  1. But you don’t even know if Beltre was cheating. If he tested positive for an allowed substance like androstenedione, does it change your opinion? So you condemn Beltre, who may have done nothing wrong, but praise Nettles, a known bat corker?
  2. Y You can also find the viewpoint of Dan Clark using a simple Google search, but that doesn’t make it credible...
  3. In the NFL, signing bunches of free agents from the same team is often a big part of a rivalry. It seems like every Raider to hit free agency went to the Chiefs and vice versa. And in the Parcell years, the Patriots kept loading up on ex-Jets and the Jets kept grabbing ex-Patriots. Otis Smith went back and forth between the two teams like 4 times. It’s somewhat surprising you don’t see more of that between the Sox and Yankees...
  4. The least surprising one to me is Mientkiewicz, since he was a high school friend of A-Rod...
  5. Now I do consider Tony Fossas a traitor. Also, Spike Owen...
  6. I was trying to think of the most obscure former Yankee to come to the Red Sox. There are undoubtedly lesser players than Mecir who did it, but the impact on the joke stayed the same. Although Mecir was such a quiet addition the Red Sox, I didn’t even know they had him until he was selected in an expansion draft...
  7. I grabbed Barnes in a mixed league and Mejia (to fill an NA slot) in an AL ONLY league, which means Brasier is probably the closer...
  8. So you’re not bothered by his presence on the same failed drug test list as Ortiz? Or is your condemnation of failed drug tests limited to Red Sox players?
  9. Honestly, do you think Henry and Dombrowski are going to avoid a 40% penalty on $2.4mill? They get more than that back by making the postseason (I think)...
  10. No. If the Sox had used outright waivers, his salary would not be guaranteed (if the waivers are before opening day)...
  11. That’s because his acquisition announcement was probably buried in a 300 page thread...
  12. They were probably livid over Jim Mecir...
  13. Erasmo Ramirez!
  14. If you want to look for any cause, Ortiz’ production spike was probably related to league expansion in 2003. Whenever new teams get added, it dilutes MLB pitching and some hitters do a better job taking advantage. It’s probably no coincidence that Roger Maris hit nearly one quarter of his career home runs in an expansion year. Or that George Foster - remember him? He was like what? 5’10 150 lbs - managed to crush 52 home runs in an expansion year despite hitting only 79 HRs in the previous 8 seasons combined...
  15. So you’re saying that your “proof” rests on his numbers spiking AFTER he failed a drug test and AFTER MLB implemented drug testing? And if he failed for something illegal, wouldn’t he be tested more frequently than other random players? Shouldn’t he have been a better hitter before the testing if he was using? Or is your argument that he started using specifically for the drug test? Your argument rests on him using before the testing, but improving after the testing. A better theory chronologically is that his production spiked because he was no longer facing juiced-up pitchers. But even that is not all that likely. A spike in production is not proof of steroid use. If it is, then Babe Ruth and Roger Maris were clear steroid users...
  16. This is the year for Alex Scherff and Nick Decker to break out in the minors...
  17. I blame Dombrowski. If he gave us better topics to talk about this off-season than Colten Brewer and Blake Swihart vs Sandy Leon, there would be less need to engage the trolls...
  18. I’ve made numerous new threads and will make more. There have been some complaints, but some of these threads have gone on for several pages as well. And if the topic is specific enough, they can focus on one specific discussion. At least until they diverge, which they often do. But such is life on message boards. Frankly, I don’t see the big deal in making new threads. And while some view is BDC veterans as the outsiders, it’s not like they’re not participating in new threads. If the discussion is interesting enough, people will join and either or drift the messages into a more interesting and fun topic. The fact that I started s multiple page thread on Matt Tuiasosopo certainly proves this...
  19. It’s not too often players in Sale’s position-one year from free agency-sign an extension...
  20. Is “He Who Constantly Refers To John Henry as Prune Face” acceptable? It does feel a tad cumbersome...
  21. Clemens gave several stories, which is how we all knew he was lying. He even thought st one point Piazza threw the bat at him intentionally. Personally I think Piaza owed him a bat throw to the head...
  22. Yes. We were on Drew at the time. Drew was more the victim of a new system. Kimbrel overvalued himself...
  23. Not if the biggest need is a catcher....
  24. That “similar pitcher” has been worth 17 fewer WAR in 2 fewer seasons...
  25. Unless a team has a contract they prefer to move in order to get Leon...
