  1. They made moves that didn’t work out. Thats going to happen. At least the Sale trade 1) wasn’t solely about money and 2) made an attempt to get back talent. We’ve seen free agents not work out before. Thankfully Giolito has struggled on a very short contract. Ditto Buehler. Both deals end soon and the Sox move on. Neither will force extreme measures like David Price’s contract did when it went south. And the Sox aren’t packaging cheap talent to entice teams to gamble on Story or Yoshida, either. While some moves have failed, the Sale debacle was at lest the type of move you want to see, right?
  2. If it was only about the money, the Sox would have traded him to Texas and given up the entire contract. There is a good chance you’re (deliberately?) overstating Atlanta’s interest. They did insist Boston include money if Boston wanted anything of potential value in return. If they were, as you say, VERY interested, that feels like a demand that could jeopardize the deal. I mean, Boston had a 35yo oft-injured pitcher who had posted less fWAR over the previous 5 seasons than Martin Pérez. They traded him clearly not solely to move the money, but also tried to get something of value back. Would you prefer management that just unloaded contracts without trying to get back players and saved more money? Do you prefer management that clings to non-performing veteran talent and keeps their salaries on the books so as not to pave the way for other players? It really seems like you do…
  3. Who was this Cy Young winner?
  4. The Sox clearly gave up the season already. This is not up for debate. It looked fun for a while when Toro was hitting. But now Toro has a .556 OPS since June 9th and he’s still starting. And so is Hamilton, who has not had an OPS as high as .625 at any point this season. Get Campbell back. You’re not fooling anyone at this point…
  5. Errors serve a purpose - they exist to explain a runner on base or a runner taking an extra base. That’s why you never get one charged if at least one out was recorded. It’s not good defense to boot a grounder and only get one out when you could easily get two, but errors/fielding percentage says it is…
  6. And for the record NOBODY has said errors don’t matter. Whats been said is errors (and fielding percentage) are a bad way to evaluate a player’s defensive skills. That’s not even remotely the same…
  7. Last night the Sox scored 5 runs. The Angels scored 4 on bases loaded walks and HBPs…
  8. I’m not real sure what the debate is. The sell off has clearly already started. It’s like we’re on the Titanic post iceberg, and people are still debating whether or not to get in the life boats…
  9. Vaughn Grissom for Hoskins? Per BTV, it’s an overpay….
  10. Almost all lottery tickets aren’t worth the dollar you paid for them..
  11. I think you kissed my crude, childish reference. Probably says good things about you…
  12. Crochet is the Sox number one and Buehler is pure number two…
  13. I thought it was interesting that Story favorably compared Mayer at 3b to his former teammate and Gold Glove hoarder Nolan Arenado. Does he really think Mayer is that good? Or was he planting a seed about keeping Mayer at third as opposed to taking Trevor’s job?
  14. That “upgraded defense” features backup players everywhere but shortstop at times. It’s not the real defense. At least when Mayer plays third, it’s a little better. But they still seem to have at least 2 of Romy, Toro and Hamilton on the field at all times…
  15. The big problem with errors is there some guy’s opinion, and the rebuttal is always “but most errors are obvious.” Of course that never takes into account plays that should be errors but are not scored as such. This Saturday I went to Wrigley for a Cubs-Mariners game. I saw defensive whiz Pete Crow-Armstrong misplay two towering flyballs that both landed within a couple feet of him. I saw Ian Happ stop charging a third pop up and let it fall just feet in front of him. All three easily makable plays were scored as hits, as though they were unplayable. I saw Vidal Brujan one-hop a throw to first that Michael Busch avoided, scoring an E-5 on what should have been an E-3. It’s simply a bad stat. The Sox have made far too many errors, but their other metrics bear out their weak defense as well…
  16. But they’re the first triumvirate of teammates aged 22 and under to homer in the same season since 1974! And yes, you should easily name the last trio to accomplish that feat…
  17. Are the top 100 really expected to be impact players? It seems unrealistic that there are a full 100 future impact players every year, even taking into account some players appear for multiple seasons. If you go back and look at any BA list from far enough in the past, you probably see 50-60 players on that list that ended up as bench players, non-closing relievers, and players who simply never made MLB beyond a September call up,,,
  18. I’d prefer the other way, but your points are valid…
  19. While at one point, I envisioned a trade involving Story and Sean Murphy, the simple reality is Atlanta is far, far more likely to make a deal with Arizona for either Jordan Lawlor or Blaze Alexander…
  20. Let’s be fair - the Braves missed the playoffs despite Sale doing everything possible to get them there…
  21. The most irksome part is he decuded to leap into Victim Mode rather than help cover for an injured teammate. I can’t look at that at anything but remarkably selfish…
  22. It looks more like Devers forcing the issue. This wasn’t for stupid reasons like dealing Betts was…
  23. Do you mean you like Breslow more than you like Cora? Or that you like Breslow more than Cora does? Or both? Not like they’re mutually exclusive…
