains, is it that much of a task for Dombrowski to build a team with $230mill? I’d hardly call it a handicap. Plenty of teams have smaller budgets and also have deadweight contracts...
