  1. The Sox aren’t going to reset, whether it’s the smart move or not. I’d be surprised if Bradley was tendered a contract. As for trading a big deal, I’d be surprised if Betts was dealt. More likely he shifts to center. Again, while trading Mookie might be the smart move, I’d be surprised if it happened. I’d like to move Price, but I think I’d be disappointed with anything they got back...
  2. It depends on the deal. Would you trade Betts for a package headlined by Conforto? Or two elite pitching prospects like Ian Anderson and Kyle Wright from Atlanta? Or to LA for Julio Urias and Joc Peterson and another?
  3. He’s given little reason to date. But if he can finish strong he might change some minds and either be successful here or as trade bait...
  4. But that doesn’t mean Hernandez will be better. Lots of flamethrowers flame out, either due to control problems or injury. Johnson isn’t anything spectacular and I have little to no faith in him, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get a shot. What do the Sox have to lose at this point?
  5. Or ... call it one bad year. It happens. Keep Barnes but get better relievers to accompany him in the bullpen...
  6. I’m all for this in the right deal. It’s a question of finding the right deal. The problem with trading Betts is dealing a player of his caliber rarely returns anything close to equal. The only deal I can think of that comes close was the Guardians trading Bartolo Colon to Montreal for a package that included Grady Sizemore and Brandon Phillips. And I’m not sure I’d call Colon, even back then, an equal of Betts...
  7. Velasquez really doesn’t count. He was signed as a 28yo free agent out of the Mexican League. If anything, he’s a success story. Despite his unpopularity, Clay Buchholz was a successful starter drafted since Lester. And while the jury is still out, it’s a bit early to say 22yo Michael Kopech is a bust. And the Sox have been really good at trading away pitchers who become good relievers for other teams, like Ty Buttrey and Shaun Anderson.
  8. But had Sanchez come to Boston, you would have called him a “ham and egger”...
  9. I seriously doubt Henry said NO MAS to waiver claims for players making the MLB minimum. If he did do that, your “lame duck” theory got 2020 is either incorrect or another wasted season. Certainly the directive can’t be “Fix this team or you’re fired!! And no spending money, not even on minimum wage players!” Just fire Dombrowski if this is the case...
  10. He’s certainly our best hope because of the GM who doesn’t gamble on waiver claims and asks for controllable starting pitching for Blake Swihart...
  11. It’s ok for fans to think it would be a cakewalk. The problem is it looks like the Sox management and players did, as well...
  12. I say see what he is. He might be able to take a spot in the rotation. Or he might be a reasonable trade chip. Right now he’s teetering between mop up arm in the pen and minor league free agency. That might be his limit, and that’s ok if it is. But find out...
  13. JD Martinez was a victim of stats vs paycheck. In his first 4 seasons (ages 31-34) in Boston, he hit .270/.377/.476 and was hated by many. At the same ages, Dwight Evans hit .266/.372/.477 and was loved by everyone. You’ll never find 2 major leaguers who put up closer slash lines and played the same position for the same team at the same ages, let alone were received so differently...
  14. Retire? He’s 29! And got better every year from 2015 through 2018. But he took one step back, so he has to go? Betts took a step back this year, too. Should he retire?
  15. Also I know that it’s against DD’s religion to make waiver claims, but Zack Godley is a better pitcher than anyone on the Sox farm...
  16. Give him a legitimate shot. I think he can get 7 or 8 starts and maybe 40 to 60 IP...
  17. Don’t stretch out Hernandez. He needs to master control and command. Stretching him out will just increase his walks...
  18. The following players need to play every day: Marco Hernandez, Sam Travis Brian Johnson needs to join the rotation. Might as well see if there’s a future in any of them...
  19. I suppose once I posted this, it became inevitable...
  20. Ever seen a game with such a potent pair of fifth spot hitters? Sam Travis vs Cheslor Cuthbert?
  21. Let’s go there and either beat this team or enhance that draft position!!!
  22. So Springer played through injuries and crushed the Sox, it was detrimental because he was on cortisone or something. But NO RED SOX PLAYERS were playing while getting treatment. That’s his position...
  23. No, time will NEVER prove that, because you will never know “what if?” DD stopped investing in this team last November. How many players to play for Boston this year were added to this organization between the World Series and the Andrew Cashner Trade? Sadly, I can only name three...
