  1. Whatever criteria they use. Dombrowski has said Swihart can compete for a starting catcher job. Presumably this means he can do something to win it...
  2. Except for the sweeping generalization one...
  3. Yes this was evident after watching his fastball velocity decline from 94.4 mph in 2017 all the way down to 94.7 mph in 2018. Or were you referring to his velocity at the end of the season? Those 4 games? https://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.aspx?playerid=10603&position=P&pitchgraphs=true&statArr=&legend=1&split=base&time=daily&start=2016&end=2018&rtype=mult&gt1=15&dStatArray=FA&ymin=&ymax= Really on the last outing was a “decline.” The other 3 looked like his April numbers...
  4. Exactly. I don’t recall anyone ever saying Mariano Rivera or Trevor Hoffman or Kimbrel were volatile or crapshoots. It’s not that relievers are inconsistent pitchers, but it is true that many inconsistent pitchers become relievers...
  5. You got me there. All Fenway has is those silly recent championships banners...
  6. The Sox will also likely use Mike Sharwyn and Darwinzon Hernandez this year at some point...
  7. Under rocks? In fantasyland where they ride pinstriped unicorns?
  8. So Brett Lawrie, out of baseball sonce 2016, signed a contract before Harper and Machado. How many more names will come of of the recycle bin before these two actually sign somewhere?
  9. But if he played baseball he’d remember where his wealth came from ...
  10. F Only options? Did Erasmo Ramirez quit baseball this week? And Ryan Weber, too?
  11. You’re showing your age. But that means he can always fall back on this with your understanding
  12. Oh the Sox will use both and several others. But that doesn’t mean Johnson would be a big loss. And that he would be in the rotation for Miami or Baltimore doesn’t make him a good pitcher who will help the Sox. In fact, his lack of options is equally likely to hurt the Sox, since he could easily take relief appearances from a better pitcher based on nothing more than having an option...
  13. Biggest myth in MLB...
  14. Beyond 2019 might be pointless for us to discuss. But it absolutely is a factor Dombrowski has to consider if he is signing Kimbrel. Also I’m not so sure how taking that the Sox will be dumping a contract at that deadline as being a seller is such a questionable interpretation. That’s exactly what sellers do at the deadline...
  15. That depends on how many of Betts, Bogaerts, Martinez and Sale the Sox want to keep. Plus extending Benintendi and filling gaps for departed players...
  16. That theory also makes it more difficult to keep Betts. I think that is part of the dilemma Dombrowski has with signing Kimbrel’...
  17. He might get claimed, but it doesn’t look like anyone wants to trade for him. What might enable him to pass through waivers is that he is out of options. In order to keep him, a team would have to release someone from the 25 man roster, and if the claiming team questions his catching ability, releasing the BUC might not be the best idea. But if he does get claimed, I’m not so sure it’s a huge loss. That goes for Johnson, too...
  18. So the Sox will be buyers - likely looking for bullpen help. And they will have Kimbrel and try to move him? That might make Kimbrel the best reliever on the market, which means no matter who the Sox acquire, trading Kimbrel weakens the bullpen...
  19. I believe only the name is changing...
  20. For contenders. Think the Sox will be buying or selling mid-2020?
  21. Why is he so tradable after 2019 when teams are not exactly lining up to get him now without giving up prospects?
  22. Actually the only person apparently worried about the Sox budget is David Dombrowski. A few posters here have acknowledged he is worried about it, which is not the same thing...
  23. Just raise the beer price by 25 cents - BOOM!! Covered that tax...
  24. I believe so. And the biggest benefit is we get to call the phantom injured list by the friendly moniker of “Phil”...
  25. The Diabled List??!? That’s so 2018. Got to get with the times. https://www.google.com/amp/www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25947020/major-league-baseball-rename-disabled-list-injured-list%3fplatform=amp
